The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG) published a new Qualified Listing yesterday for a “Samsung Bluetooth Hearing Aid,” from member company “Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.” The listing was first reported by Android Headlines who also reported that Samsung “applied for the Earcle trademark in South Korea and included references to hearing aids in this product documentation.” Read more

With January rapidly approaching, the countdown to the International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES) for 2016 is on. With each CES conference comes another round of CES Innovation Awards in categories like Wearable Technologies, Headphones, and Tech for a Better World. “Best of Innovation Awards Honorees” were announced earlier this week, and while no hearing loss tech was awarded the coveted “Best of” designation, there were plenty of interesting Honorees. Knowing what I do for a living, my neighbor Jack contacted me to ask for help. He had been seen by a local audiologist and had some questions. As we sat at my kitchen table, I looked over his audiogram. The handout from his audiologist showed a table of four models of one brand of hearing aid with the prices of each model listed along the bottom of the page. In small print, the table listed 28 possible features, all of them related to hearing aid circuitry. As the price of the hearing aid increased, more features were listed as available. Read more

After Tinnitracks recent win at the 2015 SXSW Accelerator, there was quite a bit of hype about their tinnitus-treating smartphone app. US-based tinnitus-sufferers were understandably excited by the news. Tinnitracks sounds like the real deal – the app is a registered medical product in Germany – and the software is based on years of neurophysiology and neuroacoustics research. We’d love to see some placebo-controlled studies on the app itself, but at this stage we can only *hope* their implementation works. Read more
