I rent mine now. There is only one place in Wisconsin that rents BTE’s and I think it’s the best way to go. I get new ones every three years which is about the lifespan of hearing aids. Free batteries, and cleaning every 6 months too. I lost my hearing when I was 34 due to barotrauma and have spent over $25,000 in hearing aids over my lifetime. I am 60. I do use the medical deduction too.

A Bill to allow a $500 federal tax credit every 5 years for the purchase a hearing aid was introduced and referred to a congressional committee on January 29, 2015. It is called the “Hearing Aid Assistance Tax
Credit Act” – S. 315. According to GovTrack, the prognosis is 0% chance of being enacted, so it is vital to advocate support from your Representative and Senators. You can read the proposed bill at

Sadly, there seems to have been no action on this bill.
