About the KS 8.0

The Kirkland Signature (KS) 8.0 hearing aids were released in early February, 2018. The hearing aids, like the previous generation KS 7.0 hearing aids, are Rexton brand hearing aids manufactured by Sivantos, the same company that produces Signia hearing aids. The new KS 8.0 hearing aids are $100 less than the previous generation, with a price tag of 1,599.99, inclusive of service and warranty.

There are a number of differences between the KS 7.0 and KS 8.0 hearing aids. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide our typical detailed feature descriptions for the KS line, as documentation detailing the functionality of each feature is hard to come by.  Please refer to the technical data sheets on each product page to form a comparison. Many have compared the new KS 8.0 hearing aids to the Rexton Emerald 80 8c and Signia Nx 312 7Nx products.

KS 8.0 Reviews

Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome ... Continue reading

Sounds are very natural. Directional speakers. Great phone app.  Bluetooth can be temperamental.  Small size. Easy to operate. No malfunctions in over a year. I would buy them again. I do wish they had direct streaming with Android.

Just looking for some feedback from others.  I have had these for just over one year.  I was a little miffed because the 9 model came out about a month later.  I have had them adjust numerous times but still have a difficult time hearing people NEXT to me.  I use this example all the time - when I'm in a restaurant I can hear a server take an order 5 tables away but can't understand him when he's at my table.  I keep adjusting the setting with no luck.  It's too soon to replace them - I really want the 9 - any tips?

This is my 2nd set of kirkland hearing aids in 6 years. The sound quality is great when they work. However, they cut out at certain frequencies, usually connected with a click or banging noise. (Our dining room light switch would turn my left one off 8 times out of ten.) When they cut out the volume is dramatically reduced. If you turn them off for 10 minutes or so, they will reset and the volume will come back, but it is really annoying when this happens. I've owned the current set for 11 months. I took them back for repair at 4 months and they seemed to work better for a while. I took them back again at 10 months and they replaced them. In the last week the same problem has resurfaced with the left one, suggesting this is a design flaw.

When I first got them I didn't know what to expect!! I heard many people get hearing aids and stop wearing them! It took a short while to get use to them and now I can't do without them!!!!! They make the quality of life so much better!!!! People that I talk to do not have to repeat things 3 times before I answer them. My wife is very happy she doesn't have to recite the Honey-do list over and over. I don't really know if that is a plus!!!!!

Water Proof! Probably not. However, I did swim in them for 35 minutes, opened them up, gave them a shake to try to remove the water, dried them out for two days in a sealed container of 3 cups uncooked rice, and they both work. Unbelievable! I am a triathlete and accidentally wore them under two swim caps during an aggressive practice swim. Figured I ruined them. Lucky I guess.

This is my fourth set of hearing aids. My first set cost me $10,000 (NOT at Costco). This set (Kirkland Digital Hearing Instrument 8.0) is absolutely wonderful. The bluetooth feature with my IPhone is miraculous. The clarity of speech in all instances is amazing. And, there is no feeling that this is merely an amplifier. It is truly an amazing piece of technology. I do not work at Costco .. I do not know anyone who does .. I just want to clarify that my outstanding review is truly based on this very fine product.

Best deal for what I could afford. Only had them for a month and I’ve noticed that I’m hardly asking people to repeat what they said. Only problem so far is the streaming of phone calls and music. There seems to be noticeable static on some sections of music. Also there’s not enough volume for phone calls if there is a lot of background noise. Listening to music on the stereo (not streaming) I realized that I couldn’t hear cymbals or the snare drum sounds. Have a severe loss at 4K and using hearing aids helps to hear these sounds again.

First hearing aids and have had for 1 1/2 years. Use every day usually all day. Has made a clear and beneficial change to my life. Small complaints. For example, while listening to my iPhone I frequently lose one channel (randomly seems it could be either one). This is easily solved by opening both and then closing, I.e. turning them off & back on. Also the Automatic function isn’t real effective. I almost always have my iPhone with me and make easy adjustments. I am nearly totally satisfied and highly recommend. When total cost is added to the calculation the decision is an absolutely a no brainer.

Maybe I don't understand the "automatic" mode. Isn't it supposed to adjust to your current environment and you use the custom modes for more extreme situations? In my case when on "automatic" they don't seem to adjust AT ALL when I move to different environments.

The Kirkland 8.0s seem more robust than my previous Resounds -- maybe a thicker plastic case? I especially like the "rocker" type button that allows me to increase or decrease volume easily and the excellent compatibility with my iPhone. What I dislike the most is the unnatural, highly compressed sound (like an MP3 recorded at an extremely low bit rate). I don't notice it except in quiet environments (music sounds pretty good) or when I turn up the volume, which is the other disappointment: turning up the volume during a meeting when I'm struggling to hear the "low-talkers" doesn't seem to make the sound louder, it just seems to make it more highly compressed.

I have had this hearing aid since January 7, 2018. When I tried it in the store it was wonderful when Inpurchased it no application at all. Took 2 weeks to get a follow up appointment reprogrammed and it functioned for 2 weeks. Took another 2 weeks to get an appointment functioned for 10 days after that appointment. This time it took 3 weeks for an appointment to reprogram and the programming dropped 27 hours after walking out of COSTCO. So my $1600 hearing has functioned for 4 weeks out of 13!!! What a disappointment I really cannot believe Costco is selling this garbage.

I am 34 these are my first purchased hearing aids tried multiple brands prior to buying. I love my Kirkland 8.0 HA, I can hear my children, music, birds, and all the small things I didn’t even know I was missing! I was so nervous about getting HA at my age, but no one even knows about them due to the size bing so small and the color matching my hair except the people I tell because I’m so excited that I’m not missing out on the world—I didn’t have a clue how much I was missing. I cried for two days every time I heard a new sound from my children.

Going very well. I have had them for 3 weeks. This is my 2nd set of hearing aids from Costco. First set were Bernafon, which were okay. The KS 8.0 are head and shoulders above them. I am hearing sounds I didn't hear with the Bernafons. They do an excellent job. They are much better in highs. How can I tell? I'm hearing squeaks in the floors of my home as I walk, hearing birds much better. Wind noise is greatly reduced, I can ride in my car with the windows down and enjoy. I also play tuba in a brass band, and that is where I notice the biggest difference. I had to turn the Bernafons all the way down because they overloaded and distorted sounds. I don't have to touch the 8.0s, they adjust themselves. I am hearing myself much better as well as the rest of the band. Oh, I also got the T coils, so these are actually 8.0T. Haven't had a chance to use them yet, but looking forward to that. Battery life is excellent 8-9 days so far.

I have been using Resound for the past 7 years. With the price I could not afford them. I bought the KS 8.0 and been using them for 6 hours and its great so far. Easy to use, the bluethoot capability is great. The peice was just perfect for my budget. I have severe hearing loss and I can hear everything with this aids.

These are excellent, EXCEPT that I hear a static clicking when I use Bluetooth with my phone. I saw from one of the members here that the Tile key-finder devices may be the culprit. I am disconnecting my Tile devices today and I'll try to report back when I know if there's a difference.

I have been wearing these KS8.0 HA's for just over 2 weeks. They are my first hearing aids and I waited too long for this fitting. My left ear loss is 90 dB at high frequencies. The right is less severe. I was fitted with M receivers in both ears. I initially heard some distortion in the left HA, while the right one was good from the start. After 2 weeks the left HA has significantly improved, which really means that my ear/brain is now working better. I'm sure the HA has not changed. The only change after the first fitting was to increase the vented click sleeve from small to medium. It stays in place better now. The Automatic program works well for most situations. The Noise/Party program works very well in a noisy restaurant. The outdoor/traffic program does help some with wind noise, but does not eliminate it 100%. I use the recorded music program and the sound quality is good up to about 80 dB input. With my home stereo system I still hear lots of bass, but highs drop off above 5 kHz in my left and above 8 kHz in my right. The i360 program works well in the car, but the Auto program is essentially just as good. I have one program set up for the XPhone feature. It does provide more amplification and it is fine for voice. The phone side mic does pick up more noise and send it to the other side, so overall noise is at a higher level too. I do use the Connexx Smart Direct app is very good, and virtually identical to the Signia myControl app.(https://www.signia-pro.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/74/2017/12/How-to-myControl-app2-final-1.1.pdf). The nicest feature with an iPhone is the made for iPhone iOS built in app. It lets you automatically stream phone calls from your iPhone to the HA's (both ears), as well as music from the phone in stereo. The My Voice feature also seems to work very well in making your voice sound normal. Overall these hearing aids seem to provide really good value, and are at the premium level for quality and features. I can recommend them providing your hearing loss fits their capability.

Still in the first week, I've been back to Costco once after the initial fitting. Still have a major difficulty hearing in restaurants and atmospheres with background music playing. Haven't given up by no means though. Costco hearing agents are very interested in tuning them, problem lies with getting scheduled to see them. Ours in NC are 10 to 15 days out. a little frustrating..............

I have some odd sounds, especially on the right side. It seems to be related to some sudden high-pitched sound, which results in a buzz or chirp in the hearing aid.

A little better than I expected. My biggest problem is when I am watching TV with the family and I have the volume up louder than they would like if I do not have my hearing aids in place. I am home with just me and the dogs most of the waking hours but there a couple of TV series that I watch with the family and if I remember to put my aids in before we watch the TV in the evenings we have no problems.

much cheaper than a lot of places, but you get what you pay for. Going back to my Starkey hearing aids, service was much better there and they took the time to explain everything to me. These felt more like ear plugs and everything sounded so unnatural and tinny. Every time I would tell that to the technician he would tell me "I just need to get use to it"

I had the same problem with the current Resound model being sold at Costco.  Tinniness!  I returned them and bought Phonak instead.  I find the sound of the Phonak Brio 3 to be much more natural for MY hearing and to my liking.  However, I am having a problem with the Phonak auto switching to the much louder music program.

I have been wearing a hearing aid in my right ear for over 20 years. I have a severe loss and need the moulded insert. My left ear had a mastoid operation done and is not suitable for hearing aids as the large mastoid cavity must be left unblocked. This is my 6th hearing aid and this new Kirkland 8.0 is the best by a country mile and the price was an absolute bargain. I have had Beltone, Phonak and Bernafon in the past . I am sure those brands have improved and I named them in the order I liked them. The Beltone was useless, I completely wasted 1600.00 . The other two were decent with the Bernafon lasting 7 years, I had it rebuilt at 5 years old, then got another two years before it died. I have no medical plan and have to buy my aids so I decided to go with the Kirkland as another Bernafon was 1600 and this Kirkland was 1100. I have an iPhone and the Blue tooth is incredible, so nice to turn up the volume, turn off the aid and have calls come directly to my hearing aid. I also have the Kirkland app that allows me to set the treble and bass. I wish I could wear two aids to have the fantastic feature of dialing in the direction of your sound but with only one aid, that feature does not work. Overall the sound quality of this Kirkland is outstanding. I just love it. I also got a 5 year warranty because I used my Costco MasterCard to buy it.

I have been wearing these Kirkland Sig Series 8.0's for the past two weeks after having worn Starkey CIC HA's since 2015. These Kirkland (Rexton) Sig Series 8.0 are a HUGE improvement over my very expensive, custom molded Starkey's. The iPhone MFI certification/integration to the Kirkland's is simply phenomenal. My Starkey's cost $7,800 from a local audiologist in 2015... I hated them in noisy environments like restaurants, they would just amplify everything and it was so difficult to separate the conversations at my table from the background environmental noise (even despite multiple reprogramming by audiologist). The Kirkland's handle such an environment very, very well. The sound quality is so much more natural and the handling/prioritizing of speech versus background noise is incredible. Wind noise was always intolerable on the Starkey's, not an issue at all with the Kirkland's as they significantly minimize the amplification of unwanted wind noise. The steaming of audio (music, phone calls, audio from video content watched on iPhone) is simply fantastic. I have zero issues controlling whether my Car Bluetooth or the HA's should be handling the steaming when I'm in the car (I can choose to prioritize either at will). I have to say that the hearing test administered by Costco as well as the post-exam fitting/programming appointment was far more comprehensive than what I received from my audiologist when I was sold my Starkey CIC's 4 years ago. Contrasting my experience with Costco versus my former audiologist simply dispels the adage "you get what you pay for".... in my case I got far superior testing, programming, fitting and overall HA performance than I did from the services and hardware dispensed by my former audiologist, at more than 4X the cost of Costco. At $1,600 out-the-door, purchasing superior hearing aids from Costco is simply a no-brainer. I'm told that Miracle Ear sells the same Rexton branded version of the Kirkland Sig Series 8.0 for over $7K. For those of you on the fence, run, run, run to Costco and don't look back. You'll be glad you did.

I wore these HAs for 6 months then returned them, as I decided that the modest improvement (hearing high frequency/low volume voices, in both quiet and noisy environments, with my mild/moderate hearing loss) did not justify the cost and daily care/maintenance. After 4 months since returning them, I am again experiencing enough difficulty (hearing my wife, other people with low voices, TV female dialogue) that I am ready to have another hearing test and try a new pair. I believe that my hearing loss level does not justify expensive aids (over $2k), so likely to try Kirkland Signature 9s, when they are released in February? Any improvements would be great, and TV blue tooth streaming without the need of an interface adapter would be a plus. While I very much liked my Costco HA specialist (Naples FL), in retrospect I felt I got a bit of a sales job ("even if the improvement is modest, think of them as preventive maintenance for your brain's processing of high frequencies"), based on the assessment of another Costco HA specialist in Boston. o I would really like to get an independent audiogram and bring it to Costco. That may require an appointment with an ENT, as local audiologists seem to all be connected to HA retailers. Stay tuned for an update on my ongoing experience.

Been using for 9 months. Vast improvement over more costly and much older brand. I have a high frequency loss only. I can keep them fairly loud and feedback is quickly, but not completely, suppressed. With my previous instruments, I would often be an outsider in a restaurant situation because I could not understand enough of what was said to actively participate. With the KS8, I can follow along "enough" to be part of the group. The different programs don't seem to make much of a difference and I suspect they can be adjusted but I don't think the technicians can bring their equipment into a restaurant for on the spot adjustments. Very hard to tell if the changes made in the booth will have any impact in the real world.

I'm not sure how to make them work with my cell phone or TV. I have them paired with my phone but do not know how to get them to accept phone calls on my Samsung S4 android phone. I can not find any video on YouTube explaining what to do after they are paired. I do not have any of the optional piece of equipment they say to use on the videos on Youtube that you wear around your neck. My hearing aids do not require this option.

Phone calls and music streaming do not work with Android devices unless you get the adapter.  Google is working on getting a protocol working for this but it is not yet available.

My rating is based upon 1 week with the KS8 hearing aids. These are my first ones though I tried Phonak Lyric hearing aids for a couple weeks . I found that the Lyric were horrible. Normal noises were loud and sharp. My KS8 may be programmed for a 1st time user and currently seem too soft. App and buttons do not really seem to make a difference in volume. I notice no difference with the programs currently installed or the directional portion of the app. Need to be improved.

I would think about going the extra bucks and go with the Resound- I had them lost one and was suggested to go with the Costco brand- My major complaint is the tinny feed back - some days no matter what I do i cant get rid of it. Needless to say to have a constant tinny noise is very irritating and uncomfortable- Very low battery life 3 to 4 days - Resound lasts a week or more.

I teach high school and could not do my job without hearing aids. I bought my first pair of hearing aids in 2014. They were name brand and very expensive. They did the job but that was all. They lasted a little over 2 years. The Kirkland Signature 8.0 is far better (I love the Bluetooth for phone calls) and cost less than half the price. I had an audiogram from my last audiologist. I took it to Costco and they were able to program it quickly and I left with a pair of hearing aids that day. It was a little easier because I had already had hearing aids. I've had them for over 2 months now and I'm very pleased. I like how they are affordable. It seems like they come out with a newer version every 18 months or so and they lower the price by $100. The 8.0 cost me $1600 plus the cost of a Costco membership. I think when the 9.0 comes out, they will probably be $1500. Highly recommended.

I am with you $5600 Oticons in 2014 never again will I pay those prices. They should offer Lifetime Warranty and Free Adjustments at that price. Going with Costco Signature or their other Major Brands for no more than $2500.

Also purchased (and returned) a Widex from a hearing professional. The Widex was spot on first tuning. I have had 5 CostCo tunings so far and the response is still not right. I have been trying to get into CostCo Superior, CO but keep getting voice mail saying they are too busy. They did respond once but never again. I suggest you spend the extra for a professional, I wish I had.

My first pair of hearing aids. First discovery; yes, there are still birds in trees. After fifty years, I can still whistle (quite well). I had lost the ability to hear my own 'whistling". And more to come...…… My first post to this forum was 19 Oct 2018 so this will be four months later. As a first-time user, this has been a fascinating (and almost completely positive) experience. These devices do, in fact, do all they claim to do and then some. If there is a blatant weakness, it is the subjective nature with which the manufacturer describes the specific modes, features and functions. While this particular model can store six individually selectable 'programs', there are eleven or twelve available to choose from. Each is described in a general way (suggesting a particular advantage in a given situation) but the relationships and trade-offs between the programs are not defined. My experience has been that these differences can be extremely subtle up to wildly different with the triggers not easily understood. By trial and error, I believe that the non-automatic selections provide more CONSISTENT results, but not necessarily BETTER results. It appears that the entire repertoire of functions is imbedded by default, with the 'manual' programs providing additional enhancement. This would make perfect sense IF the actual contours of each function were more clearly defined. Things become chaotic in the automatic mode because the 'emphasis' among functions is shifted without notice (an automatic transmission with a mind of it's own) nor indication of 'which gear we are in'. Unfortunately, most of us do this shifting with our minds which will not always agree with the 'auto' algorithm. It should also be understood that the advanced functions of these devices far exceed the capabilities of 'normal' hearing and processing. For this reason, I believe the manufacturers have failed to take advantage of the most valuable aspect of the devices; training. There's a clear link between the devices as worn, our laptops (or tablets or phones, etc.) and the manufacturers. The potential to create an 'interactive' experience, it seems to me, would be ideal to allow us (users) to learn new hearing skills and how to 'drive' these exciting new devices.

That's a fair question. Perhaps it's just an initial impression. I'm a first-time HA user so likely view this experience very differently than a long-time user. As a long retired EE (design of laboratory instruments), I probably look at this in a narrow way. The easy part of HA technology is equalizing the frequency losses. That in itself was a huge improvement for me (and others), but the real quantum leap comes in the realization and use of the 'intelligent' weighting and software. I can see that this will take quite some getting used to as the effects are often subtle. It seems that there are equal parts of 'how you hear' AND 'how you think about' what you hear. Fifty shades of grey.

Excellent hearing aids. They work better (and are more reliable) than the previous ones that were five times more expensive.

I am a long time hearing aid user with severe loss. I previously had the Kirkland 5s. Those were pretty good, with a few annoyances. Before that I was analog, which was terrible. These Kirkland 8s are very very good for the price. The digital filters on these are excellent. I can understand people in very noisy environments where normally hearing people can't hear me. The filters will pick out the voice and dump the noise. I can often understand people without looking at them, which I haven't been able to do in years. I am really happy with the general performance. They are also nicely water resistant and the coated digital electronics hold up very well to humidity and sweat. No need to get pricey maintenance every year like the old days. Another great feature is the iphone MFI pairing. I can listen to music, watch movies or take a phone call right to the aids automatically. The sound is good and the aids mix real life voices into the audio stream, letting you listen to something without being cut off from your environment. This is awesome for things like listening to music at work. Battery life is still decent while using the streaming. Many of the hearing aid options are built right into the iphone settings. You can also download an app that has additional features. With the excellent background noise reduction and bluetooth connection, I surprised people with normal hearing haven't started buying these as headphones yet. It's that good. I'm sure we will see adoption in the future as prices continue to go down. Speaking of price, these currently cost the same as terrible analog hearing aids I used a dozen years ago, but they are an order of a magnitude better. Some notes: 1 Get the telecoil model for the larger battery. 2 If you have never worn aids or are coming from analog aids, you will need to get used to them. They will sound weird at first, just use the setup they gave you for a couple of weeks until it clicks in your brain. The lack of constant background noise is disconcerting at first. 3 One thing you might need to go back for is getting the correct wire length. This takes about five minutes to swap out. The receiver should point straight back in your ear. If the wire is too short, it will point the receiver at the bottom of your ear canal and slowly pull it out.

This is my 5Th set of hearing aids and by far the best. The fitting process was the most complete and detailed I have ever experienced bar none as was the hearing test. The initial set up was nearly spot on and better than anything I have experienced after many adjustments and fine tuning efforts with my previous aids. Factor in the costs of the aids into the purchase and I am blown away. Anyone in the market for hearing aids would be smart to check these aids and Costco out before purchasing anything. Saved me $3-5000.00 on a set and got me a more than comparable product to what I had been offered by traditional hearing aid vendors. 6 month free trial period,3 year warrenty as well as 2 year "free loss" replacement is frosting on the cake. Without a doubt the best value available at there.

I have been needing hearing aids for years, but the cost has been prohibitively high so kept putting it off. I was comparing hearing aid reviews recently and found that the Kirkland Signature 8.0 were the highest rated and the cost were very reasonable compared the to the $4000 +/- per ear cost. I have been wearing these hearing aids for a little over two week and the change in my hearing is incredible. I hear sounds that i do not remember hearing for about 50 years. I heard the rustle of paper and stopped with a bit of surprise on my ace and my wife noticed my surprise and asked what happened and when i told her we both laughed. I am still getting used to wearing them and hearing new sounds again. I do not have an other hearing aid to compare these with, but in my opinion, I cannot imagine any others being any better. I am very disappointed with my Signature 8 Premium hearing aids. The right hearing aid is nothing more than an ear plug most of the time. Also, the Bluetooth works only in my left ear, when it works at all, and the right hearing aid eats batteries like crazy! I’m glad Costco has a 90 day trial period because I’m returning them. If they need repair already, I don’t trust the company. Also, I was told the clicking and other Bluetooth problems (the cutting in and out, the drastic slowing down of speech to a “wowing” sound, and the static) were Rexton’s fault, not Apple’s, and that Rexton is “still working on a fix.” So I don’t know who to believe. I’ll try Bernafon next, although they’re $1000 more. Yuck!

I am very happy with my new hearing aids compared to my 5 year old Phonaks! It’s amazing how technology has advanced. The only problem so far is TV listening, I am going to order their Table top device to take care of it, otherwise I have the volume turned up a little to high for others. I am only into these new Costco units 6 weeks and they possibly can possibly re-adjust my volume a tad bit higher and then the TV issue could be resolved without an additional TV box.

Very happy except for a couple of bluetooth problems with my iPhone: 1. When streaming music to the hearing aids, music sometimes stutters and bass is weak. But since I consider the bluetooth music to be just a nice extra, this doesn't bother me. 2. Although my phone still connects to my car when I'm driving, and although I can still initiate a call using my car's display, I can't answer a call from the display when I'm wearing my hearing aids- the car acts like there's no call coming in; I have to look at my phone to see who's calling and to answer the call. I've played around with settings on my phone and the only way to fix this is to disconnect the hearing aids from my phone. It's probably a bug in the phone or car software and not the hearing aids fault, but it's still disappointing.

Have you solved the problem of not being able to answer calls from your car's blue tooth while having your phone on the hearing aid blue tooth ? I have the same issue with my Nissan Rogue.....must turn off the hearing aid blue tooth to answer calls through the car.

I don't often write reviews of items I purchased, even when not satisfied with the product. This time; however, I feel it is important for any prospective purchaser of the Kirkland (Costco) Signature Premium 8.0 hearing aids to have this information. By way of background, I am a 49 year old professional with an active lifestyle. I delayed purchasing a hearing aid for two years, but finally realized that I was missing too much in meetings and the like to put off getting them. I investigated many brands, went to at least two private hearing centers associated with ENT offices and tested a few different hearing aids out. I thought the Kirkland Premium 8's had the best balance of cost, performance and features available. My hearing aids are ONLY one month old and already I have had to return one of them to Costco for service. Despite purchasing a store item (they keep these in stock so they can sell you a pair of their own hearing aids as soon as your hearing test is done) when i brought my hearing aid for service because all I heard was loud static, they were unable to replace it right there. The Costco Bloomfield Hills, Michigan store informed me that they would have to send my right hearing aid back to the manufacturer (Reston) for repair and that it would take two weeks. And, despite my explaining to Costco Hearing Center personnel that I was leaving town in two days for a business trip (where I really need my hearing aids), they essentially told me that I was s-out of luck. I take very good care of my hearing aids, I clean them when needed and don't wear them when I'm working out. For the Costco Kirkland Signature Premium Hearing Aid 8.0 to FAIL after only one month is unacceptable. For Costco hearing center to tell me I was out-of-luck while I awaited the two weeks for it to be returned to the manufacturer for repair, when these are essentially off-the-shelf products ('programmed' at the hearing aid center) means I was a sucker to think that saving a few dollars would help me in the long run. I guess if you can afford to wait the two week (or more) turn around time for Costco to repair a product that is not damaged or misused by you, then Costco's Kirkland Signature Premium 8.0 Hearing Aids may still an acceptable solution for your hearing loss. However, if you are still working or require your hearing aids for communicating with the outside world I would strongly recommend that you pay the few extra dollars and purchase a different brand (NOT the Costco Kirkland Signature Premium Hearing Aid 8.0) and consider using a hearing aid provider who can provide a loaner or who has a shorter turn-around time with their manufacturers or distributors. Many private hearing centers can provide this service and I never thought that the Costco Kirkland Signature Premium Hearing Aids 8.0 would fail so miserably after just one and half months of service. PRO: low cost CON: Unreliable and defective hearing aids; Two-week (minimum) turn around time for repairs; No loaners or replacement even for something they acknowledge is defective and what is really a commodity-type product; No real diagnostics performed at the Costco hearing aid center to trouble shoot the hearing aids; Long wait times for appointments; Inconvenient hours of service at the Costco hearing aid center.

As an electronics Engineer, I see the devices from the technology point of view. There is a very high degree of complexity and programing in these devices that can cause issues. Also there are thing the user can do that can cause such issues with them realizing it. I have had mine for 1 month now, I have had a few issues and I have found some were caused by myself. for instance when I wear one of my prescription sunglasses, it causes issues with volume control of the left hearing aid. I remove the glasses and drop volume all the way down then raise it to the level I need and then replace my glasses. Turnaround time is a function of testing time & repair. NOT just hook them up, push a button, read diagnostics and repair. there is acoustic and RF links between the units that have to be reverified in many usage situations. This takes time. I am sorry about your timing issues. You went 2 years without them, please be patient. I think you will be very glad you did. Also, an audiologist tried to sell me a similar pair but wanted $6,875 dollars for the pair and I would have had to wait 1 month to receive them. Costco did much better for me! Please let me know how it goes!
Member
I had a similar issue, but my Costco gave me a loaner pair and is supposed to have mine back within a week.   It might be the location -- which unfortunately is not helpful when there aren't multiple of them.  It was frustrating to me that in less than 2 months I was having issues with them.

My previous hearing aids were 5 years old and it was time for an upgrade, when my dog ate them! My last pair cost $7,000.00 and my budget just could NOT handle that big a hit. But hearing aids are not a luxury, they are a necessity. I did not belong to Costco and they were two hours away from me. Sam's Club offers hearing aids, but they were $800. more that Costco's and $800.buy a lot of batteries. I made an appointment with Costco and made the drive. I could not be more impressed with Mr. Kelso and how he examined and tested my hearing. He was caring and compassionate and delinitely fined tuned them PERFECTLY! I walked out with them that very day. It wasn't until I'd gotten my new Kirkland Signatures, did I realize that I had not gone to the movies (which I love) for a long time, opting to stay at home and read closed captions because my hearing aids didn't work well enough for me. Quite frankly, if you can fall in love with a hearing aid, I have. My world is so much better. I love being able to adjust them to the environment from my cell phone! I no longer live in silence. My television is at a level that "normal" people hear television. I HEAR WHISPERS! Cannot say enough good things about Mr. Kelso and my Kirkland Signature 8.0 hearing aids. I tell EVERYONE!

I have resorted to reading closed caption only... many times not even bothering with the sound... or I only watch programs in which following dialogue is not necessary, AKA sports! These $6500 top of the line Starkeys have been very dissappointing. Just started a new job, in an office environment, and can't understand people on the phone if others are talking next to me. Time to give these aids up!

The hearing aids have allowed me to hear sounds I have not heard in 20 years. The audiologist said your brain will relearn to hear sounds. I have had them a month and can now hear crickets and referee whistles again. I was told it takes a month to really see a difference. I wear them during waking hours.

They do not fit in my mother's ears. They fit and seemed fine when she was first fitted with the. They were serviced shortly after that; maybe 46 months after. Ever since the servicing that have not fit in her ears. She has not received any resolution for this problem. They didn't have any problem selling them to her, but they don't want to help resolve the problem. They tell her that they don't fit her small ear canals. Then they never should've been sold to her. Very disappointed in Costco.

Ear canals can change shape over time, I had an ear infection and my ear canal got smaller so the bigger dome didn't work for me anymore. What I had to do was get custom made moulds for my ears, it cost a bit more but it was the only way it would fit in my ear. Both done for less than $100 and now I can use the hearing aids again

I have had my Kirkland Signature KS8 hearing aids for two weeks. I am very happy with them. They assist me to hear all that is going on around me. It is taking a little while to get used to the sound of my own voice, however, I am told that will correct itself in about 2 - 4 weeks. The only issue I have is that Rexton have made these for iPhone compatibility. As I am a long time Android user (Samsung Galaxy S9+) it is a little frustrating that the app does not do what it does if you own an iPhone. Rexton should correct this so that those with Android phones have the same functionality as those with iPhones. Afterall, we pay exactly the same amount for the hearing aids, but have to then turn around and buy accessories in order to have the increased functionality. Not good! However, on the positive side, as someone who has severe hearing loss as a result of two inner ear infections, I am very very pleased with the KS8s, they have changed my life very quickly. Peter!
Member
I understand the problem is not Rexton’s -Apple developed advanced technology contained in its iOS devices that simply is not available in android phones. Apple has a patent and apparently keeps the technology for its own devices.
Member
I have recently purchased Kirkland Signatures 8.0 and were able to be controlled via bluetooth to my Samsung Galaxy phone! The audiologist didn't think it would work, but he tried it and it did!
Member
Can you tell me how it was done? I'm going to buy the accessory that I have to carry around so that I can set it up to my Samsung. I would prefer to save my extra $243..Thanks
Member
Then Rexton should have developed appropriate technology that allows everyone using their hearing aids to have the same functionality. I am seriously thinking of upgrading to Phonac as they do have the technology to allow for Bluetooth streaming and phone calls to function with android phones. This is a very serious negative for the KS8 hearing aids.
Member
Phonak's Bluetooth with Android does not stream to both ears whereas if you purchase the Smart Mic with the KS8 you get streaming with Android devices both ears
Abram Bailey, AuD
This is true for the Phonak Audeo B Direct, but the Phonak Audeo M (Marvel) now has stereo streaming and hands free calling without an accessory required.
Member
You are absolutely right about the Android issue. After all there are more Android users than iPhones
Member
I would bet Apple is paying hearing aid manufactures to use their technology, By doing so Apple becomes the phone of choice and HA manufactures make more money on required accessories for compatibility with other phones. Most all recent phones use compatible Bluetooth hardware. The Bluetooth protocol is specified in IEEE 802.15

Apple has made a long-term concerted effort to assist people suffering from all kinds of disabilities - whether it's vision impairment, amputation, or whatever - not just hearing impairment. They are a for-profit company so I suspect they recognize there's a market for it. And, maybe, they're still driven by Steve Jobs' vision that the most successful business model is to make "insanely great" products that "change the world" for the better. I have a friend who is totally blind who relies on his iPhone because of the haptic and audio feedback and other special features developed especially for people like him. Not surprisingly, all his blind friends have iPhones too. In line with this, Apple developed a special low-power bluetooth for the purpose of connecting to various specialty devices including hearing aids that don't have room for batteries powerful enough to sustain standard bluetooth connections (also happens to work beautifully on the Watch). They made the protocol available for free to hearing aid manufacturers. There's nothing any hearing aid manufacturer can do to offer the same features for Android devices unless they use larger batteries or the Android device manufacturers and Google develop and implement similar low-power bluetooth connections. I hear that's finally happening. Your beef isn't with Apple, you should actually be thankful for Apple, because if it weren't for their investment the ability to stream music and phone calls to both hearing aids without an additional exterior booster might still be many years away. But, of course, any fact that interferes with the "Android-" (or "Apple-") religion is automatically rejected, so I don't expect the truth about the matter to matter to most people.

The reason they work better with iPhones is because iPhones are a better product than Androids. Better quality phone parts = better at working with other devices. Your best choice would be to switch to iPhone instead of Samsung and enjoy everything in life better. You don’t have to purchase the newest iPhone for your hearing aids to be adjusted easier. You can get a model about 4 years old and still work with the apple apps and your new hearing aids because apple upgrades their software as time goes on. Androids seem to take months to get a new revision of there operating systems.

Update 8-3-18. I updated to the iOS newest beta 12. With iOS 11 I had isolated but infrequent instances of pops and static when streaming from iPhone-these have completely disappeared. Also I found that when moving between iPhone and iPad for streaming make sure to disable Bluetooth on the device you are leaving and enable Bluetooth on the device you intend to stream from. If the hearing aids seems to not immediately reconnect, turn off Bluetooth for 5 seconds - turn back on and theyreconnect just fine. Make sure you went into both devices originally and set up the hearing aids in ios’ settings. The new iOS version 12 upgrade should be released to the geraral public in September 2018 I am using this app with Costco's Signature 8.0 hearing aids. I was blown away by my iTunes streaming music directly to my hearing aids directly from my iPhone 7+. The sound clarity and bass is hard to believe when you first hear it. You can even use iOS’ sound equalizer to output sound tuned to your particular preference. I can move back-and-forth between devices simply by disabling Bluetooth on the device I am leaving. The sound is not 100% perfect because sometimes I get crackling and pops in the hearing aids when streaming Music or podcasts– not frequently but often enough that I would like to find the cure. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern for when this occurs. I was using Google Maps the other day and was surprised to hear the GPS directions coming in over my hearing aids. It’s also nice to control music or podcast volume using the iPhone’s volume controls, and you can even use iOS to change the sound output balance when needed from center weighted to heavy in the left or right hearing aid. I am almost deaf in my right ear in certain tones and the ability to hear clearly is amazing. Last night I was hearing birds chirping in nearby trees which I’ve never heard before. I've had a little bit of problem losing mucic/iTunes connection with occasionally the L hearing aid - usually new batteries and reconnecting using Apple's settings fixed the problem. They work ubelievably well 99.9% of the time - only problems have occurred when streaming sound from the iphone or ipad - I suspect this is an iOS Bluetooth/MFi problem not a problem with the hearing aids. When the L channel music is out I still have good hearing aid function. I was walking the other day and notices as I came upon a mower that the L device automatically adjusted the volume level up to compensate and override the ambient noice -same thing happened walking into the wind - no wind noise but a slight increase in volume. Nice!

These are my first hearing aids, and have had them for about 2 months. I am generally pleased with them. They are extremely comfortable, and I don't even know I am wearing them. The one complaint that I have, and it's got nothing to do with the quality. It's the battery life. I am getting 5 days on average. I just wish the life was longer. Considering the batteries are about 19 cents at Costco, I guess that's not really bad at all.

My audiologist has said others have had problems with the Kirkland batteries. I have as well. Recently a friend gave me a different kind that her husband was no longer using due to newer hearing aids. It seems like they are a little stronger---as in I think I hear slightly better. Sound seems slightly louder. But I still need replacements as mine are 6 yrs old.

My audiologist advised me to remove the new battery tabs and let them sit out in the open for five minutes or so before putting them in the hearing aids - it really extends battery life. I also keep my hearing aids in a dehumidifier (sold by Costco), which also extends battery life.

I thought I did not need hearing aids. I felt I never had trouble hearing. Then I noticed I could not hear the TV as well as my wife and in some public presentations I could not make out what they were saying when others seemed to have no problem. I went for a test with the audiologist Alan Kawer and found very professional and complete diagnosis, answering all questions in and easy to understand and helpful manner. The hearing aids were ordered and installed with amazing results . I hear a lot of high frequency sounds have not heard for years , I now here the birds chirping and other beeps and have much less difficulty with hearing the TV. Very satisfied with the product, the process in getting outfitted and the cost of batteries. I am a very satisfied customer.

This is the third set of hearing aids I've gotten from COSTCO (health plan covering portions of them over the last 14 years) and the best ever. Love the BlueTooth capability and listening to recorded books from library. Receiving phone calls directly into the hearing aids is great. (only draw back is finding the phone where I left it in the house since it rings in the ear - - but does FLASH when a call comes in) Very comfortable - I even had them put in the larger ear cups so that I hear just about everything via the hearing aids verses the smaller cups that would do both live to ear and via the hearing aid. Staff are very conscientious, kind and caring. App on iPhone lets me adjust for environment changes - i.e. restaurant, movie, etc. ((though these are fairly "smart" and try to do that on their own.) No, you don't end up like glasses where you can sometimes get back to 20/20 for vision, but these are the best I've had. I'm a young 71 and hope to have these for quite a while

I am new to hearing aids and I felt as if they were just okay. Everyone else say they definetly help because I am not asking them to repeat themselves. So yes the are doing there job. I have only had one adjustment. I started realizing after talking to others HA wearers, that even HA's at $6000 are no better, in fact mine seem to do better overall than theirs. This is most true in noisy places and have far less reverb. T.V. is okay as is music but not great, maybe more fine tuning? Wind is not a problem at all unless it is strong from behind, I should not that I am bald. Road noise is very minimal, surprisingly. Comfort is outstanding, I often forget them when I jump in the shower or in bed. Battery life is five solid days 14 to 16 hours daily. 2 year free replacement for damage or loss, free adjustments and cleaning for life. Hard to beat for the price!

I've had these KS8s for about a week and a half. These are the third pair of HAs I've owned over the past 12 years, and they are a major improvement over my previous 6 year-old pair. These new aids are better in noisy environments, the installed programs allow me to tweak performance in unusual settings (although I find the Automatic program works pretty well) and I even "water tested" them by accidentally wearing them in the pool one day (NOT recommended, but they survived without damage - just needed new batteries). I've had two problems: one is that I can't figure out how to stream music from iPhone direct to hearing aids, and the second is I'm having trouble with music sound quality -- high notes sound shrill and sharp, not rich like low and mid range music. My Costco audiologist is an hour drive (each way) so I'm using the Base/Treble control in the Connexx App to get an acceptable sound. In general, I'm pleased with the Aids and I'm pleased with Costco's audiologist -- just wish the store was closer to home.

I started with Costco Ks 7.0 and they were OK at best. I switched to KS 8.0 and for me there is a world of difference. With the KS 7.0s I was always fiddling with volume, base/treble, and programs, with the KS 8.0 I turn them on and forget them. KS 7.0 would pick up road noise in the car and make it the dominant sound, no problem with KS 8.0. With KS 8.0 everything sounds better, my voice, my wife, TV, music, etc. The phone applications: Sound Exposure and Motion Sensor seem to crash frequently but I don't feel a need for them. I am running the app on a non approved Samsung J3 so I find no fault with the phone issues. Batter life is not great, about 4 days but that is fine with me. My hearing loss is just in certain ranges so open domes let me hear low sounds naturally and the missing ranges are filled in seamlessly. I wear the KS 8.0s 16 hours a day and completely forget I have them in.

I am not very happy with the Signature 7 getting a refund on those and will try the new 8 hope that works better for me,

I also have the Sig 7 hearing aids. Could you tell me why you don't like the 7 and are returning them? Thanks.

Hi,having problems with the programs settings,I have been back to Costco many times now,the T.V. is still sounding like people are talking underwater, the 360 program does not work well, still can't seem to tell where sounds are coming from,in others cars can't hear people talking if I am in the back seat and they are up front, can hear them only if they are turning around and talking to me, hope this help you,but everyone is different,it just they are not working out for me,I had the resounds before and did not have much problems as I am having with the 7,money is tight right now,so that is why I went to the 7 and now will try the 8 if that does not work I will have no choice, but to get the new Resounds,
Member
Mine sound like that, too- like they're underwater or like someone is talking into a fan. I was able to pin the problem down to the feedback protection which seems to operate like antilock brakes on a car- it quickly pulses the sound and a sensitive ear picks that up. I was able to use one of their programs called Music (for listening to music). That program has the feedback protection turned off and the problem goes away. Anyone reading this can recreate the problem by whistling a long tone. On the other hand, many people seem to be happy with them. I'm thinking about taking mine back. I'm a musician and it's driving me batty.
Member
I was experiencing the same effect. It sounds a bit like when you speak or sing into a fan. The problem is the feedback protection that seems to operate like antilock brakes on a car. Try the "Music" program. It has feedback protection turned off and that bubbly effect goes away.
Member
The problem is the feedback protection that is built into every program except the "Music" program. Try that one
Member
Thanks for the feedback. I can relate to the directional feature not working very well. Also have had issues with phone calls, sound breaks up somewhat . . . I'm able to understand conversations, just not a nice natural sounding voice.

Bought the 7.0, am very happy with the results, but want to try the 8.0, want less echo.

Has anyone figured out how to stream audio from Android phone to 8.0 hearing aids? I bought a smart connexx and it doesn't work with the 8.0s.
Professional Member
The Smart Mic is the correct accessory for streaming to Android or to be hands free with the iPhone.
Member
so you CAN stream music from your phone to the hearing aids using smart mic?
Member
you can stream music from iPhone to aids without any other device
Member
Yes. There is an iPhone app that you need to download. The series 6 was listed under kirkland. Android 9 is due out in the fall and should be hearing aid compatible Until then I use my Bose hearphones for music and tv. For 499 on Amazon they work well

Waiting for telecoil version
Leslie S
We are also waiting for the Telecoil version which, I believe, was supposed to have been available in mid-March. The 7s are returned, and we are looking forward to iPhone 6 connectivity on the 8s. Today is a second hearing exam. It would have been helpful to try the Resound LiNX 3D 9 and Zerena 9 in order to judge the sound of music. Programmed hearing aids for comparative purposes in different brands aren’t available at our Costco.

I purchased my Kirkland 7.0s in November of 2017. April 1, 2018 I decided to upgrade my phone and go from an Android device to an Iphone 8 plus; that's when I found out about the Kirkland 8.0s. I returned my 7.0s purchased the 8.0s for $100 less and walked out with much more natural sounding hearing aids. I have been very impressed with the sound difference. The great thing is the 180 day trial period, 3 yr warranty, and 2 yr replacement warranty started all over again.
Member
After four hours, I am disappointed. The sound from the aids is good. But the right aid clicks and clicks when connected to iPhone. So that’s not good. There is no mute for the microphone while the iPhone is playing music. Must have the volume on the mics to some degree. To switch to the tv transmitter, the IPhone app is necessary. Maybe there’s a button setting that can be made by the fitter, but so far the iPhone is necesssary to turn on/off the tv transmission. Most importantly, the remote mic is a huge disappointment. There is no audio input on the remote mic. The KS5 remote had a 3.5 audio input. This would allow use with audio sources other than iPhone. Anyway, so far the sound is better , bu the convenience stuff is lacking. And then there’s that clicking....
Member
On the iPhone app, if you are listening to music you can mute the microphones. Turn the slider all the way down. The iPhone app isn't needed to switch to the TV transmitter... If you switch to the TV program using the buttons on your hearing aids, it will link to the tv transmitter

I was tested yesterday and suggested to try them out in the store. They sound like I'm in a barrel but was told that will go away in time. I told them I would think about it. considering purchasing but still unsure. $1600 is a lot of money.
Ralph F
Not to be mean- but I would suggest checking reviews about various Costcos in your area in regards to the Hearing Specialists. Or even just visiting another one. My original guy was wonderful and a great man but either didn't have the training or understood all the programming advantages the digital have. Still he did me well. 4.5 years down the road with my KS4 I met a new gal in training along with another brother and I tell you they brought new life to my KS4. We started from scratch. But they did things the other brother Either didn't know about or was satisfied doing things his way. I was shocked! I always tell people though always go in and get adjusted often. If you don't like the settings you can revert or try something different. I don't care how much tech you cram into these things it will always take time to get it right for you. If you're in Utah the folks at the West Valley City Costco are awesome!! I've tested the KS8 about 3 times vs the Bernafons. I like the Bernafons in terms of how sound is processed and seems to do a much better job at regulating a balance of ambience and voice. KS8 is a huge improvement over my KS4 I'm getting it because it's a bit more hands on for me and cost. If I could however I'd be doing the Bernafons.

If you think @1,600 is a lot of money, go online or go to an audiologist. When he tells you$5,000 for a product that has too many bells and whistles, you will fly back to Costco and figure out a way to buy them. Costco is not the largest seller of hearing aides in the United States for no reason. Their audiologists are no paid on a commission basis and you will get what you need If not satisfied you can change to another one they carry or go back to an audiologists and give him $5,000 of your hard earned money for an equal or inferior product. The only people who do not like Costco are audiologists! I have been with Costco and have ZERO complaints. i am currently switching to the Kirkland Signature 8.0 which is made by Rexton and has blue tooth technology through my IPHone 6 that makes my hearing of phone calls amazing. Cant wait to have my best to order them!
Lisa M
I agree. I'm now on week 4 of KS8 -- first time wearer. I'm fortunate to have a Costco nearby (Charlotte NC), but I would consider traveling for this affordability, high quality product, and professional service. Regarding price -- Surprisingly, Costco's prices have actually gone down as technology has increased.

Replaced one side right after I bought them due to static noise. Two days later trouble with other side. Told them I was having trouble with both on first visit to adjust. Keep telling me to make an appointment again and again ( I’m an hour away) if you can get someone to answer the phone that is. I don’t think I need this hassle! Now it keeps dropping Bluetooth and battery showes good but hour later must change it. Junk

Great hearing aid but in noisy environment it’s terrible. Had adjustment done but now I having a hissing sound. This is my second haearing aids after returning the resounds. I’m new at wearing hearing aids. Should I try the Phonak Bio 3

try the noise program for noisy environment, try turning down the treble on the app to reduce the hissing sound

Bluetooth function on one side suddenly quit. App says it is turned off. Opened and closed doors on both sides, no change. Batteries are new and it worked earlier. What to do?

I had the same issue. My left device was not pairing. After much frustration, I took it back to Costco/hearing center to see if they could figure it out. On top of the constant warbling / Flutter when sound hit a certain tone.. They saw that the left wasn't pairing and that I was the first to comment about this issue. They are sending it in for repair. Try calling them and see if they can send it in.

Like the previous post, I am new to hearing aids and still getting used to a lot of things. That said, some of the promised functionality in the base Costco package I find very lacking. But first the positive. . My primary goal was relief from my chronic and worsening tinnitus. I was skeptical but I have now experienced a significant lessening of the screaming in my ears when my Kirkland series 8 hearingvaidsvarevin place. I know that because when I take them out it comes roaring back. It might be even louder than before I started wearing these a month ago, not sure. . They are clearly amplifying ranges of sound which I previously wasn’t hearing. However, I’m Not experiencing improved comprehension of voices or TV. Not discernibly. Perhaps my brain needs a little more time to learn how to process those new signals. . Costco‘s generous one time replacement of lost hearing aids. I didn’t make it through my second week without losing one of them. It was cheerfully replaced. . Costco’s generous 180 day return policy, which I may avail myself of later today in my follow up appt. . Costco‘s whole approach, with very knowledgeable non-commissioned technicians as my primary interface. I went to to conventional audiologists first which offered solutions roughly 3 times the price, and none gave me a hearing test anywhere near as thorough . The negatives: . Callers can’t hear me. And there is no adjustment in the app for volume of my voice. This a huge problem. Potential show stopper. . The ambient noise in my life seems to be too much for these hearing aids. They are virtually unusable in my vehicles, granted my vehicles are pretty noisy. But it’s a problem because I don’t want to be taking these out when I’m out and about. Already lost one of the two once. I’m now experimenting with over the ear, and yes, in the ear wired headphones/earbuds options to use in conjunction with these hearing aids. Believe or not, the earbuds that come with the iPhone 8 will hang in your ear outside of this hearing aid and work fine, although they fall out pretty easy. . Audio quality for streaming music is low. . I find the app lacking pretty much every feature I go looking for, starting with a basic equalizer. With everything being automatically adjusted constantly there are times when certain frequency ranges are amplified excessively. I would dearly love to just take control and tell it what to do at times. No can-do. . App lacks a “find my lost hearing aid“ feature, which ironically would have come in very handy on week two. .

Definitely bothered I can only streams music, calls in one ear with Wireless device..( Extra $$) with my Nexus 5x, worked fine with my 6 year old aids. Costco should really fix this issue for Android users.

Exchanged my 7.0 for 8.0 a week ago to pick up the Bluetooth capability. Love that Bluetooth and how it works for phone calls. The app can give you a lot of information but it's a total hog of the phone battery. I've had to recharge my phone in the middle of the day with all the functionality on. Now I've turned off everything but the ability to select the program and adjust the volume and the sound balance and it's not using much phone battery power now. When the HA batteries start to weaken it can cause all sorts of problems and an inability to change the volume. I was in a very noisy environment on Saturday and it was impossible to lower the volume. That's a clear sign to change the batteries.

Outstanding product! Works real well with an iPhone ! Added benefit to hearing better is no longer using the phrase “huh”! And my wife not yelling at me to turn the TVs down !!!

Settings/General/Accessibility/MFI Hearing Devices on the iPad. I believe it only connects to one apple device at a time, so if it's already connected to your iPhone, you probably need to disconnect it from that to connect it to your iPad

Wow! Great hearing aid. Programming option are great. Interface with iPhone for phone calls is fantastic. BUT I lost one of my hearing aids today. In a panic, didn’t want to test the loss guarantee, didn’t know how long that would take. Hmmm! Came up with an idea to use the iPhone to find the hearing aid. I had been working outside and inside. The iPhone led me inside, and then to the right room. The rest was up to me. But without the aid of the iPhone, I never would have found it.
Member
I just lost both of my aids. Next set must have locator app. I was under the impression that the 8.0's didnt have a locator feature. Can you advise how you used the app to find your aids? Tnx
Member
Don’t need the app for this. AIDS due have to be blue tooth linked to the iPhone. Settings, General, Accessability, MFI Hearing Devices. Click the connected link to view the battery strength. If the strength display is searching, retrace your likely steps watching to see if the battery strength signal for either aids shows up. You are now within about 15 feet of the aid. I then moved in each of four directions to scope out the boundary. Then I new the aid was within the area. About 30 ft by 30 ft. Meant I knew which room of the house and to stop searching outside or in the garage.

I have tried few times to get into connexx Smart Direct or Smart Direct on my LG phone. Nothing isn't working. Have anyone have problems with it??
Michael H
Has your Costco tried troubleshooting over the phone with you? That depends on which LG phone you have. Make sure your bluetooth is on, go into the app and click the bottom right menu, then click setup. Once you click set up open and close battery doors and lay the HAs on top of the phone.
Member
Copied this from the Smart Direct app, in 'help' under 'usage statistics' - 'Compatible Smartphones': 1) Google Nexus 6P (Android 7.1.1 or higher) 2) Samsung Galaxy S8 - SM-G950F (Android 7.0 or higher) 3) Samsung Galaxy S8 (USA) - SM-G950U (Android 7.0 or higher) 4) Samsung Galaxy S7 - SM-G930F (Android 7.0 or higher) 5) Samsung Galaxy S7 (USA) - SM-G930V (Android 7.0 or higher) 6) Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - SM-G935F (Android 7.0 or higher) 7) Samsung Galaxy S6 - SM-920I (Android 6.0.1 or higher) 8) Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - SMG925F (Android 7.0 or higher) don't think your LG is compatible. Maybe if you have a galaxy note, google pixel, one of the higher end phones you might be able to get away with it
Member
I have an LG G6 and the signature 8.0 hearing aids, and the smart direct app works perfectly. I had some trouble pairing it, but once it paired, it's fine.
Member
if you don't have an iPhone/iPod/iPad or samsung phone don't bother with Connexx Smart Direct app. Download the Connexx Smart Remote app instead and set it up with that one. The KS8 is a ramped up KS7 so the KS7 app works with it, and the smart remote app is 'compatible with any Android device running Android 4.0 or higher'. Go rexton, manual setup, rexton products, follow instructions. Once it's setup, go into 'advanced setup', 'performance level 80' to bring back microphone-pattern mode. This is what worked for me

Since the vast majority of cell phones are Android, why do these hearing aids apparently work primarily and most easily with the iPhone?

Apple developed the technology for it, Android doesn't have it link

First time wearing hearing aids, very satisfied with them. The service from Costco was great! I have a friend who has never worn aids, but after listening to me and telling him the benefits, he is going to Costco to purchase them.

I have the 8.0 hearing aids. When I try to use the remote mic on my iPhone 10 there is a very slight delay that is bad enough for me to not be able to use this feature. I am thinking about purchasing a Bluetooth 2.4 transmitter for my TV, for $40.00 instead of the $165.00 Costco charges. Anyone have experience with this? I am afraid there may be that delay I hear using remote mic. That would make it unusable. Thanks for any feedback! Otherwise like them after 1.5 days using them.
Member
Before you get a bluetooth transmitter adapter for your TV, it would be a good idea to check the audio outputs available on the TV. I use one but have to connect it to the cable box because my TV will only output audio to one source at a time. You have to choose the TV speakers or the aux output. This is a very common issue if you plan to use the headphone jack that may be on your TV, because that will automatically shut off the TV speakers, at least on my TV it does. They are all different, so check it out carefully.

I've not worn hearing aids at all, but have an obvious need. I've been contemplating buying a pair of these. I've been waiting for the 8.0 T version to become available. The primary reason being it uses a larger battery which will have a longer battery life. I've been informed by my local Costco center that the 8.0 T version is now available, and is the same price as the 8.0. They told me they have a dummy version of the 8.0 T available in the warehouse so I can compare it size wise with the 8.0
Member
I am interested in getting the Signature 8.0T hearing aid. The hearing aids that I have now are about 7 yrs old and are not doing a good job anymore. I know from experience that I have quite a bit of earwax in my right ear. I have tried the store products to remove it. It softens the wax but does not remove it. My question is will the Audiologist at Costco remove the wax before doing the hearing test? It is about a hour drive to Costco each way so I would hate to be sent away, plus I will be joining Costco just to get the hearing aids.

I love having the ability to stream phone calls through these. I am struggling with the microphone though, unless my iPhone is really close to me callers cannot hear me very well. Any suggestions on phone microphone settings that would make this work better?
Member
Do they have programs for Tinnitus? Do they have Bluetooth?
Member
None of the hearing aids at Costco have a tinnitus manager. If you have an iPhone (or a Smart Mic accessory), you can get around it by downloading a tinnitus app and then streaming those sounds to the hearing aids. It has Bluetooth low energy, which is not 100% the same as bluetooth

I waited for the new KS 8 to come out, because of the iPhone capacity. I’m very disappointed as I get so much static through the HA when on the phone, music, or audio books. I had them adjusted to no avail, then asked for replacement. The second pair also have the annoying static! They work well for normal use, but streaming no.
Lisa M
I'm a first time HA user, and on week 3 of KS8. I'm noticing static in my left. First noticed popping during podcast, but now I hear it during normal use. Will ask for replacement.
Lisa M
I think the problem is resolved -- just dealt with it yesterday afternoon. Specialist changed the receiver to a less powerful one. So far, so good. Someone in another thread had a great idea about testing HA in reverse ear. With my static/popping problem in left, specialist brought up possibility about the "better ear (very mild loss)" detecting the static. That wasn't the case, but I didn't think about testing if my right ear could hear the static, or to see what my right HA sounded like in my left. Good tip.

Can somebody please tell me the pros and cons of the Kirkland Signature hearing aid 8.0 Vs the 8.0T ?

KS8 - doesn't have Telecoil, uses smaller 312 battery which doesn't last as long. Is smaller. KS8T - has Telecoil, uses bigger size 13 battery which lasts longer, but is also much bigger to accommodate the bigger battery

I bought Kirkland 8.0 hearing aids in Cedar Park, TX. I'm not able to comment on the quality of the hearing aids because the service was so poor. The guy who fitted mine had absolutely no idea what he was doing. When I tried to explain to him that I had to remove the devices to understand what people were saying in conversations and when trying to watch television or a movie there was such a crackling sound that it was impossible to tolerate. After five appointments and three months time this guy told me hearing aid were not perfect and I would just have to get used to it. I returned them.

I have an issue with the left hearing aid suddenly not working and the battery that I replaced this AM shows no charge. This has happened twice in the last week so I think there is an issue with this hearing aid. Please advise as I cannot get in for an appointment with Costco for two weeks.

Try a different battery? If you replaced it with a battery with no charge... maybe you got a dud battery?

I‘m not pleased with my KS 8.0 hearing aids. They use up batteries in 3-5 days. No rechargeable battery option available. The iPhone connection is weird and more trouble than it‘s worth. The hearing aids keep trying to connect to other devices, such as my iPad, even though the iPad doesn‘t have the hearing aid software installed. My previous hearing aids were Rexton with a rechargeable battery.

I purchased the hearing aids in February of 2018. I love them- Except- the bluetooth match while in my car. When in my car, I can place a call through the bluetooth of my vehicle. But, when I get a call, I am unable to receive the call- neither through the bluetooth in my car, my iPhone, or hearing aids! I have gone twice to my closest Costco. They have unpaired the hearing aids, then paired them again. Same problem. They called the manufacturer and I guess I am the only one with this problem? The dealer I go to- Lexus- said to buy a new vehicle. That maybe the new system would pair better??? Anyone have the same issue?

Anyone here having trouble with the bluetooth in their car? When I make phone calls, the call goes through the blue tooth in my car. But- when I receive a call, the call goes into limbo! I cannot receive it through the car, iPhone, or hearing aids! My local Costco unpaired the hearing aids then paired again. No luck. Lexus said to buy a new vehicle with newer technology. Manufacturer said no one has ever complained about this! Do any of you use the blue tooth inside your vehicle? Do you have problems?

Just got my first HA and so far I like these. I was having some small issues with Bluetooth not working from iPad to iPhone and back. Went in for my two week check and there was a new firmware update she had to load into the HA. My Bluetooth issue seemed to be my iPhone became unpaired with my HA. After the firmware update and fresh batteries all working fine. My domes we slipping out a bit so went up a size and they seem almost to tight, but going to try them and see how it goes. The audiologist was extremely helpful at my Silverdale WA location and is eager to help me with any issues. I enjoy listening to my music via Bluetooth while shopping and it’s not overwhelming with sound and allows ambient noises and conversations to come thru easily. I have needed HAs for probably dozens of years and glad I finally have them. I’ve found I’m relistening to my favorite music and amazed at how many musical instruments I’ve missed in songs. Also went to my first movie tonight and had no issues with the action scenes and loud boomy sounds. For reference, I muted my HA and couldn’t believe how much Sound I’ve been missing. My hearing isn’t horrible, just anything in the high frequencies are muted and flat. I’m finding hearing myself speak is rather strange. When I mute the HA my internal voice sounds mumbling and flat, now I sound very clear and annunciation is more distinct. Is this the best HA for the money, I honestly have no idea, but I’m not disappointed in the least.

I'm not that impressed w/these. The app will mysteriously go into "demo" mode and I have to reboot my phone to get out of it. They go into "acoustic" mode for no apparent reason and again, I'll have to re-boot and re-pair my hearing aids. I was REALLY looking forward to streaming music while I'm walking or even working at my desk, but it's so unreliable. Rarely will I get sound in both ears and they make me dizzy with how often they cut in and out. I don't bother now. I will say though, the sound of the music streaming into my hearing aids is awesome. If only they worked! I have another appointment next week and I'm just going to ask for something different. I've been wearing hearing aids for 9 years but these are just too frustrating.

The last pair of hearing aids I bought 5 years ago from an audiologist for $7,000.00 and my hearing had declined since then and so when my dog ate my aids, I knew I needed new ones anyway. However, my budget could not afford new hearing aids that cost $7,000.00 I had resigned myself to start saying, "Excuse me, I did not hear you" in social situations and miss out on the hearing world around. I even stopped going to the movies, because my hearing aids did not work well with the movie head phones. I still couldn't hear clearly. I am a researcher in my career, so I started researching hearing aid companies and prices. The nearest Costco from me was 2 hours away and I was not a member, offered their Kirkland Signature 8.0 for $1600.00 I AM close to a Sam's Club, but the best they could do was $2400.00 - so I opted to pay for my membership and I went to Costco. I was VERY SURPRISED when the audiologist, who performed a thorough exam and testing , asked me when I wanted to get my new aids. I said, "I want them today, if I can have them!" I've now had them a few weeks and go for a follow up visit in another week. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! I can hear again. I even went to the movies! Now the first thing I do in the morning is put my hearing aids in. Before, I had just previously left them out when I was at home, but these I ACTUALLY ENJOY WEARING THEM!~ The 6 month trial period is PHENOMENAL! The fact that they will REPLACE AT NO COST any lost or damaged aid for the FIRST YEAR IS UNHEARD OF!!! I highly recommend going to Costco. I know in 3-5 years I will be going back there again!

My previous hearing aids I'd bought from an audiologist for $7,000. 5 years ago. So when my dog ate them, I wasn't too upset, because I was due for an upgrade anyway. But $7,000.00 for 2 hearing aids was definitely not in my budget. I was not a member of Costco and the closest Costco was 2 hours away! Sam's club offered hearing aids, but their price was $2400.00 compared to Costco's Kirkland Signature 8.0 for $1600.00! $800.00 buys A LOT of batteries, so I went to Costco. I was examined and tested and the difference in what they offered me was UNBELIEVABLE! 6 MONTHS TO TRY THEM AND RETURN IF NOT SATISFIED!!!! REPLACEMENT OF ANY LOST OR DAMAGED HEARING AIDS FOR THE FIRST YEAR! NO ONE GIVES YOU THAT KIND OF GUARRANTEE ANYWHERE. I LOVE THEM. I WEAR THEM ALL THE TIME AND TELL EVERYONE TO GO TO COSTCO.

I am absolutely thrilled with my hearing aids. I am an avid outdoorsman and have been gradually missing out on the sounds of nature. My world has been brought back and seems even brighter now. The birds, wind through the tree leaves, running water, even the dogs foot steps on the kitchen floor are beautiful sounds to me. The service I received at the Allentown PA store was very professional, educational and friendly. Paul was awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone and have already done so. The hearing aids are top quality and have unbelievable features and are an incredible value. I have had no problems adjusting to wearing them and feel as though my quality of life has improved. My hair is short and most people don't even realize I'm wearing them except for the fact I'm not asking them to repeat themselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

My left ear needs a lot more volume than my right ear. It also needs more treble than the right ear. But it seems that the Signature 8.0 can only have programs that are the same for both hearing aids and that the volume can only be changed for both at the same time. Even though the iphone has separate controls for each ear, they don't work. Is the signature 8.0 a dumbed down version of another aid, or on which aid can each ear be adjusted separately.

I can't comment on the adjustability of treble on the Kirkland Signature 8.0 hearing aids, but as for being able to individually adjust volume ear by ear, that is adefinitely doable deal. I know because with the KS 8.0 aids that I bought in mid December of 2018, and use with my iPhone SE (running iOS 12), I do exactly that regularly. If you still have this issue and need a solution, I would encourage you to call or visit your CostCo and talk to the hearing aid specialist about making sure you have the latest firmware revision / iPhone software / whatever to make it work for you too. I hope this helps.

These replaced a mail-order hearing aid that had broken down for the 2nd time in as many years. Before that I had tried more expensive hearing aids for a month from a hearing aid store, but ended up getting a refund as I wasn't pleased with the audio quality, and bluetooth would have required a separate box that cost even more. I've only had these Kirkland 8.0 hearing aids a week but I'm pretty happy so far. The hearing test and purchase experience was top-notch (they let me try out a couple of products during my first visit and walk around the store with them), sound quality is very good, they're comfortable, I like the color, and I can definitely hear people's speech and environmental sounds better. My only complaints are about bluetooth. Music quality is just so-so due to weak bass, which is no big deal since I don't listen to music much (though maybe I would if it sounded better). But a more annoying problem is that if I get an incoming call while driving, I have to take out my iPhone to see who's calling and to answer; although I can hear the ringtone in my hearing aids, the car's display doesn't show an incoming call and the steering wheel answer button doesn't work (but I know my car and iPhone are still connected because I can still make a call from the car's display). I've tried changing various settings on my iPhone with no luck; there seems to be no way around this unless I disconnect the hearing aids from my iPhone. I know this is more likely the fault of my iPhone or my car than my hearing aids, but it's still disappointing.

I've had my hearing aids for 4 days. I love being able to hear. Occasionally I hear pops, or hearing switches back and forth from left to right, quickly. I live in a very humid environment and sweat a lot. Could that be the problem?

I have the Rexton hearing aids and am very happy with them and the attention to detail the practitioner pays. What I am not happy about is the toxic product they use to wipe down the room in between clients. It is called Cavicide - and is harmful. I have sent letters to Costco headquarters and they weren't very open to looking at the issue. There are literally thousands of complaints about this chemical reported to the FDA. Check out Cavicide and see if you want to be breathing that into your body in an enclosed room! And what about the health and well being of the practitioners??

I bought the 1Mii B03 Long Range 230Ft Bluetooth 4.2 Transmitter Receiver to try to stream the TV sound into my hearing aids but I can't seem to pair the two together. Any one know if this can be done?

I have the 1Mii B03 Long Range 230Ft Bluetooth 4.2 Transmitter hooked to my TV and I'm trying to pair it to my Signature 8 hearing aids. Can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

Forced my audiologist to update the firmware on the KS8 hearing aid.  They load thier software and usually just "dismiss" the message that pops up asking them to update the firmware.

After they updated the firmware, my hearing aids pair with my google pixel phone.  Also, the update extended the battery life by 4 more days.

Force your audiologist to update the firmware.  Most are just lazy sales people usually don't care anymore once they sell you the aid.  Don't take no for an answer, they are being lazy.

Also, I am looking for a solution if anyone knows how to to do this.  I need a device that can put into my radio at work via 3.5mm cord, and output to the hearing aid.

IF anyone can try a cheapo chinese bluetooth transmitter with 3.5mm out and can get it to pair with the hearing aid, let me know......

I have recently collected my Signature 8 hearing aids. When they are near an ultrasonic cleaner they produce a very loud crackling noise. Is this normal for this model?

My old Kirkland aids did not do this.

Your telecoil might be turned on. I started noticing that my heairing aids started to whine everytime I started the car. It would stop when I shut it off. It turned out that I had activated the telecoil. I shut it off and no whining.

What I do not see here amid all the acclaim for hearing better is how reliable are these hearing aids. I am a long time hearing aid user (15 years) with a lot of experience with multiple vendors. While these digital hearing aids are wonderful machines, everything in them is minature. It has been my experience that they need an awful lot of attention. The initial fitting takes time and patience. Daily use takes its toll with the reciever (the part that goes into the ear canal) taking the brunt of it. That is a very thin wire that connects it to the hearing aid. I have had to have it replaced several times on my current units. They are only 2 years 3 months old and they just came back to me after having everything except the hearing aid shell replaced. Now, this has cost me nothing as they came with a 3 year warranty. I can go to my audiologist as many times as I like and I do not pay anything. I have been to his office 11 times since I bought these. If this were your car, you would call it a lemon. No vendor seems to be immune to the wear and tear these units experience. Anybody here have the same experience?

COSTCO informs me that the manufacturer of the Kirkland Signature 8 is no longer supporting the brand so we can't get the parts we need.  I am wearing a mismatched set...small tube and tip on me left side and medium on the right.  We have ordered the medium, but they tell me that the company is not filling orders so I don't have much hope. I'm scared of the small sized ones: I had a tip come off and lodge in my ear canal. COSTCO people are not allowed to take it out so I had to go to an Urgent Care to get it removed.  Why are people still promoting this brand if the manufacturer is not standing behind it??  I just do not know what to do now.

Just came back from a conference and had a horrible time hearing all that was going on. I was told a few years back that I was a candidate for hearing aids. Now it's time. I feel left out of conversations since I can't hear.  Do I go see a audiologist or will the hearing test at Costco be enough?  My mom had a terrible time with her hearing aids. She was always messing with them and getting infections.  I don't want the same issue.  Thanks for any input.

The Connexx Smart Remote app and the Connexx Smart Direct app are not the same. Smart Remote uses an acoustic connection to the hearing aids (HA), while Smart Direct uses a bluetooth connection.

While the bluetooth connection permits establishing a direct connection between the HA and a bluetooth device (e.g. a phone, TV, etc), many users of the Smart Direct app report difficulty establishing and maintaining a bluetooth connection. Many people with Android phones recommend the Smart Remote, with its acoustic connection, rather than the bluetooth connection in the Smart Direct.

I am using the Smart Remote app with a Samsung J3 phone and Costco KS8 hearing aids purchased in Dec 2018. This app permits changing between programs, and it has a mute setting, as well as adjustments for volume, bass/treble and microphone direction. I do not have a battery level indicator or the "use indicator" that seem to be available on some higher level Samsung phones.

I never have a problem achieving and maintaining a connection between the phone and the HA. However, if I want to change settings in a very noisy environment it is sometimes necessary to hold the phone close to the HA so that the HA can hear the high frequency sound that connects them.

For some reason, the app will not work if my phone is connected to any device using bluetooth (e.g. the cell phone app in our car); I do not know why this is the case since the app is not using bluetooth to connect to the HA.

Contrary to what some users have reported, I find that the HA retain the settings selected using the app, including microphone directionality; they DO NOT revert to default settings after a period of time. However, the microphone directionality display on the phone DOES revert to the default image after a few minutes. I verified this by playing a sound generator through a small loudspeaker. With the microphones set to provide a 90 degree forward gain pattern the sound is about 4-7 dB louder when facing the loudspeaker. The HA will retain this forward gain setting all day until I change it myself, even though the display in the phone app reverts to the default display after a few minutes. The HA DO revert to the default settings when you turn them off.

Using my loudspeaker test, I find that the actual microphone forward gain pattern is pretty close to the pattern illustrated in the app.

I should mention that I have RIC (receiver in canal) HA which provide gain only at higher frequencies (1 kHz and up) because I can hear low frequencies reasonably well. For me, the microphone directionality setting thus controls only those higher frequencies. With microphones set to 90 forward, my observed forward gain is about 7 dB at 4-6 kHz, about 4 dB at 2 kHz, and 2 dB at 500 Hz. The latter is the normal directionality that you would expect without a HA.

The app will adjust the microphone pattern only in Automatic mode. However, forward gain is also increased in the Noise/Party mode. In that mode, the forward gain pattern seems roughly comparable to choosing the 90 degree forward gain pattern in Automatic mode. In a noisy restaurant, I prefer the Automatic mode with the microphones set to 90 degrees forward because the Noise/Party mode also makes adjustments to the gain in various frequency bands, which I do not like. I also the Automatic mode with the microphones set to 90 degrees forward for watching TV and while driving in a car (especially when in the back seat).
