My audiologist recommended AGX hearing aids, but when I look at all the information on the internet they are barely referenced. Consumer Reports doesn't include them. How do they rate?

AGX is a private labeling of hearing aids for practices affiliated with Audigy group. AGX are private label of the major HA manufacturers.

AGXR - GN ReSound
AGXS - Starkey
AGXO - Oticon
AGXsi - sivantos (formerly Siemens)
AGXW - Widex

You're provider should be able to tell you the non private label model if you're wanting to do additional research.

I strongly recommend against AGX hearing aids.  They are basically re-branded hearing aids from one of the Big 6 manufacturers.  They are good hearing aids, but they have 2 HUGE problems.  #1. They re-brand them so you can't price compare with other companies.  However, the largest issue #2. is that they are locked to only Audigy practices.  This means that you can only go to an Audigy practice to have them adjusted.  If your audiologist's practice closes, or you move to a different city that does not have an Audigy practice, you cannot have them adjusted.  This is a way to restrict access to care.  Request that they sell you name brand only, never accept AGX.

Hi, and thanks for inquiring about AGX Hearing, and a big "Thank you!" to those of you who have already helped answer this question.

In short, AGX Hearing is a hearing care brand vs. it being just a hearing aid or technology brand — it's comprised of providers, services, testing, and, of course, hearing aid technology that is centered on delivering a great experience for folks like you. Practices who deliver the AGX Hearing brand to their patients represent providers who have strived throughout their careers to create real and lasting relationships with their patients in order to better understand how to refine the delivery of their care. That's what lies at the heart of this brand: the provider-patient relationships that lead to a successful hearing care experience.

When it comes to the technology itself, like many have already stated, AGX Hearing is comprised of the best hearing aids the world’s five major hearing aid manufacturers have to offer — the latest, most effective devices from ReSound, Starkey, Oticon, Widex, and Signia.

We apologize that this aspect of your search for the best hearing solution possible has been a confusing one. That’s something that we’re committed to fixing. We can assure you that if you choose to work with and AGX-affiliated practice, we will do our best to take care of your needs!

A side note for some to clarify some of the previous comments: Practices who provide the AGX Hearing brand do indeed work with Audigy. Audigy is a management company (vs. a buying group) that works with independent private practices across North America. We support them by providing business services so they can focus on delivering a higher standard of care to their patients.

Thanks, everyone — take care!

AGX hearing devices are privately labeled by a nationwide "buying group" named Audigy Group, and they are the same technology that is presently the Oticon, Starkey, Resound, and other brands. The technology is comparable to today's technology from Oticon, Resound, and Starkey at this time. Your audiologist is part of the Audigy network, so they recommend the hearing technology based on the hearing aid manufacturers Audigy is currently contracted with. Hearing aids are complex, and their quality for you is determined based on the expertise of the audiologist more than the technology itself.

I have to admit I have been qualified 13 years & I haven't heard of them!

In the UK where my company operates there are a couple of the larger High Street Chains which rename or historically renamed their products.

Most products are based on technology from "the big six" (the main hearing aid manufacturers).

There is a good chance they are based on them ask for further clarification as to who makes them.

Only go where they have the top brands.  ReSound Oticon Siemens Widex Starkey Unitron. Don't get any of these by another name or you will be trapped in that network. Go to an independent private practice audiologist. If he/she is a member of a buying group they are not independent and beholdin to that group. You should search for the best professional, not the brand as the top brands are comparable but the professionals are not. Visit several offices in your area and you will get a good sense of who you should go to. Don't order on your first visit.

Yes AGX is a private label which uses 5 of the 6 major manufacturers.   I've said this before; the product is only a part of the solution.  The relationship you have with your provider and the skill of the provider is the second piece.  And equally as important to this equation is you!  When all three components align it is a recipe for success.  Know that with the AGX label you will have great technology..  Best of luck to you.
