About the iHEAR HD

The iHEARHD device is one of the more affordable hearing aids on the market. It comes with no service agreement, and encourages the consumer to complete their own hearing test, using iHEAR's proprietary self-hearing screening device. The complete package (one pair of HEARHD hearing aids with Programming Kit, which includes the iHear Hearing Test) costs $827 plus the cost of batteries (see discussion below).

The iHEARHD began its life on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo in early 2014. Adnan Shennib, inventor of the Lyric and iHEAR CEO, enticed potential investors to purchase an iHEARHD device with the promise that one iHEARHD would be dontated to"the economically disadvantaged" for each iHEARHD purchased (a marketing strategy that worked for TOMS shoes in 2006). iHEAR's Indiegogo campaign was a success, raising almost a quarter of a million dollars with an initial goal of only $65,000. There were some delays after the campaign, but iHEAR eventually began shipping the iHEARHD to campaign backers, and is now shipping products without delay from the iHear Medical Store. iHear is now venture backed with over $10.4M in financing - and backed by major investors including Brother International, Ameritas, etc.

It's hard to say whether the iHEAR device would be successful with the average person with age-related hearing loss, as the device looks to sport an occluding (tight-fitting) earpiece, which could unintentonially boost deep tones for those who have normal hearing for lower pitches (this may lead to louder sound than necessary to achieve better hearing). If you have personal experience with the device, please submit a review or leave a comment below.

Some notes:

  • iHEARHD "is designed to operate reliably for about 18-24 months."
  • iHEARHD batteries last "7-10 days on the average, assuming 14 hours daily operation, and turning the device off at night."
  • Batteries are purchased on a subscription basis at $4/month.
  • Batteries will cost $48/year per device, or $144-192 over the expected lifetime of a pair of iHEARHD's.
  • The total cost of a pair of iHEARHD hearing aids (including the devices and batteries over 2 years) is estimated to be around $950.
  • Read more at iHEAR's FAQ

Future upgrades (Available July 2016):

  • "Up to 3 program settings for different sound environments"
  • "One year unlimited professional support"

iHEAR HD Reviews

Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome ... Continue reading

I had to rate the HD because the EON is not on here. I use close tips and they only come with size 9 and 12. I tried to order size 10 or 11 but no one responded after several attempts. I finally got Andrew to give me an RMA to return. I spent the $20 to return. They received them on 3/29/21. I have emailed 4 times in the past week. Andrew told he was checking on it on the 2nd email but nothing after that. Here it is 4/12/21 and still nothing. Took them 4 months to initially send them to me. Hope it does not take as long for my return. I have previously purchased  pairs of the HDs from ihear and they work pretty well. Customer service used to be good but is now horrible.

These are very good hearing aids and an excellent value. They are great in quiet to medium noisy environments, and provide some improvement in noisy environments. They are very inconspicuous and unobtrusive. They are programmable with the related software and hardware which means you can fairly easily re-adjust them as your hearing changes. The design of the replaceable ear tips is wonderful. Normally, fitting my ear canals is difficult, but these fit snugly, comfortably, and stop all feedback. My only complaints are that for me these have only lasted about 2 years, and maybe 3% of the batteries arrive defective. Be aware these do not have noise cancelling, so they aren't that good in noisy environments. Also because they are so small with only about 5/8" between the microphone and the speaker, they are more limited in the amount they can amplify compared to behind the ear style hearing aids. When removing the hearing aid don't yank them straight out, as the tip may stay in your ear. I remove them at a moderate speed, starting with a downward (or upward) rotation and have not had any problems.

I think these are very good hearing aids and a great value. They provide very good improvement in quiet to medium noisy environments. They are programmable, so as your hearing changes you can readjust them yourself pretty easily. The design of the ear canal fit is great. Fitting my ears is normally problematic, but with the replaceable tips these use the fit is snug, comfortable, and stops all feedback. They are extremely inconspicuous. The only complaints I have is that for me they have only lasted about two years, which is shorter than I would like, and maybe 3% of the batteries are defective on arrival. Be aware these hearing aids do not have noise cancelling, so they only provide a small improvement in noisy environments. Also because they are entirely in your ear area and the mike and speaker are only about 5/8" away from each other, they are more limited in how much they can amplify compared to behind the ear models.

After trying several much more expensive over the ear hearing aids, I bought the IHear HD and have never thought about going back. I especially like the ability to reprogram them myself after retaking an online hearing test from time to time and then to adjust the programming on my computer until it works for me. My only critiques are the fairly short life span (18 months), the limited earpieces sizes which don't quite work for me and the need to order batteries from the company, which are limited to a 2 month supply.

I purchased mine in March/April of 2018 and have been happy. The cost vs aids from traditional hearing aid offices was a huge deal for me. I honestly don't know how people with hearing loss on a fixed budget can afford it...so it was wonderful to find this option. This was my second pair of aids so I was very familiar with the "in's and out's" of aids and did not see the value in having the security of a local office to go to with issues or follow up appointments etc. Initial set up was not crazy hard and anytime I needed assistance they were easy to reach and quick to respond. Customer support has always been amazing. I have been able to reorder batteries, accessories, etc. either online via the website or simply by calling. I have owned them for 15 months and wore them 12-16 hours daily with no issues until now. Something has come "unbounded" and I am out of warranty...but they are still going to take care of me and replace the aid. That is amazing and such a relief. Some things I wish could be better.....battery life and the occasional random whistling that will come and go. I believe the whistling may be from wax or other blockage/build up and it almost always will go away after wiping them off. I have never bothered to contact them about it because it has never been that huge of an issue.

Battery life is only 3 days (42 hours) with a level 3 moderately severe hearing loss and running at profile 2 (reduced volume) and 3 (speech clarity) mostly. I feel that the proprietary battery is costly and inconvenient due to limited availability but these aids are the best value for my needs.

I no longer wear the HD (got the eva) the hd worked great, just never fit my ear (small canal) and unfortunately I missed the return window. I asked to have them exchange for the eva but they would not- I tried to use the hd on and off for a year or so and finally bought the eva which works much better for me. I only have the left HD and I had just bought batteries and tips, oh well...

This is my first experience with hearing aids/amplifiers (other than a bluetooth device with scoop amplification which is no longer available), and I'm extremely pleased. Every time I replace a battery, the hard clicking action makes me think the aid should break one of these times, but no, they're tough. The batteries are reasonably priced and delivered quickly. My hearing tested 5, 5, 3L/2R, 2 (500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz) on the home test. Reading Hearingtracker's warning above about the device using a tight fit which could lead to louder bass sounds than necessary has me slightly concerned, in case that means it could damage my low pitch hearing (I can't afford to lose any more!). However, to my untrained ears it seems to be boosting mostly the higher registers. My go-to modes are "Lower" and "Conversational", but that's just me and my settings. One drawback, for my settings at least, is that I have to stop chewing when someone is talking because otherwise the chewing sound overpowers the conversation. My three customer service encounters were all exceptional: 1. My setup with the home testing kit had my walking on the rug sounding like scattering pieces of metal, so I contacted CS and got great help, he even set it remotely to something less. 2. Then one of the units was bad, always switching modes on its own. They replaced it after some back-and-forth diagnosis. 3. That replacement seemed bad too, because I heard nothing from it, couldn't even induce feedback noises. Contacted CS and they responded perfectly, telling me to send it back and they'd send a new one. But just before I sent it back, I tried putting the mode-switching magnet in front of my tragus as usual, and heard very faint tones, indicating a mode change. Aha! My bad. Even though I hadn't used that aid more than 3 or 4 times, it had accumulated earwax, most likely from putting in the aid right after showering, such that liquidy wax flowed into the aid and later hardened. I simply cleaned the wax from the rubber removable earpiece AND inside the tube of the device with a safety pin, and it was like new. I give it 5 stars, but am not sure that will be calculated from the individual star ratings, because I had to select 3 stars for the "reliable" question because one was faulty, and give some other 4-star answers like Music and Phone, because my unaided phone earpiece and music headphones are great, so how could I answer with a 5 for "vast improvement"? My last visit to my nephew's and his fast-talking Irish wife, who I could rarely understand, was my first with the iHear HDs. On day four in a restaurant, his wife exclaimed, "It's so great to be able talk with Uncle Joe." That brought it home how much these things have done for me.

Not a paid review. I had trouble finding a good review before I purchased these so I'd like provide this for others considering. BLUF: Overall I'm happy with the units. Had some QC issues but I was able to resolve for the most part. Great Value. Pros: *Work really well. Exceeded my expectation for performance and makes for a great value. Works well for me in crowded environments, which was a surprise considering the cheap cost. *Self Programmable. You buy the hearing test software and programming kit (cheap) and you can program them yourself. *Magnetic Disk to change modes is quicker and simpler than more complex blue tooth or RF controllers.' *Very light and comfortable for a CIC device *Black color hides the unit well within the ear canal. *Super nice and responsive US based tech support when you call voice. Not fast responses on email though. *Battery Consumption is as advertised. I'm getting 3-4 days with 1/2 day of use per battery. *shipment well packaged, nothing missing. *includes multiple silicone plugs for self fitting. Cons: *Proprietary Battery Modules - These are very reasonably priced, but you still have to get them from the MFG or vendor who carries units, you won't find the batteries at CVS. *No quick start guide. You kind of have to figure out where to start (i.e. hearing test first? Power up unit first? DL software first?) *Physical connection of Silicon plugs Flakey - See below. Issues I have experienced so far: 1. Upon receiving the VIP package, the USB ear test/programming cable had not been registered to in the iHear system. I had to call Tech Support and have them "register them". I consider this a QC issue. They should have caught that before shipping. 2. The left ear module arrived Dead. Had to return it, tech support did a quick turn around and got me a new unit in about 3 business days. Again another QC issue in my opinion. 3. Design Flaw on the way the silicon tips attach to the units. There are only 2 lightly protruding plastic tabs which hold the ear silicone tips on the units. I have had these pop off 2x's now when removing the units and the result was the silicone tip got stuck deep inside my ear canal, requiring tweezers to remove them. I do consider this a safety issue which they need to resolve in updated designs. If you don't have good dexterity and feel uncomfortable fishing stuff out of your ear canal I would avoid these until they fix the design. I found that some of the provided tips don't "snap" was tightly or as well as others which seem to attach more loosely. Again another QC issue.

The fact that you can custom program these things is amazing! You can set them to your personal hearing disability. That was the selling point for me when I was choosing which hearing device to order from whom. After I programmed them and put them in my ears, I started hearing sounds that I haven't heard in years. I stopped while walking down the hallway because of the noise I was hearing. It was my pant legs rubbing together! When I got to the kitchen and could hear everything, yeah, I got choked up. And their customer service is the best out there. They want to make sure that you are completely satisfied and will go out of their way to do so. Quick response and extremely helpful. The person I've been in touch with, time after time, has been patient, diligent, understanding and very, very helpful. Don't look anywhere else! These are the people to go to.

I saw the iHear HD hearing aids on their Indiegogo Campaign. I purchased a pair of the iHear HDs and the programming kit for my mom. She is in her 60s with moderately severe hearing loss (60% loss on one ear, 40% on the other). We did the hearing test, even though it took quite some time as the application would not load on her Mac. A recommendation is to improve upon the application for Apple devices as it took 100% of her computer's resources. She has a 2 - 3 year old iMac laptop, not the fastest device but suits her social media browsing. Luckily we had a Windows computer and ran the test perfectly, showing her hearing profile. After determining her hearing profile, we programmed her hearing aids. We spent some time reviewing the manual and learned how to handle the hearing aids, such as increasing/decreasing volume, storing the hearing aids, and changing the batteries. After some time (at least an hour as we really wanted to know it like the back of our hands), it was like she had transformed. She could hear me whispering right next to her! She usually can't hear my talking voice! I went into the kitchen and tested her asking if she would want anything, and she said "No, thanks!" It was amazing. It has been a month now, and she absolutely loves the hearing aids! For years she said she would buy herself the nice small hearing aids, but since they cost so much, she kept delaying them. These hearing aids were perfect for her, and I am so happy for this company. TL;DR (too long; didn't read) iHear HD Pair (left and right) Review: Programming: 2/5 for Mac (wouldn't load) , 5/5 for Windows. Fit: 4/5, my mom has very small ears, so the black tip sticks out of her ears a bit. While she was very concerned with people noticing the hearing aids, after putting them on the black tips were very small, and only if you were staring could you really notice them. Function: 5/5, She can hear so much more with these hearing aids. No more "What? What did you say? Sorry I can't hear you." The magnet also lets her increase or decrease the volume, so in her dance class she is able to adjust them accordingly. Battery life: 4/5, they are amazingly small. My mom has only been using them for a month, and is on her last pair of batteries (the HDs come with three batteries), which is better than the average 5 - 7 days. Recommendations: Improve the programming app for Apple devices and continue improving batteries as the technology evolves. Thank you for creating such a wonderful product!

9/23 I have yet to received this hearing aid. I will take you through every step of this process to see if the complaints are legitimate with this company. I order from iHear.com this hearing aid. So far there are some issues noticeable. 1. There 30 day warranty return satisfaction starts from the date of shipment which should never be. It should be the date of receiving the product since your not actually trying the product until you receive it. This section of their terms of agreement " Trial Period" may actually be illegal in many states. 2. The product is suppose to ship within 2 days, this so far is not true. So iHear is off to a bad start from the beginning. I will update this review as the process continues and change the feedback as I go. Update, it seems that the website is not up to date on the shipping info. The iHear device shipped same day and arrive in 2 days as promised, you have to select the priority mail option for the 2 day service. The item came will packaged, very professional packaging with clear instructions. It seems though they have trouble with their email system, registered and the activation link never came.

iHear HD is a solid product, I love it. I have been wearing this device for three months, the quality of sounds is consistent. Since they are invisible, no one knows I am wearing hearing aids at my work. I feel very confident in the meetings and talking to people in many different settings nowadays because I can hear clearly and answer questions. This device changed my life personally and professionally.

Ihear HD - great value, easy to set up at home, and make changes to its settings. Very small, easy to forget its even in your ear - other than you can hear! I have moderate hearing loss (3 on the Ihear test) - My ear doctor says I can hear right at normal conversational tones, and did not recommend a device. I was there because my wife was exhausted with my "whats?". I guess she talks slightly lower than that! And the TV volume, and not following conversations when we are out, and not know what the waitress asked...It was time to do something. This is my first hearing aid, so I can not compare it to others, but I could not emagine what else you would need a hearing aid to do. It did take me a few adjustments to get it just right. First, I had too small of the tip on it, so I had occasional feedback. I wore it like that for a bit more than a week, and my ear canal (or just my brain) adjusted, and I was able to fit the next bigger size. That resolved that. Next, with my "3" on the hearing test, I am at near max on the volume. I had to tweak it a bit, so that it did not feedback, but was still loud enough. Very quick and easy to do. I use mine more than the "documents" suggest for battery life - like when I get up, until I go to bed (my wife talks to me in that range, so I want to hear her!). The high volume, and longer wear times, I am using a battery every 6 days, so a "month's supply" is 18 days for me. I wore it at Disney, am guessing the noise canceling was working overtime, and that battery did not make it 3 full days. The batteries are not expensive, just noting that I use about double what the documentation says.

I came across the IHEAR website and was interested in the product. Being a little skeptical of the price vs. quality, i did some in depth research. After 2 weeks of reading everything I could find I decided to give them a try. I figured with the 30 day return policy it was worth trying them out. I also ordered the programming kit. When they arrived I hooked them up and started the programming process, which is very easy to do. I did reprogram them 3 times, but the subsequent times were only for fine tuning. In short, I would recommend these to anyone. The quality is excellent and it is a great value. All things eventually wear out, when that happens I will absolutely reorder another set. A very satisfied customer!!

They are wonderful. I could not afford hearing aids and could not hear Church services or much of anything else for that matter. I've had years of sinus infections that have resulted in debilitating hearing loss. The sound is so natural. I've actually been hearing so many things that I didn't remember. The service at ihear has been amazing. My son found this company and gave me the hearing aids as a gift. The best gift I think I've ever received, other than the gift of my children. I've had my devices for a year now and I can't speak highly enough about iHear!! Marion Phillips

I admit, I was sceptical at first basically because of the price. But WOW! Really happy and glad I found them. Easy to put in and take out, programming is a piece of cake. Put my Starkey's and America Hears aids to shame. Still need to do a little tweaking but I am happy! Andrew in support has been extremely helpful and is a pleasure to deal with. If anything changes, I'll be back to update the review but right now I'm a happy camper. Oh, and the FDA approved hearing test was a snap too. It took some time to find the right adjustments but after 5 months I could not be happier with the results. I have severe hearing loss in both ears from my career as a professional firefighter and have been told that in the ear devices would not work for my condition. My ihearhd exceeds my expectations but not without plenty of trial and error. With good customer care and patience I feel most individuals would benefit from this product. I've been using them since January.

I just have to say thank you to iHear Medical. I have been wearing hearing aids off and on for the last 10 years. I have always been dissatisfied with pricing and appearance of most hearing aids in the market today. I have been waiting for years for hearing devices that are invisible, affordable, and that work properly. All I can say is OMG!! iHear Medical fullfilled all three requirements. I am writing this review not only for iHear Medical, but also, for those people out there who are wondering if these things really work! I am completely stunned that all three of my requirements have been completely fulfilled. I poured Ginger Ale into a glass of ice, and for the first time that I can remember I actually heard the fizz!! I was completely amazed! Then I walked into my bedroom, which is hardwood floor's. I never heard them squeak before...I thought, oh no, now I need to get a new floor-Lol. I was so excited to try this device, however, I have a very small ear canal and was afraid they would not fit. I decided, to take the chance because of the money back guarantee. Wow, am I glad I did. I want to encourage everyone that has any doubt about these devices or questions whether or not they work as advertised....you won't be sorry !!!! They are absolutely incredible and I will recommend them to everyone I know that needs hearing aids!! Thank You iHear Medical Team for a Job well done.

I received the Ihear HD aids and was not able at first to register the left device. After much trouble while I was able to register and adjust it I am not sure that the device was really adjusted properly. It kept cutting out. After about an hour of use I received a signal that the somewhat new battery was used up. I decided to return it but I was told that the trial period would not be renewed and it would run from the mailing date of the first device. This was a little upsetting since I was required to pay for shipping a device that should never have been sent out from the factory with proper testing procedures. I decided not to chance that a second shoddy device would be sent and I packed both of the devices back. This was a terrible experience and should not have happened if the company tested the devices before they sent them out.

I have given your invitation to discuss this situation a lot of thought since I was so disappointed with both the product and the company's reaction when I called to try to resolve the issue. It was very frustrating to try to set up a device that arrived in a non- working condition. Since I received it on a Saturday and you do not have the help office staffed on the weekend I struggled to try to get it to work but without success. I knew that I would have to return the device, wait for a replacement, and hope that the new one would work properly, all because the original device was not checked before it was sent. An initial test of the device would have saved your customer the time, frustration and expense of returning it. What was even more unacceptable was your policy that the initial trial period would run from the date of the mailing of the first device instead of the date of my reception of a working device. I don’t believe that I have anything to add to what I have written here and while I appreciate the invitation to discuss it I don’t believe that a conversation would resolve anything. Thank you.

I have used 2 other brands before I started using Ihear. They both were the most expensive and high-tech aids. I used one of them for 2 yrs with yearly renewal and the other Star for almost a year. One cost 4k/yr and the other 6k. Each brand has advantages and superiority against one another. Ihear has each and every superior future of the other 2 brand. Such as natural sound, easy to place, easy to replace, better hearing anywhere. Ihear eliminates the defects of other 2 brands, such as uncomfort, not reliabliaty, cost..... This is a very personal issue, it is important to feel happy with the aid for a user. To my experience Ihear is great and it is way ahead of others. It works.

I just started using the iHearHD and I am extremely happy. I have a pair of ihearmedical.com iHearMAX hearing aids but haven't gotten to programming them since I'm busy listening with the HD model. I can say this about the MAXs, I just put the battery in and put them in my ears. Amazingly, I can hear the TV as good as I could with my Phonak Audeo IXs - Phonak's best but for $6,000/pair. I don't' mean for the news, I am listening to my favorite music and the iHears are simply a miracle as far I'm concerned. Fine job of audio engineering is my gut - Adnan Shennib has another hit on his hands with his iHearHD and iHearMAXs.

Batteries were somewhat iffy in getting replacements. Online usually indicated out of stock. I had to go without the aid for a few months. I recently received batteries and tips last June and July of 2016. I have had my "Early Bird" aid since 2015. Because of the battery issue, I have not used it the whole time since receiving it. This last batch of batteries when I first removed one, it would not activate the aid. I was able to use the second one to activate the aid. I presume removing the yellow tabs will cause the battery to function regardless of whether I use it or not. Kind of a waste of the first one.

My father is retired and could not really keep paying for the aids that cost thousands of dollars. We were excited to find out that iHear provides affordable high quality hearing aids (not PSAP) that we can customize to my father's hearing at home. So we bought a pair. The wait was rather long since they are a start up. But we think it was worth it. My father has received the iHear hearing aids and have been using them instead of his large BTEs. He adjusts them himself on his laptop and enjoy the flexibility and autonomy. Overall, we are happy.

Liz, Awesome! I am pleased your father is happy with the product and enjoys the self programming options. I do truly apologize for the delay and frustrations in getting your fathers order out and shipped to you. I assure you that we're working as hard as we can so this does not happen in the future. Regards,

I have been waiting for the iHEAR aids to be released for over a year. I've just ordered a pair plus the home test unit and other options on July 1st (the first public sale day), but I'm not sure yet when I will receive them. I'm very interested because I wore Lyrics for 3 years until the new parent company "improved" them and ruined them. The iHEAR founder is the same person who originally developed Lyric aids. Since I switched from Lyric to some very high-end mini BTE aids, I have never heard as well as with the Lyrics and find the BTE aids to be a nuisance, compared with wearing the Lyrics 24x7. So, fingers crossed that the iHEAR aids will work for me and let me hear better again (as some user reviews on the iHEAR website testified).

I am expecting my iHearHD's later this week - very excited about them. I love the idea of "best of everything" in a set of hearing aids - meaning low cost, new design, and invisibility.

I tested and fit my iHearHD hearing aids last night. Easy process - they sound great. I can understand my girls in background noise once again. I wore the Lyric hearing aid and it is great, but not for the price - $10,200 more over three years. I've worn the Phonak Audeo IX top of the line for many years $6,000/pair (TWICE). Life sounds better when it costs $299/ea :-) ... especially for the same quality. The $299 price tag is worth mentioning since it enabled me to buy them. I love music and play a few instruments, so I was floored when I turned on my favorite tunes from over 40 years. In many cases, the music was as good as it was listening to it the first time! No easy feat! Being able to hear well is overwhelmingly great. It's like the feeling you have falling in love and breaking up at the same time - you know something powerful and amazing is happening, but it takes time to understand great hearing drives a passionate renewed vigor for life - because you can hear it again - simply amazing. It was fun trying to explain to my kids how much fun I had playing in a band when I was sixteen - Robert Palmer - Jealous. I had a high-clarity flashback last night on just how good it was with the iHearHD. I vividly recall the band, the power and crazy energy we had as we got tighter and tighter as we played together. I remember the look on the faces of the other guys as we realized we had just done the greatest rendition of our favorite tune ever - you can say it was near joyous. There were high-fives all around. Certainly, it was a peak experience driven by the ability to hear the entire range of pitches and the subtilities of the player's approaches to the music. Very comfortable given that I've had over the ear aids for 10 years. I expected the in-the-ear type would take some getting used to, but I am comfortable this morning, which is a great sign given is only been about 4 hours of wearing. Sitting in my office with my 12-year-old, I said to her, was that whirling whining sound always coming off my computer? Was that strange clicking always there, do you hear that clicking etc etc. She played along and basically confirmed that every sound had been present for the entire 5 years that we've shared the office space. WOW. Never heard any of it - even with the top of the line Phonak and GN Resound hearing aids. I have more testing to do. Noisy public spaces, my favorite restaurant and in the car with kids yelling, wife talking and the news running. This is fun! Here's a great article about the inventor behind this hearing aid - a serial creator bent on helping people without blasting their bank accounts - salute Adnan! link

My zip code is 99201 and you do not have any one in this area. Where can I purchase your product. I have seen an audiologist and an ENT MD. Thank you.

You can order these online - they're great hearing aids. I also just got a pair of the iHearMAX's - I can say this -wow!

I purchased the right and left hearing devices and received them in about 6 days. Unfortunately the left ear device would not connect to the programming cable without quite a bit of trouble. I eventually was able to do so and tried to program it. After programming the devices I tried them but found that the left device would periodically cut out and did not sound right. An hour after placing a new battery I received a low battery indication. I called to determine my options and learned that I could return the device and then wait for a new one to be mailed back. Unfortunately the time to return them would be based on the initial mailing date. It would mean that I would have very little time too evaluate them and return them if appropriate. I decided that since this one never worked that I probably should not chance another. I don't know whether the device was shoddy or the method of testing was deficient but there was a real problem that should have been found before it was sent to me. I am returning them and looking for something else.

I'm in the process of acquiring a pair of these. I say "process" because while I ordered a full set one unit came Dead on Arrival. As other's have noted customer service is super nice, but I'm really disappointed that I ordered something that arrived dead. Seems like QC would have caught that. Anyway its been a few days and I just found out the replacement didn't ship for 2 days after I called thier tech support. They really should work harder to quickly to get stuff like this turned around. The unit which did work (right ear) sounds pretty good. I ordered the VIP kit which included a bunch of stuff. There needs to be a "Start Here" card in the box. It took me a while to figure out which item I should tackle first (i.e. actually powering up the units, testing my hearing, or plugging in the programming kit). Then when I installed the hearing aid test and ran the software I got some message about "USB Not recognized by Database, call tech support". Which I did. The tech support guy said for some reason the unit did not get entered into the DB. (I ordered these directly from ihearmedical, so I would expect this to not be an issue), again a QC issue. He fixed it quickly and I was able to finish the hearing test. Overall I'm happy with the features the units offer. The one unit I have is very comfortable and seems to work well. I hope I get the other unit soon and it works out ok. Verdict is still out.

I can no longer recommend ihear medical hearing aids.  They say they are equivalent to more expensive ones but they can NOT be reimbursed by ANY medical insurance simply because ihear REFUSES to provide a code that describes the hearing aid as digital behind the ear.  I went back and forth between my insurance, the proscribing audiologist and ihear.  And in the end everyone cooperated except ihear who refused to provide the CPT code: (behind the ear vs in the ear/digital vs analog).  If I had purchased hearing aids from my audiologist, my insurance would have reimbursed $1000 of the cost, but instead I was out of pocket for the entire bill.  Goodbye ihear. You lost this customer because THEY can't hear their customers.
