Oticon Alta Reviews

Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome ... Continue reading

They hear pretty well, though I still have problems in noisy environments. I've had to repair the aids a couple times now. Last time they couldn't fully repair one of them and they can't be fully adjusted properly, so I'm shopping for a new set.

First pair of HA's. 5 year warranty period is almost up and based on recent check-up the HA's are working perfectly but I am starting to experience decreased battery life. I used to get 8 - 9 days out of a battery now it's more like 7. I have only had to send one HA to be repaired, about 2 1/2 years ago. The only other issues I have had has been occasional issues with moisture blocking the sound.

Bought the hearing aids off eBay, programmed myself with the Oticon Genie program, to the recommended settings for my hearing loss. I'm buying replacement receivers of the internet also. Receivers are the weak point, seem to break or fail every 4-6 months. Using 100db receivers due to my severe hearing loss. Doing it myself due to the high pricing of the local audiologists, plus a pain to set up and wait on appointments.

Always wear them Do not leave them in the drawer. Im ready for new ones now as the 4 year guarantee has expired and the hearing aids that connect automatically with the iPhone via Bluetooth are on the market. Up till now I've used a Streamer on a daily basis.

I recently trialed the Costco Brio 2 for two months and have now ordered the Resound Forte 8 RIE with the size 13 battery. My Oticon Altas were not good in noisy environment and had minor feedback issues.

The hearing aids choice that I made was, not only because I had bad hearing, but also because I wanted small hearing aids that virtually were invisible to others. My choice meets bot my expectations perfectly.

Great for the first 18 months Since then, lots of repairs, Very poor in noisy settings. Send back to manufacturer twice. Very expensive initially. Bought because I have Mennieres and speech tones are my greatest loss. Quite disappointed

They feel great in my ears and took very little time to get used to. They are absolutely undetectable. Unless I tell people I am wearing them they have no idea. Easy to put in and take out and clean. Very reliable. Great for conversations and TV etc. Very disappointed for loud noisy areas like restaurants, bars, concerts, receptions. Actually I take them out as it is slightly better without them. Other than this I wear them about 14 hours every day.

I've been wearing these hearing aids for about 4 years now. They've been fantastic. Before, I had a pair of Phonak Naidas, which were considered "ultra-powered" hearing aids, but these Alta Pros are less powered and have a significantly smaller profile so that they aren't as noticeable, but they perform much better than my Naidas. I found that these provided more clarity, which was much more helpful for me. Before, I could not use speakerphone and now I can actually understand what people are saying through video chats as well. In terms of my level of hearing loss, I have a severe-to-profound loss, mostly in the higher frequencies. I think the Alta Pro has been excellent in compensating for my loss. On the phone, I actually don't use these too much though. Most of the time, I find myself taking off my hearing aid and then pressing my iPhone as close to my ear as possible, and cranking up the volume all the way.

Firstly, I am a longtime user with a moderate-severe loss, and have previously worn both Phonak and high-end Oticon BTEs. I wanted to switch to CICs not because of vanity or anything, but because of sweat. I've always found that whenever I work out, or play sports I have to take the BTEs out do to sweat running down my head. With these new CICs that is not a problem at all. I originally stuck to the high-end, with the Alta Pros, but unfortunately I had to send them back because of some performance issues with the left one. In that time, my Aud encouraged me to try the slightly less advanced, but considerably cheaper Altas. I did notice some difference, especially the adjustments made in loud environments. However as a young (early 20s) user, this wasn't enough to push me to spend the extra money on the Alta Pros. For an older user though, I can definitely see the benefits of the Alta Pro's programming. Unfortunately, I had to send the Streamer back. I previously had the older generation Streamer with my Epoq pros, and while it generally worked ok, the negatives (poor battery life, long delay to turn on and off, size, necessity of being in ridiculously close proximity to the HAs) prevented me from using it all that much. All of those problems still exist with the new Streamer, plus others. The new CIC line is the first to be wireless and able to use the Streamer, but its almost like Oticon did no real world testing whatsoever. If i connect my streamer and play music through my phone to my HAs (the iPhone app is pretty decent, except it can only play through Music, no Spotify or anything), it works only if my head is perfectly still. If you move your head to look at something, or even just lift your head from reading, the sound cuts out momentarily and drives you mad. Very disappointing, and I know that others have had that same problem. TL;DR Oticon's new Alta and Alta Pro CICs are pretty great, but the gimmicky Streamer's performance does not make it worth purchasing at all. Other notes: -if you ask your Aud, you can get a black faceplate on the CICs, instead of the awful flesh colour -the battery life on these is better than advertised. I usually get 6 days out of them -once you're used to them, the CIC is far more comfortable than molds or RIC domes -you have to have a fair bit of dexterity to handle these little guys comfortable, however I've seen a lot of older people with BTEs that don't fit properly or aren't worn properly. So while that may be something to consider, I don't think it should throw older HA wearers off automatically.

I doubt you'll respond being that your review is three years old but are you still wearing the Oticon Alta's? My husband is the one who wears hearing aids and he swears by Oticon. He tried another brand before the Oticon's he has now and was miserable. He is in the market for another pair as his are 7 years old but it doesn't seem like Oticon has release anything since the Alta and Alta Pro. Anyways, I just wanted to know if you're still wearing your Alta's and how they have held up? Thanks!

Generally, a robust, nice hearing aid that works very reliably and well. I cannot hear human voice without hearing aids. These aids work great at enabling me to have a pretty regular hearing experience at work and home. So that is impressive power! One other brand I tried recently, Phonak, did not work for me: human voices (mine included) sounded like aliens and not human voices for some reason. I have been very satisfied with Resound analog hearing aids in the past. These Oticon hearing aids enable me to hear better in noisy environments than folks without hearing aids. Music quality is so-so. A little annoying: the sound cancellation that occurs after a sudden (clapping, key clinking, leaf rustling) sound occurs. I think my old Resound analog hearing aids worked about as well and did not have this annoying feature of digital noise reduction programming. On the plus side, the noise reduction feature is helpful for preserving hearing! I find that radio intelligibility can be improved by turning down volume of hearing aids and increasing volume of radio.

I am very satisfied with my new Oticon Alta hearing aids. I do a lot of volunteer work so am on the phone quite a lot and attend meetings throughout the month. In the past several months I have had difficulty hearing, both on the phone and in the meetings, but with the Oticon Alta, this has all improved and I am very comfortable at these meetings. Also, I dance once a week and I find that the music is neither too soft or too loud and am able to carry on a conversation with others when the music is playing.

I just purchased new aids (less than a month ago) and regret it has been ten years since I have purchased new ones. They already show great differences from the old ones and I am hearing on my cell phone for the first time! It is important to realize that aids are technology and technology has improved greatly over time. My advice to others is to always advocate and be on the look out for new and better devices to help you hear.

These hearing aids are an improvement over my last set (Oticon Agil) because I can get more distinct speech, and less of the whistling sound. Not perfect in a noisy room, but a little better than before. The battery life is what I expected.

One of my wife's Alta Pro's periodically and spontaneously plays a seven-tone tune and, also, periodically just doesn't function at all. That must be a signal but she doesn't know what it is. Any Suggestions?

These hearing aids are my first, at 68 years of age. I really didn't realize how many sounds I wasn't hearing until I started using my new Oticon Alta 2 Pro aids. Plus, all my friends and family don't sound like they are "mumbling" anymore!

I had Oticon Vigo BTE hearing aids with multiple problems before I got my Alta2 Pro miniRITE. Imhave profound hearing loss so I have receivers molded to my ear canal. The plastic on both receivers has cracked. They were sent to the factory and repaired. Now the left side cracked again after 7 months. The right side has lost volume two times. It is being returned to the factory for repairs. I have had Siemans and another brand I have forgotten the name with zero problems. My Alta Pros are just one year old. I will never buy Oticon again.
