A built-in hearing aid telecoil is required to pick up audio broadcasted by hearing loops. Hearing loops are often installed in auditoriums and other meeting places.
If you currently struggle to hear dialog on the TV, and want to hear it better, this should be an important consideration.

Landline telephones are standard phones that plug into your wall at home. The handset may be wired or wireless.
Mobile phones are any phones that operate over a cellular network (away from home).
There are accessories available that can stream a caller's voice directly to your hearing aids. However, only some hearing aids are compatible with such accessories.
There are smartphone apps that can stream a caller's voice directly to your hearing aids. Solutions exist for iPhone, Android, and most new Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.
Hands-free calls are possible with hearing aids, but in some case an additional accessory may be required.

Some hearing aids use rechargeable hearing aid batteries, and may be recharged at night for the next day's use. If you have poor manual dexterity or poor vision, it may be easier to manage rechargeable hearing aids as there's no need to replace batteries.

Some hearing aids are more reliable than others. While a manufacturer warranty may cover necessary repairs, sometimes dealing with repairs can become burdensome.
If you spend a lot of time in wet or humid environments, or perspire heavily, water resistance should be an important consideration.
If you spend a lot of time in dusty environments, dust resistance should be an important consideration.

Most modern hearing aids adjust the volume automatically based on your environment. How important is overriding this with manual controls?
Some hearing aids may be adjusted remotely. This means that your hearing provider may adjust your hearing aids from their office whilst you are at home. Consider this if your hearing provider is far away, or leaving the home is difficult for you.
