My HA’s (Audéo R-70) were fantastic in the beginning when they were new but almost 4 years later I cannot hear soft voices. I miss beginning sounds of some words. In restaurants or when little kids in classrooms I’m subbing for the background noise creates a conflict. I feel I must read lips now and before I had HA’s. My parents, my sister and grandmother wear/wore hearing aids. My audiologist has sent my HA’s in for repair twice and the last time for cleaning. I’ve gone for a hearing test and had lost some hearing. 😟 These we’re suppose to last 5-6 years. For $4,000  I’m wondering!!

My second set of hearing aids. Phonak Audéo Q 50 was the first. I got a Phonak Audéo Marvel p30 rechargeable .This is a better aid with more bells and whistles but some things just don't work and are annoying. Had to turn  of my text/email notifications off because the ding was so loud it would throw me across the room even my dop jumped when i got a text .The sound on phone calls is distorted so i have to turn down the volume when i get phone calls. I had the tinnitus generator on my old ones i could turn on and off. These new ones the generator can only be turned on or off by my audiologist. I would like to turn it on and off myself. I don't like to use it all time so this sucks. Got a new phone and the Bluetooth  headphones icon on my phone just  disappeared so i never know if i can get phone call to the hearing aids with Bluetooth never sure if its on or off.Overall i am happy with these hearing aids.

The battery runs off within ten hours even without using any of the streaming features.

I bought them four months ago, and have sent them back for battery problems twice already.

On more than three occasions the batteries in both have drained off by six pm.

I was recommended and sold the M70. I do not use the TV and phone Bluetooth connections more than an hour a day.

The 2-star is based on bluetooth technology outdoors. I walk my dogs every day and bike ride. I was super excited to use these for streaming sound/phone calls while outdoors. BUT if the phone is in my pocket or backpack the connection is so intermittent it will cut in /out 10+ times during one song. I reached out to Phonak customer support and they confirmed "the hearing aid signal is not strong enough to detect the phone so it will cut in and out". Their solution was to hold the phone, which is not a solution while walking dogs or on a bike. I wish I would have known this limitation prior committing to this brand. My sister has 4+ yr old Resound hearing aids from Costco and has no issues with the bluetooth connection with the phone in her pocket during outdoor activities.

I could not have had a more disappointing experience. The concept was great but the bluetooth connection on the phone was crackly at best. Most often I could not hear the person at the other end of the line and it cut in and out. I have other hearing aids with a blue tooth that hangs around my neck and it works perfectly so I know it isn't the phone. I suspect that this was designed for an iPhone and I use android so they didn't read one another. My audiologist called the company help line numerous times and their advice wasn't applicable (eg) answer the phone on the hearing aid not the phone. This didn't take into account that I experienced the line cutting out when I joined conference calls. It was beyond frustrating. Furthermore, when they were returned to the company they said they worked fine. what a frustratuing ecxperience!

Not much to dislike - although I do still find some people hard to hear, I tend to think that is inevitable.

Hello you mentioned some folks hard to hear would they be higher frequency individuals  like many women ? I read recently that phonak has the ability to convert high to low frequencies does your aid do that ?

The Phonak Marvel R90 is the one I chose after trialing two other brands. In all cases I compared the top model for each brand. I found the Marvels to have the overall best balance in performance and features, e.g., connectivity options especially with the Phonak Roger Select iN. A couple of times I ran out of battery power during very long days at conferences. I discovered that the loud noise program drains the batteries much faster therefore needed to remember to go back to the AutoSense program as soon as I was no longer in a loud noise environment. I really prefer the rechargeable capability.

I have the Phonak Marvel 90 13s, to be very honest I don’t really have anything critical to say about these Aids...... although perhaps these marvels are slightly underpowered for my loss(BLSNHL in the Severe/Profound threshold) at the time of purchase they were as powerful as I could get, I believe they now have the Nadia Marvel........ Perhaps next year I will go for a set of the New Paradise aids if they produce a Nadia version? All in all these aids are brilliant......

I went deaf in March 2020 when friends were target practicing with guns. I had some hearing loss previously from loud music, concerts, etc. I got my hearing aids a month later.  I can hear one-on-one voices when they are facing me but music is off key, wrong pitch. I miss music the most. I still must used closed caption on TV to understand what is being said. Still sad.

Let me say this is my third pair of hearing aids, (second Phonak brand). My current Audeo M90-RT model I purchased new a year ago. Had to return to factory twice now for replacements.  Lost programming I paid an audiologist for, had to pay for loading programming again.  Also, Phonak did a software update a couple of months ago that wiped out everyone's phone app programming.  My audiologist said everyone was pretty mad about that.

Additionally, the newly returned hearing aides, when updated with my old programming that was perfected, does NOT process the programming the same, so now I have to Pay a third time to have all the programming redone.

Not sure I would purchase rechargeables again, as when they don't charge or need to be rebooted, you have to wait for the recharge, and when you have to go to work and your hearing aid or aids aren't working it's a real problem.  Luckly I have a pair of battery backups to use if necessary, and so far they have been very necessary with this PHONAK brand. I cannot recommend Phonak to anyone, especially how they've responded to problems.  Per them, it's not their problem, go see your audiologist.

I have had a pair of Phonak Marvel Audeo M90 for over a year. Very clear sound and no feedback. Had an accident 2 days ago when in adjusting my garden pond netting I fell in.

I lost my left hearing aid. Luckily 16 hours later the following morning I found it.I dried it out put new filter and battery in and it now works first class That is an example of how good the aids are. Only thing which needs improving is the  Phonak smart phone app which is not as good as Resound which offers more facilities.

I rarely give a 5.  I have the rechargeable and like not having to fiddle with batteries.  I have had them almost 3 months and only once changed the filters though I think that was in-ear wax.

I like their comfort and that they are discrete. I like the App which i use of an evening watching TV with others talking too.

Aids took my speech recognition up a step from the Belong platform.

The hands free phone call function is really nice.

The Roger iN products are very nice but the added expense of the program key is out of line.

The rechargeable versions are nice. Battery life has been good even with hours of streaming.

Nice aids.

I couldn't care less about all the Bluetooth features. Don't need them. I like the TV Connector. Phonak got that right. I don't like the whole Roger licensing thing. They should just work with any Roger device right out of the box. Battery life seems short, even with size 13 batteries. I should have gotten rechargeables. Other than requiring a different programming device, they are about the same as the Belong series.

Hearing aids provided by VA

Like ability to stream phone calls, music podcast etc to aids. Performance of hearing aid mics on phone calls (iPhone) are not reliable. Sometimes others can hear me just fine but most of the time person on other end says “you are breaking up”. Quality of phone call in my ears is very good.

Like water resistance. Gotten in shower with them a couple of times and had them rained on but no damage.

I don't like AutoSense OS 3.0 sound. It sounds like a blown speaker and has a tinny sound. Hearing aids some times make a rattling sound when around machine sounds such as a window A/C. Rattling is just for a few seconds then goes away. Hearing in noise is difficult or impossible.

Can’t use them for talking on phone because whoever I’m talking to hears nothing but background noise. Instead I have to take them out and put on my blue parrot headset. It’s terrible. But possibly it’s because I have a lower end model. I’m so happy to hear but I just could not afford the ones I wanted even with insurance help. I couldn’t seem to find anyone/anyplace that could possibly give me a discount or any help with paying for them. Either way, I’m grateful to hear even if quality isn’t very good.

I have been wearing Oticon Spirit Synergy for the past 4-5 years, I have recently trialled Phonak Marvel 70 rechargeable, Phonak Bolero 70 312 and Widex Evoke 330 rechargeable and 312, I have trialled both the Phonak's and the Widex with my own moulds as well as different fittings from audiologist and nothing that I have trialled so far (2months now) has even come close to the overall hearing experience of my old NHS Oticon's.

The Phonak aids all seem to sound very underpowered and the Widex the opposite, none of them are as good as my Oticon's in any real life situation whether that be quiet or noisy environments, the so called smart technology fitted to the latest and greatest hearing aid offerings from Phonak and Widex just don't seem to work for me at all.

Very disappointed, underwhelmed and unimpressed with the experience so far as I was looking forward to gaining from the latest technology but sadly not to be, at least my bank balance will remain the same and not be a few thousand and some down, thank god for trial periods. If I had purchased any of these without the free trial period I would definitely be demanding a full refund. Extremely disappointed.

I have worn hearing aids for about 20 years. The Marvel M90 is my fourth hearing aid. My previous hearing aid was a Widex that required a streaming device that was worn around my neck. The Marvel 90 bluetooth connects directly to the hearing aid. I have the ear molds for my hearing aids. I tried the soft ear buds on another brand and did not think that they do as good of job as the molds.

I have severe hearing loss and cannot hear without the hearing aids. I had to return my original set for replacement due to a failure with one aid. Phonak replaced the set. While waiting for the replacements, I wore my Widex. During this period of time I realized how much better the Marvel90 was than the Widex.

The Marvel 90 does dot block the background noise as much as I would like , but is the best I have had with my other hearing aids. It has taken multiple visits to my hearing provider to get the programming fine tuned to get maximum benefit. I have worn about 3 months. I did not try the rechargeable because I am in situation where I do not always have power for re charging

This is the 2nd pair of Phonak aids I have had. The first pair are still going after 15 years, or so. These aids are much more advanced and better in most areas, however, in the last months I have been in noisier situations than normal, on several occasions and found them HOPELESS. The ambient noise factor seems to increase instead of decreasing and the person I'm trying to hear appears to drop down in level. My providers are excellent.

Try to use Roger in challenging listening situations such as restaurants. This is a way to increase SNR (speech/Noise ratio) up to 15 dB

This is my fourth set of hearing aids, my third set of Marvels. My last set was Widex. I chose the 13T with the replaceable batteries. I have no use for the re chargeable as many occasions I am not at a location where I do not have access to re charge. The Blue tooth for the phone works very well. However when in a tractor, the hearing aids pick up all of the engine noise. After the engine is shut down the call is very clear. I have had some quality issues with the hearing aids. I have had my provider send of for repair twice in the two months I have had them. I tested two other aids and settled on this aid. I have severe hearing loss and cannot hear any conversation without my hearing aids. This hearing aid is not perfect, but the best for me at this point. This is new technology for Phonak and I not sure they have perfected it as of this date

This is my second set of Phonak hearing aids, and the features have greatly improved. My only frustration is with the moisture blocking. I have only had these hearing aids for 6 months, and the seals seem to be fading already. I no longer use them for very sweaty activities, but yesterday after a hilly bike ride for a couple of hours, both aids had visible moisture drops on the batteries when I opened the battery doors. I'm wondering if others are having similar problems?

My overall score may seem strange in view of the other high scores. This is because currently I have no phone connectivity, streaming or access to the settings menu. my phone is on IOS 13 and now 13.1 on Apple's advice. No change. Phonak say there is an issue with the new Apple upgrade so if you have an iphone DO NOT upgrade to IOS 13 yet. My Phonaks are on trial and I shan't be buying them until this is resolved or may have to change to a different make. Big shame. Phonak engineers tell me they are talking to Apple.

Moving from my old, beloved but newly lost Phonak Audéo B90-R I at first loved everything about the Marvels R M90: the rechargability, the great new streaming functions, the smallness, the better domes, the app, everything. Except one for disastrous thing: the strange swirling sound distorsion of high midrange sounding music from instruments like violin, soprano sax, soprano singers, organ, piano and so on. Why, dear Phonak, why did you not continue to give us the absolutely lovely, linear, transparent and undistorted sound of the old B-series? As a life time musician, radio and music producer I could not pay for these Marvel machines and it makes me so sad. Everything else was just perfect! So now I have to decide whether to go back to a new/old pair of B90, or change mark to - probably -Oticon.
Kate
Oticon Opn S  dynamic range is 10K Hz. You will be benefited from it as a musician. The music program is what you will need to get a full ange of frequencies.

I've had them for about two months now and I would say they are okay. I do like the fact that phone calls can come through them directly, but when they do because of the way it's configured the mics pick up all the sound around me and the people I'm talking to cannot hear me unless I'm in a totally quiet environment. They said the wind noise when on the call almost completely made it unbearable and when I was in the store, the person on the phone only heard the people's conversations behind me to the point that they thought their phone calls with someone else. I contacted Phonak about this and asked them if there was a way to disable the rear microphones when a call came in so the other person on the call didn't hear everything else. Their response was these are supposed to work like conference room phones which is totally wrong the rear mics should be disabled. Only the front mics should pick up sound. I know they can do something because when I'm streaming my TV and I walk in and out of the room it muted the other sounds around me. For example, I was vacuuming and when I got within the streaming device it muted the vacuum to the point that I almost didn't hear it and all I could hear was the TV. Wind noise on these when I'm walking or driving in my car with the windows open is to the point that I have to take them out. Another thing I don't like about them is that what I'm eating I hear myself chewing and if I want to carry on a conversation at the dinner table I actually have to take them out of my ear which defeats the purpose of having a hearing aid. My audiologist has adjusted them as much as she can and it hasn't fixed or made the issue what I would call greatly improved. What I do like about them like is the direct phone call to them but I do not like the direct streaming audio. If I'm surfing on my phone all the sudden they are embedded videos the sound of the video kicks in muting the mics and I lose the conversation around me. I'm going to keep these for a little longer but I may be going back to my Oticons unless Phonak can fix these issues
Kate
Try to get an earmold which will solve alot of issues you wrote.

I'm still in my 2 week trail period. First time HA user. I am a 64 year old musician, so I am a lot pickier with sound in general. I find there's still some discomfort wearing them, but this can be remedied by my audiologist. As for reproducing sound, I can hear a bit clearer. I am getting a bit of distortion with general all around sound coming into the external built in mics. Audio streaming works quite well and sounds okay. The distortion is annoying since I have them turned down to minus 2 on the app, from the 0db level setting done by my audiologist. These do have a music program installed, but as I mentioned above, being a musician, it lacks, somewhat and doesn't have much improvement in the low frequency range. I have to remove my HA's when wearing studio headphones recording and editing music in my home studio. I have tinnitus and these HA's actually do mask it a bit. Now, if my audiologist can help to tune them a bit better to reduce or eliminate the distortion, I will consider keeping them. And the rechargeable battery feature is pretty cool too. If you are not a musician, I would recommend trying these particular devices out! PS: for my situation, I may have to try a different model or even a different brand of hearing aid.

I tried 3 name brand hearing aids in the past and returned them all since they did not help my understanding of speech and to some degree made it worse. These are the first to improve my speech recognition - substantially. Unfortunately this survey forced me to submit some ratings that are not applicable: -They Bluetooth the phone to my hearing aids so obviously that is an improvement that cannot be explained via the limited rating question - I did not buy them to improve music - They are rechargeable and therefore the battery life question is irrelevant

Too early to tell. I am new at this. Lost my hearing suddenly due to explosion. Can't hear music, just squawking. All voices sound like machine voices. I can hold a one on one conversation and can handle a telephone call through blue tooth on my android phone. Can't use land line phone. My audiologist is high on phonak. I have no idea whether I have the best hearing aids for me or just the most expensive. Had to dig deep into savings to get these. Don't know whether this is as good as I can get and will have to do without music permanently or whether some other brand might help. Am at a total loss and at the mercy of the audiologist since I have no idea how things are supposed to work or sound. My Marvel 70s are rechargeable and I have to wear the all waking hours so I wear them about 16 hours a day. The simple aids with the rubber caps (domes) are very comfortable and I forget I have them on. They wanted me to try with the ear molds but they were uncomfortable and the sound was awful. Too much feedback. Still have a few weeks on my trial and do not know whether I should try a different brand. I have apparently the best that phonak has to offer. My hearing is not very good. Cannot hold a three way conversation nor hear in crowds or with the tv on etc and I don't know whether I am stuck with this problem or if some other brand would work better.

Ask your audiologist if you can try a different brand. If they are not amenable to this, then change audiologists. You need to have something to compare it to.
Duane S
If you have enjoyed music in the past and you were either a musician, or you have a trained ear for music, the only way you will hear anything close to what you use to hear is via Probe Tube Measures. If your provider didn't perform this procedure, your aids are assuredly either over amplified or under-amplified or probably both depending on the frequency. Measuring sound at the eardrum takes into account the unique acoustic qualities of your ear canal. Ears are unique concert halls (i.e. Shey Stadium vs Carnegie Hall). Often a prescriptive fit is not comfortable for new users since it thrusts you back into a world of sound you haven't experienced in decades. However, all aids have acclimatization technology to slowly reintroduce you to the sounds in music you once enjoyed. Many providers have no experience with music or hearing loss themselves. I recommend finding a provider who performs REAL Ear Prescriptive fitting on every client, is or was a musician, and wears hearing aids themselves.
Professional Member

Overstated and old school, you can try REM on others' fitting, not always much different <5dB anyway.

Further, if you matched targets on REM, many may not like your prescription. So, why do something then undo it?"

If REM is the best you can do, you need to ask what your clients really want.

These hearing aids are okay but not so marvelous. I trialed Resound LinX 3Ds previously and think they worked better for me. The Phonaks clarity in quiet is quite good. Restaurants are still challenging. Landline phones are terrible. I have to increase the volume on the phone in order to hear. Noise reduction is not as good as the Resounds. Telecoil at the theater made little to no difference. The sound kept changing as the orchestra played various parts and not always for the better. I think I understood about half of the show. The Bluetooth works well but is a real hassle to switch between devices. I’m an iPhone user so Android connectivity does not matter to me. I think I will be returning these as my trial time is nearly up.

This is my first experience with hearing aids. They are comfortable, small, significantly improve my hearing, and have lifestyle options such as Bluetooth streaming for music and phone that really improve quality of life. I am fortunate that I was able to find a very good price, and with my company insurance was able to afford the 70's. No downside so far.

Just picked these up a few days ago over my current NHS ones (UK). These HA's are great for taking calls on the phone and listening to music etc, in fact anything to do with the smart phone is truly a great experience. However given that these are meant to be top of the range / state of the art HA's they actually performed worst in pubs & restaurants etc or anywhere that was noisy over my existing free NHS aids. I'm hoping other members on this site will be able to tell me how to correct this with the AuD.

These are my first HA's. I chose them because I liked the idea of being able to use them for everything I would normally use earbuds/phones for, including music, audiobooks and TV. They're great for watching TV with the included TV connector box but Bluetooth is pretty flakey for everything else. I can't go for a walk and have my (Android 9) phone in my pocket. If I want to hear uninterrupted music I have to hold the phone in my hand. Also, if I'm anywhere near a free WiFi hotspot in the city, it interferes with the Bluetooth connection. The HA's have allowed me to hear the "highs" again, which helps me quite a lot with speech. I can even hear leaves rustling and grass crunching under my feet. I don't really understand all the technical stuff about them but my Audiologist included some extra programs with them - Music 1, Speech in Loud Noise and Tinnitus. I don't really notice any difference to the auto program when using the added programs. I find that overall, there is a slightly "tinny" aspect to everything. This is fine though because, tinny or not, I can hear things I couldn't hear before I got the HA's.

So far so good but Phonak does not perform well in noisy situations. Its has good points and some bad points but autosense seems to cover most of the basis. If you want to make a lot of adjustment on your phone - the Marvel is not for you. Its pretty much hands off and just wear where ever you go.

I'm new to wearing aids. I'm only 56. I didn't know what I was missing out on until I began using them. I can make sense of and follow along and even join in conversations at my desk 1 on 1, in a meeting with several people in the discussion, in a restaurant with music playing and people all around while being engaged with the people at my table. My hearing issue ranged from normal to moderate. I hope to enter my sixties a bit more in tune with life and with the people I daily have in my life. The hearing aids, rechargeable, last all day. I average 14 hours and that includes hearing, streaming music, taking on the phone. My advice is if you are having hearing/conversing issues then try these out. If they don't live up to my experience then shoot the messenger. :)

Hearing Aids are a vast improvement on my old ones which were 6 years old. The Bluetooth streaming to my laptop computer is now as smooth as i expected with some intermittant dropping out of the audio signal. I will check to see if this is just the program on the computer that i am using or the hardware on the laptop. I was able to par my Marvels with my Ipad and my Samsung S8 phone with no problems and answering calls on my Samsung was very easy and the clarity was a vast improvement to what I had previously. Currently in a 60 day trial with the Marvels.

I'm a first user. I've got my HA last week. So I'm rather inexperienced with HA and I can't really compare the Phonak Marvels with other HA. The Phonak Marvels are very comfortable. There is no irritation. I'm still getting used to wearing an HA, so I can't tell much about the improvement of the Hearing lost yet. But I do find it annoying already that I can not select the manual programs myself, and that I can not fine tune the manual programs myself. I would really advise Phonak to invest in an App that would give the user control wrt the installed manual programs and the fine tuning of the installed programs.

I’ll double down on giving users the tools to adjust, tweak or refine the programming for each of the settings in our HA’s.  Some of us, probably a lot more than the hearing aid manufacturers and audiology believe,  are eager to gain the tools (software) to do our own adjustments.

I've had 3 different hearing aids in the last 6 - 7 years. The first pair I got at Costco. I bought the Resound hearing aids. I hated them. I remember asking a person 3 times the same question because I couldn't understand him. Later when I replaced them with the Phonak Audeo Q, I went back to the same person and asked my question again. I heard him with no problem. With the Resound everything seemed shrill and distorted. I got those in Taiwan. By the way, the Costco Taiwan audiologist lied to me about the hearing aids. She said there was no difference between the Resound and Phonak, except the cost..Later an audiologist at Costco Taiwan said that wasn't true. There was a difference in quality. I was told by a US Costco Hearing Aid Center employee to take them back. I finally got a full refund a year after I got the Phonak Audeo Q hearing aids. Everyone agrees that I should just buy a new pair because they were 4 years old. The hearing aid center has given me a demo to try and WOW what a difference with the Marvel M90s. I told my friends to talk at their natural volumn and they were very happy. The difference in TV sound is like night and day. Today I could hear soft speaking people all around a big round table with no problem. I'm so happy with these that I'm buying my own pair ASAP!

These aids are absolutely brilliant for mobile phone conversation....... in a very noisy situation I am always going to struggle given my level of loss, but hopefully with a little tweaking this may improve? They are very comfortable to wear and I actually forget they are there, for those who feel concealment is an issue then these aids are very difficult to spot as they are tiny...... In all truth I would wear hearing aids the size of 2 bananas if I thought it would improve my hearing..... cheers Kev :-)

I'm a 60 year old woman and I've worn hearing aids for the past 25 years. This is my first pair of Phonak. I have had Starkey, Resound, and Siemens in the past. This pair of Phonak Marvel 90 rechargeable has changed my life! I have worn them for over a month. I wanted to wait until I had worn them in every environment imaginable before I reviewed them. First, I can pair with my Samsung Galaxy. I used to have to use a Siemens easyTEK to connect with my phone and television. It is a big disk-like device worn like a necklace around your neck. I rarely used it because it was awkward and uncomfortable to wear. Now I just turn on bluetooth on my phone and I'm ready to go all day long. For the first time I can work out to music while at the gym because I can stream from my phone right to my hearing aids. I didn't know what I was missing! The sound quality for phone calls is nothing short of amazing. I used to subscribe to voice mail to text through my cellular carrier because I could never hear my voice mail if I missed a call. That saves me a few $$ a month and I can hear my voice mail perfectly. I have used a Siemens tv connector for many years, so I purchased the Phonak connector to go with these hearing aids. My eyes about popped out of my head the first time I heard it. It has Dolby, and the sound is phenomenal. I'm someone who enjoys watching television a little too much, so I probably qualify as an expert in this area. I highly recommend it. Comfort--I have severe hearing loss in both ears and have always been told I needed custom molds. I went to a different audio this time because I moved to a different state. He just had me wear Phonak domes straight out of the package. I was skeptical, but I have had absolutely no feedback since using them. The whistling, squealing, annoying sounds I used to get sometimes with custom domes are gone. You know how on a really windy day you can get that awful wind noise? I don't anymore. Even better, these domes are much more comfortable than my custom domes. I can hardly tell I'm wearing them. Rechargeable--This is the first time I've had rechargeables, and boy do I LOVE them! I used to carry batteries everywhere. I'd have a package in the car, one in my purse, in my gym bag--everywhere. Ever tried to change a tiny hearing aid battery in a kayak in the middle of a river or lake? Not easy. It's so nice to not have to worry about having batteries on hand. The rechargeable batteries have been more than adequate. I don't do a ton of streaming, but I can go to the gym for an hour (streaming music) and watch several hours of television if I want to and still have 60% left over at the end of the day. (I wear them approximately 16 hours a day). I saved the best for last. How do they sound? AMAZING! Sound quality is superb. The sound is natural, not just amplified. Speech recognition is vastly improved. I have a much easier time hearing what people are saying to me, which saves me the embarrassment of having to ask them to repeat themselves. Hearing in loud environments is a lot less challenging. The first week I had them my husband and I went to a noisy brew pub one evening. A loud band was playing. My husband asked me to repeat myself several times because he had trouble hearing, but I could hear him just fine over all the noise. That's a first! I can easily hear conversation, and even the radio while riding in the car. This is amazing. The reason I can hear better in what used to be difficult situations is Phonak's autosense. Autosense automatically adjusts to fit your listening environment, so a word about that. The first time I experienced autosense it surprised me. I have a fireplace at home that has a fan on it. I live in a cold climate, so most of the winter the fan is near-constant background noise. My husband started talking, and the hearing aids suppressed the sound of the fan and I could hear what was being said to me. Same with talking on the phone with Bluetooth. As soon as your call connects, background noise is suppressed, allowing you to hear clearly on the phone. The same is true with the tv connector. Background noise is suppressed and you can hear your tv program. Now I don't have to turn off the fireplace fan to hear the television. You will still be able to hear background noise in all these situations, but it will be greatly reduced. I can see how these automatic adjustments may bother some people. The aids tend to focus on sound coming at your face, so if someone is talking to you from behind, you may need to turn around to hear them clearly. This may be remedied by having the audio add a special program to your hearing aid. It's not that bothersome to me, but it's something to keep in mind. A word to those having problems with their earing aids. First of all, give them time. It may take awhile for your brain to adjust to them. As someone who has worn hearing aids for many years, I give my brain time to process the new sounds it is hearing, and so far it hasn't failed me. I also believe that any discomfort or hearing aid problems can probably be corrected by a good audiologist. Don't be afraid to try different domes, and please, if you're having trouble hearing, ask your audiologist to adjust or add additional programs to your hearing aids. Any audiologist worth his salt should be happy to do this!

Joni!  Thank you so much for your detailed review!  I have been wearing hearing aids for about 11 years, just wrapping up my 3rd pair.  HearingLife (formerly ListenUp) has been pinging me to come in, but I have always gone there and have always ended up with Oticons.  They have been fine, but I saw a promo on Facebook from Connect Hearing about the Phonak Marvel and they really do sound awesome.  I have made an appointment for next week so interested to see what my options are.  Thanks for all your great input. :)
Joni F

You're very welcome! I was lucky enough to find an audiologist who let me demo different brands. The first pair I tried was an Oticon, which I didn't like at all. It sounded like I was in a tunnel. Then I tried the Marvels and there was no comparison. If you haven't already seen Cliff Olson's video about the Marvels, check it out. Dr. Cliff has a lot of other great videos covering all kinds of hearing-related subjects. If you get the Marvels, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. They changed my life!

Excellent comments. I'm researching hearing aids for my husband. I recently switched him to an Android phone from an iPhone and losing the ability to hear his phone calls has been a real loss since he's wearing ReSound HAs from 2017. We have a Resound TV Streamer too so it looks like we'll now be getting a Phonak streamer if we do end up with the Audeo Marvel R/M90's.

Joni F, Thank you!

Marvel 90s default programming sounds great when the dome is seated in my ear. I've only had them a week and the receivers are constantly breaking seal or causing pain that is a kin to what I'd imagine an ice pick would feel like in my ear. I have 3 programs besides the default and the bluetooth streaming. They too sound nice. I got t-coil because I felt I missed it in my last HA. It seems to work well and I'm glad I got it even if the aids are slightly larger with it. I selected a disposable battery model because I can't risk being with out my HA because of a dead battery. I Listen to audio books 5-10 hours a day. The batteries lasted 4 days (over a weekend where I listen to books significantly more). Streaming audio sounds as good, if not better than the iPhone earbuds sound to me. The devices themselves seem more durable than my last HAs. I have a severe, cookie bite hearing loss. My day-to-day listening environments are hugely varing and extreamly dynamic, but nothing that requires finite, precise hearing as a musician or sound artist requires. My last aids were Audeo IX 90s and these are a great improvement. The receivers never sealed on those either - my previous audi said I would get used to the ice pick "sensation". They were 10 years old when I retired them for the Marvels. UPDATE: I've updated my ratings to reflect my experiences with Marvel. I'd initially downgraded the fitting and comfort of the HA to a one star, however this is a user/audi issue at this point and the one star unfairly reduced the overall rating. I have come to figgure out that the audi has the recievers fit with a competitors power domes whilst the phonaks are on order. this would be fine if they didn't feel like ice picks in my ears.

PROS: The review is for the Marvel 312 M90's which I have been wearing for about a month now. I should say that I am an Android user and the majority of my use with them ranges from either quiet environments to loud restaurants or in-car with road noise. -First, with regards to connectivity, these are spectacular and just so intuitive. I was skeptical about losing my ReSound app, but I don't even mess going into the app since having my REMs done with these aids. It is just unnecessary to make any changes or adjustments due to the "AutoSense" feature. However, if you feel the need to change the programming and go to the app, I have had no issues connecting between calls, the TV connector, back to a phone notification via Bluetooth, my car's Bluetooth, without having to physically DO anything at all after connecting the first time. I stream a lot and use Bluetooth a lot, but can get 5-6 days of life out of my batteries. -The upgrade for me has reduced feedback almost 100%, I don't know how, but it is true. I could try really hard to get some maybe, but not even a beanie or my screaming nephew will trigger feedback like I used to get. -I am new to Phonak and am pleasantly surprised by the domes, they are a unique shape compared to the ReSounds, almost inverted, look at some pictures to compare. This smooth shape has helped me, again I don't know how with a reduction in discomfort. Previously, the only solution was to wear the tiniest domes, plus anchors, it was a lot of hassle. CONS: -There is a weird downside to always being connected to Bluetooth when you get an incoming call, you stop "hearing" and then only hear the incoming notification. In other words, it is like shutting off your hearings aids for a split second, which is a bit eerie depending on your level of hearing loss and depending on where you are when your call/text comes in. This is unlike listening to music when you stream music or a video you can set the level of outside "hearing" you want to allow in (a really neat feature right?). -It could just be me, but I can't connect using the app to my Apple Ipad Air 2. I know there is a new Ipad, but the one I have works fine. It would be nice to connect to all my devices, and in case this is a selling point for someone I just want to put it out there. But, maybe by the time you buy yours, Phonak will have resolved.

When are we going to be able to pair our apple series 4 watch to our oticon opn 1 hearing aids? It is worthless trying to make and receive calls.

I’ve only had my M90s for just 3days, still getting used to them changed from B90s. I was given very information by specsavers, on their operation, no info on the volume control which appear to be separate on both ears, nor can I find any help on the internet on this, can anyone advise how these are operated and what the signals refer to please. At the moment it’s all trial and error.
Bill D
The volume can be changed with the programming software. You dispenser/Audiologist needs to go in and change the settings to allow for volume.

Bluetooth connectivity to multiple phones is very difficult.
Bill D
you can change from one phone to another by : turn off aids. turn your Bluetooth on your phone for searching and then turn aids back on. Within about 30 seconds they will connect.

These hearings aids just works! The sound quality is the best I have experienced in any hearing aids (have worn hearing aids for the last 15 years). I wear them all day and whether it is noiy or quiet the sound is really, really good. I use them with my phone and listen to music and podcasts and use them for phone calls and telcos. I was surprised how good music sounds. I have had other devices that can stream but this is a whole new level and what has surprised me the most. For the first time I feel like I am not missing out.

A good overall outcome. To get the best result, invest in the TV Connector too, as it wirelessly transmits sound direct to the aids. The app helps in simplifying change of programs or volume as the buttons on the aids are a bit fiddly. The app however can be inconsistent in that it disconnects after three minutes and re-connection is unreliable. The mute button for some reason only affects one aid - you have to mute each one separately. That seems an unusual design feature. However volume and program changes on either aid's buttons affect both aids.

I've enjoyed reading through the reviews and I agree with just about everything everyone has said about the Marvels. I was recently fitted with a Marvel rechargeable M90 in my right ear. I considered the CROS option from Phonak because I'm single sided deaf / HoH but I wanted all the features on the Marvel and I've always used one aid so I stuck with this approach for now. I am trading up from a Resound Lynx2, which was a pretty good device. I had a number of issues with it though and the last speaker wire failure pushed me to get a new aid. Since I only wear one aid it's critical to me that it works at all times reliably. I'm a busy professional who depends 100% on a hearing aid. My Lynx2 failed whenever it got slightly damp. A new audi knew right away that it was a battery door problem and got it repaired thankfully but I spent a year and a half with it shutting off in rain, etc. Miserable. Then, the speaker wire cable that goes into the ear failed 4 times. Each time I got it replaced and eventually just bought them and replaced them myself, however of course the last incident it failed when I was out of town visiting my parents so I thankfully had my old old Oticon to get me through the weekend but it is very weak and I suffered badly. So, time to shop around. Obviously Resound wasn't my top pick. I saw a lot of buzz about the Marvel and I really liked what they offer with bluetooth (hereafter referred to as BT) to anything. It was a close pick from an Oticon OPN but I decided to try it. Here are my likes and dislikes. LIkes: - Ultimately what is most important is general improvement in hearing. On this front I am very pleased. Hearing in all situations, including the awful loud backgrounds situations has improved vastly. I'm amazed that the technology has improved so much over just a few years. I feel like the Lynx2 should (and did) do a reasonable job with this but I suffered immensely in noise and gave up on having any meaningful conversation in background noise at all. With the Marvel I am now taking attempts and participating in conversations in loud places and for the most part it is going well. I didn't think this would ever be possible again. It's worth it just for that alone. - TV Streamer. It works great. I like how it disconnects and re connects automatically when you walk in and out of your TV room area. At first I didn't but I've grown to like it. Note that you can also use a receiver / amplifier with 2 zones and use that for sound on your TV if you'd like an easier way to control the streaming of the streamer. I plug mine into Zone 2 and manually enable this on the receiver with the remote when I want to stream. I can actually hear the TV well enough to use the streamer now in most cases, which is again the first time I've been able to do so in years. - Music streaming from iPhone. At first I didn't realize the app has a slider volume button at the bottom that you can use to turn up or down the volume of the streamed music. If you turn this up it will reduce the external mic sound. This was a must for me as I had this with the Lynx2 and really wanted it with the Marvel. I even e mailed them and then stumbled across this feature and am so glad it's there. With this you can stream music in noisy places and just enjoy the beautiful music with noise cancellation going on. Works great and music sounds great. At first I though music sounded a little tinny but I think it's just a matter of getting used to it and playing with different sound output settings on your iPhone (bass booster, treble reducer, etc.). It sounds pretty darn good and I'm happy with it. - Rechargeable battery. About time. The size 13 battery would die on me always at the worst times. I'm on a lot of calls at work and hearing that maddening battery indicator was driving me nuts. I'd miss things that were being said because it lasted 10 seconds and then I had to find somewhere discreet to swap my battery out. I hated that. Now I am getting a full days use on the rechargeable battery and I love it. On some days with heavy streaming on calls it went down to 25% by bedtime so I am a little nervous that the battery will fail earlier as the recharge cycles wear through on it or worse the battery could fail which would result in sending it in for repair (again very tough for me since I'm 100% dependent on it) but I'm going to take a gamble with this and hope it works out. - Autosense 3.0. It is a little imperfect to be honest but it works well enough. By this I mean when I walk outside to a noisy street (I live in a major city) it filters out a lot of sound I might actually like to hear. Someone else commented on this too so I'm glad to know it's not just me. There are times when I feel like I'm not hearing the little things, like someone's foot steps or something. I am pretty sure there's a wide spectrum of sounds that the Marvel doesn't amplify. I think the tradeoff they've made is the algorithm focuses in on speech. It does this very well, and in fact if anyone is standing behind me I have trouble hearing it and as soon as I'm in front of them, ZOOM the sound is crystal clear. That could also be a setting my audi can fine tune a bit. I noticed that in my car I could hear my wife who was in the rear seat. Amazing. My audi showed me that speech in car is one of the auto sense settings. Works amazingly well. - Fit. The fit is just spectacular. The moniker for these devices seems to be "knocked it out of the park" and that is certainly true with the fit. I got a custom shell / mini shell fit. It fits in my ear perfectly and there is NO FEEDBACK even if I put my hand directly over my aid. I'm about -80db so this is simply amazing. Every other aid I've worn for the last 15 years would squeal and whistle at times uncontrollably, leaving me embarrassed, angry and resentful. No more. I can now wear a regular headset at work without feedback and hear well enough. This is just amazing. I was using the phone clip with the Lynx2 paired to my work phone and it worked, but people always complained about echo whenever I spoke. Every single time and again it was embarrassing. It was the only way I could do hands free calls. Dislikes: - Bluetooth. This isn't Phonak's fault, but Bluetooth basically still sucks. Like others, I was excited to be able to pair my Marvel to anything. I learned over the course of several days of trial and error that the Marvel only tolerates being paired to one thing at a time. You can get by being paired to your mobile phone and TV streamer and you shouldn't have any issues but if you pair it to something like your iPad or laptop you will need to turn Bluetooth off on your mobile phone and then I have found getting the Marvel to stream again to the mobile (iPhone in my case) requires me to delete and re pair the Marvel to my iPhone. It's a real pain and I'm not happy about it but it's the basic limitations of Bluetooth. I've decided that I really only want to stream from my iPad when I travel, so if I'm on a flight and happily streaming i'm willing to fiddle with my connection when I land to get it back to my iPhone. This doesn't happen that often so it's worth it. - The app. The app does what you need it to do but not much else. I'm much happier with it now that I've discovered it has a sound slider bar when streaming to reduce outside noise and this works great but it would be nice to have more features. That's about it, folks. Not much not to like on these things! I am looking forward to the remote tuning capabilities that should be available from my audi sometime soon. That sounds pretty slick. I am also looking forward to it being compatible with the Roger systems later this year, although I've never been a huge user of these peripherals. I'm told it should work amazing and I believe it though. I like to set it and forget it. It is unfortunate that you have to spend an arm and a leg to get all the premium features of this or any modern hearing aid. That's the world of capitalism we live in though. I hope my review helps you evaluate whether or not it's worth it. Remember you can always return it to any qualified dispenser during the trial period. Cheers to better hearing!!

This is a great review. Thank you. I would watch out for updates from Phonak regarding bluetooth connections.  There is a possibility that some of these issues - connecting/reconnecting - may be ironed out. I am not a phonak sympathiser, but just observing some of the comments on the main forum of this site. Clearly, your post demonstrates that there have been incremental changes to hearing aids and particularly speech in noise, which is really good news.
William N

Since you pay close attention to detail, I wanted to ask you a question about my experience with my Audeo M90 312 HA's. I have noticed what I would call a "white noise" or even maybe a "static" noise from both my Left and Right HA's when I am traveling in my Tacoma PU truck (with windows up) and inside big box stores like Lowe's or Costco etc I get that white noise generated by my HA's. I've brought it up to my Audi, and she has even reached out to a Phonak specialist, but so far the white noise hasn't gone away.

Do you know what I'm talking about and do you get that in your M90's?

Thanks. Bill

Carolee
I get it too.  Can’t figure out when or why it comes.  Sometimes when I hang up from a call - or after hearing a book on line.  Disturbing.  I hope this can be fixed!

I picked up my Audeo Ms on New Years Eve (day) 2018. Unfortunately, I was restricted to using only the left one for a few weeks while I recovered from a right side ear infection. Since that infection, I am barely able to hear speech on the right side without assistance. However, once the aids are in there is not a problem. Generally, I put them in when I start my day and pretty much forget about them until I go to bed. I use the aids in conjunction with an LG G6. I have the remote app installed, but rarely use it except to check battery life. For Bluetooth streaming of audio they work very nicely. I'm more inclined to listen to old time radio than music--but that might be changing. These hearing aids seem to bring out frequencies that I've never heard before. It is wonderful that I no longer have to choose between wearing my hearing aids or my headphones! I can start playing one of my radio shows, put the phone in my pocket, and take my five mile walk without ever losing the signal. And I can still hear what's going on around me at the same time. Being able to make or take a call hands free, using the microphones of the hearing aids, is a huge plus. Granted, it gets me some interesting looks in the checkout line . . . The microphones seem to be very sensitive. My sister tells me that, when I talk to her using this feature, she can hear everything going on around me. With this in mind I do recommend caution using this feature if you work in an area where confidential information is likely to be discussed in the background.

I am DELIGHTED and SURPRISED with how much I like my new Phonak Marvels because I DISLIKED and often did not wear my previous 2 pairs of hearing aids. The Marvels enabled my hearing and they have already changed the way I interact with others, especially the important ones like my wife and family. For MYSELF and MY LIFESTYLE I had four MUST HAVES in the order below: FIRST: Direct streaming from an ANDROID phone WITHOUT a streamer - CHECK SECOND: Rechargeable batteries - CHECK THIRD: Telehealth to enable remote audiology - WORK IN PROCESS May be complete by February 1 2019 FOURTH: good hearing especially speech in noise - CHECK Otosense 3.0 works very well. So far I have not tried them in a really noisy bar / restaurant DON'T adjust your Marvels just wear them and forget them like your glasses These are the hearing aids that I have waited 4 years for NEXT I want hearing aids for an really active lifstyle. (waterproof aids that can't fall off). Compared to what they accomplished with the Marvels my next 2 requests should be easy for Phonak

These aids were ordered with custom shells and perform as expected as far as receivers are concerned. These are rechargeable units, hence the one day battery life. I had Phonak Audeo Vs previously and will probably always be a Phonak fan since that set (they lasted over nine years with only one service repair by way of one receiver replacement for one side). Here's my hearing diary for reference when I go back to the audiologist: 1/18/2019 - Right off the bat, everything sound more crisp and less muddled - I feel more motivated to enunciate better (I can hear myself better?) - These aids feel like they have less occlusion (might be the smaller receivers and/or the technology works better to filter that "feel" out through the way the sound is transmitted. - Drove home with the windows opened. Noticed I could distinctively hear the blowers running at the carwash while waiting for the light next to it to change. - These aids switch seamlessly between normal hearing and Bluetooth. The problem with this is if I'm talking to somebody and I receive a call or my phone chimes, or whatever, the aids auto-switch over and then I can't hear the person I'm talking to (face to face). - The sound processing limits the volume of loud noises. As in, it recognizes that a noise is (too) loud and doesn't just automatically pass it through with amplification. Pretty neat… - Held phone conversation (through BT) with wife and the call quality was excellent. 1/19/2019 - Streaming music was freeing without a neckloop. - Streaming resolution sounded fantastic. - Heard instruments in songs that I've never heard before. Streaming music while running loud equipment worked great (vacuum/power sander) at blocking out the loud noises. - Need to ask about a possible noise cancelling setting (program) next time I'm at the audi. 1/20/2019 - Did more house work and wondered if these aids had a noise cancelling program/option. - Could hear one our cats breathing in more detail. - Moved cars around and noticed my car's engine is noisier. - Drove wife's car and could hear the engine in more detail. Could also hear more wind noise. - Noticed that aids switch over to BT streaming whenever my phone makes any noise. Sat in airport bar and feel less overwhelmed by background noise. Although I feel I may be missing important interactions/situational awareness. Will need to pay attention to this. - I feel like I can listen in on other conversations if I want to. - I find that I'm talking quieter now, since I don't hear all of the noise - While walking through airport, next to my wife, I noticed I had to turn my head towards my wife while she is talking to me, as I couldn't hear her while looking straight ahead. 1/21/2019 - I can connect through my phone for the remote app, but lost media streaming capabilities. I've tried all manner of booting/rebooting and shutting off and on. - Missing my old aids when I'm out in the open. I prefer hearing all of the noises. I feel like the world is a louder place and the aids are filtering it out for me. This could be good/bad. 1/22/2019 - Figured out the sequence for resyncing the BT between the aids and my phone (ZTE Axon 7). ○ 1st - go to Settings -> Bluetooth -> See if "R-Phonak hearing aid" is listed with a telephone headset (headphones with microphone) icon next to it. If it says connected, you should be all set. If not, click on it in an attempt to reconnect. ○ If the connection fails, reboot the right aid and as the aid is coming back up, try and reconnect again. If this works, you're all set. If not, forget all BT connections related to hearing aids that are listed. ○ Reboot the right aid again, when it comes back online, attempt to reconnect through the phone. That's it! After the above, you may need to forget/reconnect through the remote app again as well. 1/23/2019 - Figured out that phone can't be connected to aids and car stereo at the same time (through BT). - Need to manually connect BT to the car stereo through the phone and then back to the hearing aids again once you're out of the car. There is no auto connecting/switching between the two.

This is review is based on my experience of trials I wore for over one week. I choose not to keep the rechargeables and go to the 312 version of the Audeo Marvels due to odd issues in which the left aid would drain drastically faster than the right. We don't know if this was to do with the fact that they were trials, but I had other concerns. One was the general connectivity issues; I am young 38 and I the whole point of dropping the EXTRAORDINARY amount of money on these is for the streaming capabilities to Android. Unfortunately, they would not always connect easily and when they did the battery would drain fast lasting approximately 12-14 hours max if I used the Bluetooth for 30 minutes to 2 hours straight. After switching to the 312 (battery Audeo M's) they connect immediately! Another drawback is the size of the rechargeables; folks new to hearing aids should be made aware that rechargeables tend to be larger. Of course, every ear is different and mine just doesn't have all that much space. This resulted in feedback when I would wear OTE (over-the-ear) headphones; this has been resolved with the 312's. The hearing clarity is phenomenal, and the app is great although nowhere near as good as robust as ReSound's, but it is smart. I have also noticed in quite a slight improvement to my tinnitus, which is always a plus.

Great devices- I only hope that the batteries will not become an issue in the future. I do A LOT of listening to podcasts/streaming video/music during the day while working. I have noticed after wearing the aids all day and using streaming during work they will be dead by bedtime. Not always an issue, but I have found that after a long day there isn't enough battery left to watch the 11:00 o'clock news before bed. Offering an extended life battery as an option would be super. Otherwise, I can't be happier with the aids!
Member

That's about what I expected from them in terms of battery life.  The battery will gradually degrade over time, but you should be able to find ways of dealing with it too.  Lower volume should help, and perhaps switching them off for charging while using another device (headset, etc.) during periods when all you want to do is listen to podcasts.

I expect to receive mine next week.  They are en-route to my audi.  I do have two pair of BOSE HEARPHONES which I currently use as hearing aids AND for streaming.  Each pair gives me about 5-6 hours.  The Bose are only $500 each, but have been my "Go-To" aids for the last two years.  They are fantastic!  So I am planning on wearing the Phonak when out and about, and the Bose when just home with my wife or watching TV or listening to podcasts.

I hope that my comment will help you.  I have Starkey Halo aids, but the streaming on them is TERRIBLE, so I decided to upgrade to the Phonak, and switch over to the Bose just at home and when charging the Phonak's.  The Bose are powerful hearing aids, and you can tailor the sound to suit what you like.  For podcasts, music or TV, they are truly outstanding.

My complaint is that my ears produce moisture and I have to take my aids out of my ears and dry out my ear the best I can and then put the hearing aids back in, and that varies from time to time as to how often I have to do it. I have the phonack brand and one thing I really don't like is whenever I get a text message it says good news audio and then it goes through a series of beeps and if you are having a conversation with someone you can't hear what they are saying, and if you are talking on a landline phone and if you move the phone ever so slightly it's does that good news audio and beeps and then the volume goes down and you can't hear or understand what the other person is trying to tell you.......that part really sucks My fault but my hearing aids are the phonack brand I'm not sure what model but I've had them about four years. Sorry I didn't realize that my review is for the hearing aids I have and not the ones that are showed in the article.

I've had the Phonak M90 rechargeables for 3 weeks and very pleased. Upgraded from Q90 with Compilot, BUT I'm disappointed NOT to have announcing Caller ID when connected to my android Phone, which I had with the Compilot setup, I was told by my aud/guy that this is a Bluetooth issue that cannot be resolved! Thanks for trying to help but 'Talking CallerID' (as referred to in your answer) was the App that worked for me with the Q90 and Compilot setup but will not work with the M90-R.  I would like to hear from users of the M series if they have managed to get any form of caller ID working.

The compilot has worked for me without any app. It's a setting the configuration. May be it's also a setting on the Marvel?

The setting you refer to is in the Compilot configuration, as the M90-R does not require or use a Compilot there is no way to configure these aids for callerID. Unless a Phonak M type user can prove me wrong!

I’m a newbie to hearing aids. I’ve been wearing Phonak Audeo M70-R. RIC for one month. Before that I was trying out the Phonak Audeo B- 70 R for 2 months. My Audi switched me to the marvels at my request having seen the ads. I am very happy with the marvels as the sound quality improved, I got rid of the compilot, there is a better app for my iPhone, and the promise of better things to come. I have had problems with Bluetooth connections. If I want to connect to a Bluetooth speaker I haves to disconnect any other Bluetooth connection I am using. It is a nuisance in the Bluetooth car phone and I have had to disconnect my iPhone 8+ from the car system (Honda 2012). I have been following this issue in hearing tracker forum and the consensus it they will fix this problem in the near future. Looking forward to firmware upgrade in autum 2019 that will allow direct connection to Roger Direct. That is one of the only problems I have had difficulty in hearing in restaurants. The “speech in loud noise” doesn’t work for me. All in all I am a happy camper and in awe of the technology that has gone into these hearing aids.

Hi you say you have problems hearing in loud restaurants, this is the problem I have with my old HA and hoping to upgrade to Phonak.

Did the Marvels help with loud background noise ?

Ian M

My biggest problem with my Phonak Audeo M70-R RIC has been the “speech in loud noise”.  I gather, from Hearing Tracker forum, that this is a common problem with all HA.  It is really a big drawback from eating out.

When I took the problem to my Audi she reduced the surround sound noise to the maximum in the Phonak’s existing firmware.  There was a small improvement but the issue still exists.

I am waiting for the new firmware which will contain the Roger mike connections.  Then give the Roger system a tryout.

everything is great except for playing and practicing the acoustic guitar. I did not get the manual programs enabled on initial fitting and the autosense does not keep in music mode if there is talking. Practicing music is start/stop with online lessons and talking. the guitar sounds bad on the high notes. I'm hoping to get these resolved on the follow up appointment. I wish the Remote app would allow manual selection of the Autosense modes by default. Follow up on my review above. Was able to disable the default wind, feedback setting option on the Music mode, and now my guitars sound great again. Really happy with these HA now.

These are my first hearing aids and I am still getting used to them. Both Bluetooth and rechargeable batteries are great. I can listen to the TV through the aids and my hearing of dialogue is greatly improved. I did try the audio B 70 R for 2 months but found the compilot a nusience. The sound is greatly improved with the marvel. The main problem unchanged is “speech in loud noise”. That should be the next improvement expected in autumn of 2019 in a firmware upgrade.

I picked up my Audeo M90 312 from my audiologist 5 days ago, so this is an early set of comments on these new beauties! In mid-October I was in trial with the likable Audeo B90 312 HA's when the announcement came out that the M90 312 were coming out in 45 days. With the promise of a better AutoSense 3.0, B/T classic w/o neck device, works with iPhone and makes and takes phone calls and does text while on phone calls of the person that is calling, etc. Those were the features that grabbed my attention. Having worn them for 16 hours per day since I've received them, here are my thoughts so far. Overall, these hearing aids are smaller than my Widex Unique 440's that are being replaced and have more "curves" than the 440's. I have had no discomfort and they actually feel less noticeable than my 440's. I am using rubber tipped double vent domes that have a new shape. The audi fitted my left ear with the medium and my right ear with the small dome. After 3 days, I changed my left ear to small and the dull ache has gone away. The combination of domes and HA's have no observed feedback. The number of times that I have asked my wife to repeat what she has just said has reduced to zero. She if very pleased with the change in HA's. With regard to battery life of the 312's, while I was in trial of the B90's I was getting 5 days (16 hour days) with them. With the Marvel M90 312's I got 38 hours out of my new HA's using fresh 312 batteries. While using my new M90's I had my iPhone 7 Plus paired with the M90's every one of the 38 hours. The B/T classic had to be draining the batteries, but I wanted to see how that went. After putting my next new set of 312 batteries into the M90's I am being "stingy" with going to B/T mode and will see how long the batteries last while mostly in non-B/T mode. I did purchase a TV Connector D. This device will help your spouse more than it helps you! PERIOD!! The TV Connector D is linked to my optical output of my TV and is powered by ac plug. It provides B/T connectivity after being paired to the M90's. It does have an on/off switch on the top of the connector. The Phonak Remote on my iPhone offers slider control of the volume levels as does the top of the TV Connector D itself. The phone app offers much better control of the volume level for comfort and adjustment when the scenes have players that are whispering and then again when the "bombs" are going off and they are screaming. This is a very helpful device and I am now able to turn off closed caption and just enjoy the video product. Did I say my wife loves this?!?!? So do I! Now for my comments about the specific features: AutoSense 3.0; I really can't tell if this is an improvement over the AutoSense in the Phonak B90's. They sound about the same, but I haven't been in very challenging noisy environments too much yet. So this feature I can't comment on with real authority yet. I will say that their is something a bit odd about my right HA on both the M90 and the B90. While driving down the road in my Tacoma with the windows up and normal speeds, the right HA has an extra louder than actual environment level of "White Noise" generated. To combat this annoyance, I just bump the volume back 3 clicks and the bothersome noise is gone (actually not gone, but not heard). This does not happen with my left HA side. This has happened with both my Audeo B90's that I was in trial with and my new M90's. Any thoughts about this problem fellow users?? B/T Classic: I was able to pair the left HA M90 with the iPhone 7Plus (latest iOS) and my iHeart and iTunes was immediately available for my listening enjoyment. The sound quality was very good - like corded Apple earbuds. My next step was to connect to the TV Connector D for better TV aural experience. No problem there and the the experience was refreshing and enjoyable. There are a couple of things to remember when dealing with B/T. The Marvels can only connect with one B/T device at a time. Normal, pretty much. So you must remember to turn off the TV Connector D, if you have one, or it will keep you from connecting to your music on the iPhone, etc. I forgot about this initially and spent a half hour repeatedly pairing and "forgetting" devices until I remembered that I had the TV Connector on. Once I turned that off, everything was controllable. Phone calls via M90 and iPhone 7Plus (and iPhone X): Two days ago I upgraded from my iPhone 7Plus platform to the iPhone X device. Sweet new phone - I like it better! The reason that I mention them both is that I have had absolutely NO ISSUES WITH MAKING OR TAKING PHONE CALLS with either device. [Sorry for the shouting HA buddies!] Most of my calls have been while I was at home and the phone quality on my side was spectacular and into both ears. The person on the other end said it was excellent voice quality to them. On another occasion I was in the gym on the treadmill at an establishment that had other equipment running and fairly loud music in the background. My side was still good but the other side said that although it was understandable it my voice was muted some and low compared to the highs of the notes in the music that was playing. Next was trying out the phone with M90's while driving in the Tacoma. Again, both sides agreed that the voice quality was very good (I was using the mic pick ups on the M90's - FYI). For this feature to work you must have your B/T up and running on your iPhone - FYI. Phonak promises that the when taking a call that you can see the incoming callers written text on your iPhone: I haven't been able to demo this feature on my own. Not sure how to turn on this capability while on a phone call. Maybe someone out there can help me with this? One last thought: I still have to give these new HA's a hard test in really tough environments, but if they are similar or better than the B90's then they will help me while in a crowd - the bane of all HA users! Overall, glad that I got them and would consider the Phonak Marvel M90 312 a good value for the money. Remember to get the TV Connector D to vastly improve your TV viewing experience.... and your spouse's too!

Hi William,

A very Big Thank You for taking the time to write a pretty thorough review of the Marvel M90s! I was at my hearing Aid specialist (sic SpecSavers...) this morning and asked for quotes on the 312 M90s... I also have a new 7+ in the post so your review fitted in with my planned setup perfectly! Good to know it will (hopefully!) be a good experience. Likewise with the TV Connector D - I'll look into this as it sounds like a very good accessory to obtain! My only remaining query is whether the rechargeable versions are worth considering if I am going to be streaming for a good few hours a day... That and whether the TV Connector can also be used with PCs etc to stream audeo from the PC while playing games / apps etc.

Wishing you all the Best with your Marvel M90's!

Susie

Hi William,

You have to install the Phonak my Call-to-Text app on your phone to get call to text. I haven't tried it yet, so let us all know how it worked for you!

Only my second day. My Audiologist told me she errs on the side of over amplification and I have had some issues with sharp noises like dishes clattering on granite counter or garbage compactor closing loudly. Also plastic bags (my wife eating tortilla chips out of the bag) are loud and noisy. I have turned down the initial setting from 0 to minus 3 or 4 using the remote as my Audiologist indicated I should do until my brain gets used to these higher pitched sounds. Will gradually increase the setting until I get back to neutral. Updated 12/27/18 after two weeks with these Marvel hearing aids. Went to a live concert and was very surprised how much better the music sounded. I am doing much better with loud sharp sounds and most of the time I'm in the full volume (zero) setting. AutoSense seems to do a good job of adjusting.

I am VERY happy with my Phonak Audeo M hearing aids. I've been using hearing aids for 10 years and these are the clearest of all that I've used.

Same issue - Audeo M does NOT work with iphone XS.  There's no amount of configuring, re-pairing etc. that will work.  Phonak customer support completely ineffective.  Seamless Bluetooth headset calling is why I bought these and even though I think the Resound offers better noise control, I would stick with the Audeos but ONLY if the bluetooth calling works.  That's not the case unfortunately so I will be returning them.

They're working fine with my XS Max.  IOS 12.1.2. Make sure you have call routing set to Bluetooth headset under accessibility instead of automatic. Don't be too quick to return them.

Thank you!  I haven’t received mine yet, but your comment sent me to SETTINGS to make that change to call ROUTING.  I had noticed this problem with other Bluetooth devices.  I appreciate your taking the time to let us know.

On the Phonak site there is a Bluetooth section in which you can select your phone model and see if the app and phone streaming works.  The site acknowledges intermittent phone connectivity issue with 10XS (the same is true for other new iPhone models).  Changing the phone settings to bluetooth headset will not consistently fix the problem.

Same problem here. Phonak is blaming it on Apple. ☹️🙉

Wondering if you guys got your microphones to work consistently on phone calls yet?  I haven't received my M-90's yet but expect to get them this week.  If you solved your problem, please post what the solution is.

Audiologist here.  I’ve been having this issue (HA mix shuts off for own voice pick up while on BT calls) with my patients with iPhone XS only.  As stated above, Phonak and Apple are aware and working on a fix via Target software update, due to be released end of Feb. 2019.  Frustrating.

At my ear store I was fitted for the Audeo Marvel, M90.  The technician said that he could enable all the features on the "chip".  Or, after careful questioning, admitted he could delete features for the other three lower price points (without changing the product in my ear).

What?  Everyone gets the same product....the features in each price point are just enabled - or not with the click of the mouse!!!!!

The higher price point customers, then, are essentially subsidising the lower price point customers.   Nobody EVER MENTIONS THIS. Not the American way.

I was dumbfounded by this at first too, but believe it or not, the software features cost more in R&D than the hardware... AND, the software features are what differentiate the hearing aid models and brands from each other - more so than the hardware. So really, when you're purchasing a hearing aid, a big part of what you're buying is the sound processing software package. I'm not saying it's the best pricing model, but it has been the prevailing model for as long as I've been familiar with this industry.

US based car manufacturer, Tesla, do the same with their Electric Cars, but it it made pretty clear to customers that this is how they do it. If you choose a feature or option with a new car purchase, it generally costs less that purchasing as an upgrade later. For example, Auto-Pilot hardware is built into all vehicles but it costs about $5,000 to enable this option which Tesla can do remotely through an over the air update once payment is made. I think that this business approach makes sense as it standardises the hardware to streamline production etc and user pays for the features if they want them. It would probably cost manufacturers more to have several different hardware options. You can also choose to upgrade later if you are unsure or cannot afford at time purchase.

I just bought the Phonak M90R's as my first hearing aid after trialling a few premium models from leading brands and after a week of use am happy with them. They work fine with iPhone X and new Phonak TV Connector. My only issue so far is that if I pair them using bluetooth with my Mac Book Pro, then I cannot get them to pair with my phone again unless I forget them in bluetooth set up and pair again. I then also need to do the same in the App to get it to communicate with the HA's.

Thanks for mentioning this, I had this experience with the Resounds, this process is annoying as hell. Might as well just use one portable streamer and plug it into different devices as needed than go through the trouble of unpairing and re-pairing.
Member
Hi Adam, Phonak just issued a firmware update that improves connectivity. Can now pair to 2 Bluetooth devices and just switch from one to the other via your Phone Bluetooth settings menu. Can also connect to 2 separate Phonak TV connectors in addition to Bluetooth devices

Good to know. I'm pretty sure it'd be mostly Macbook Pro and iPhone for me.

The american way is a free market economy.  The seller supplies certain benefits and the buyer pays for those benefits.  What's the problem.  If anything you should think that the premium buyer is subsidizing the lower model buyer.  Why because if there was only one model of features than the lower model buyer would have to pay a higher price although not as high as the price charged for the premium model.  So in other words the premium model buyer is subsidizing the price of the of lower model in order to increase the overall demand for the product.

Think of it as buying software for your computer.  Same computer can have Windows Home or Professional.  32-bit or 64-bit.  All on the same unit.
Member
It looks like if you want the Speech in Car feature you still have to purchase the 90 model as this feature is not available as an extra program in the lower models.

Can anybody tell me how good they work with land phones? I didn't get these aids yet, I´ve ordered them today. My Audi suggested me the Widex  Evoke 440 that I'm trying now, but they stream only to my iPhone/iPad and this is a problem for me. At work I don't phone with a smartphone, and being able to handle phone calls at work is for me of utmost importance.

I have used a corded land line at work and had no issues. I've worn in the ear aids for some years and the Audeo Ms are behind the ear, so I did have to find the "sweet spot".

I have a severe conductive hearing loss due to otosclerosis in my right ear and typical age-related hearing loss in my left ear. Hearing in my left ear is "good enough" that I don't really need a hearing aid. Hearing in my right ear is very poor and I require a hearing aid to be able to hear anything. Otosclerosis is progressive. When I was first diagnosed, I purchased an Oticon Epoq XW BTE. It lasted for around 5 years before more power was required. I purchased a Phonak Naida Q90 RIC. It came with a Com Pilot, but I never used it because even with the hearing aid, my hearing with my right ear wasn't good enough to rely on it alone. The Naida also lasted for around 5 years before I started to reach the limit of its power.

I have two phones (android and iphone) and I use skype heavily at work, so I decided it was time to get hearing aids for both ears, in particular, hearing aids that supported connectivity with all of my devices. My audiologist fitted me with Phonak Audéo Marvel 312 M90 hearing aids. I found my hearing in both ears was significantly improved, but I was very disappointed with the connectivity of the Marvels. Phonak downplays the fact that the Marvels can only be paired with one device at a time. If you only use one device, this won't be a problem. If you use multiple devices, particularly if you use a PC, it's another matter altogether. It's unnecessarily tedious, but it doesn't take very long to un-pair and re-pair with phones. If you're using a PC, you will have to reboot every time you pair it with the Marvels. If you run a lot of applications on your PC, this is inconvenient and time consuming. In my case, I ended up leaving the Marvels paired to my laptop and rarely used them with either of my phones. Another problem I encountered with the Marvels is that they frequently disconnected during skype calls and it was often difficult to get them to reconnect. Sometimes only one would reconnect. Sometimes neither would reconnect. I had to have a backup USB headphone on standby. This was inconvenient and disruptive to my colleagues. I also received complaints from my colleagues that my voice sounded like I was in another room or speaking through a tunnel.

I discussed these issues with my audiologist and with Phonak. Phonak's response was basically that bluetooth is hard. They offered no commitment that they would fix the single-pairing issue or the disconnect problem. This defeated the major purpose for purchasing the Marvels.

Before evaluation period of the Marvels expired, I started an evaluation of Oticon Opn 1 hearing aids. I found the hearing to be basically the same, but they did not have the connectivity problems. (They pair with multiple devices and they never disconnect during a skype call.) The only drawback is that the connect clip is required for the microphone. Overall, I find it to be a minor drawback and my colleagues no longer complain that I am difficult to hear. I'm very happy with the Opn 1 hearing aids. I will review them separately.

In summary, the Marvels are great hearing aids, but their connectivity capabilities have major limitations that significantly diminish their usefulness. In my opinion, the Marvels have a lot of potential, but Phonak needs to go back to the drawing board. As they currently are, Marvels are an over-hyped and unfinished product.

I've had the Marvel 312T's for a little over a week. I am quite satisfied with the hearing aids with one exception.  The T-coils don't have an auto t-coil setting anymore. I can't use them with my landline. Yes, I have the magnets on the landline headset. Very disappointed and may return them if they can't get it figured out before the end of the trial period.  I'm hoping its a configuration issue.

I think Marvel HA's are for someone with a mild to mid level hearing loss.  They do very well in quiet situations but do not handle noisy locations well.  The quiet in noise is some what useless and the loud in noise does so-so.  The autosense mode does adjust well.  My main complaint in the battery holder is cheap and difficult to open.  I doubt mine will last long since Phonak didn't put much thought into designing this.

It is imposible to use the telephone app discretely. When you open the app it takes nearly a minute to locate each hearing aid.  You must look at the screen as you adjust the volume, etc. You cannot leave the app running all the time -it exhausts the battery.  At a conference or concert you might have wanted to change the volume quickly. With a traditional remote, such as is available with earlier models, all this could be done by touch.

PLEASE make a physical remote available.

I just got the Marvel M90 312T.  I ordered a remote with it and it works in my pocket for volume and program changes.  I haven’t been able to use my landline phones as T coil doesn’t work.  I hope it can be figured out!  Jane

Hello everyone :)   I am a Phonak HA user for the past 3 years. I work with animals and needed to be sure to hear exactly what was needed by me for them.  My first pair of Phonak HA's are really great.  I didn't have any other HA to compare them too, but they are fine for my needs (Tinnitus in both ears) However  I recently found that my original HA's were not picking up voices very well.  I was really having trouble in most cases of low voice recognition and in loud noisy environments to hear anything people were saying to me...very embarrassing and humiliating.   I recently had my yearly hearing test and discussed these issues with my Audi.   She looked into my warranty and saw that in fact my HA's were still covered until March 2020.  So she recommended we send them in for and "over hall".  During this appointment I asked about the Marvels.  I had been researching just for fun/information on any new HA's from Phonak.  I really loved what I was reading on the Marvels for Tinnitus sufferers such as myself.   She explained that they were truly a great HA and are fantastic for Tinnitus reduction.  So we decided to have me try out a pair of Marvels while mine were sent out.  It's been 3 days into wearing them, and I see a huge difference in so many areas of these compared to my original Phonak's.  (BT compatibility is really cool.)   I am going to be testing them a bit more today in a noisier environment....lunch in a restaurant/ bar ….(Sunday, FOOTBALL!!!)  lol   So I will update in a day or so.

I do have a question:  Has anyone out there had any experience with the Roger Select accessory for the Marvel HA's?

Thanks in advance for anyone who is reading my long message and for your response.

Hello,

I have been wearing my 2nd pair of hearing aids for 2 weeks. I upgraded to Phonak M90s. Has anyone experienced a mild electrical shock from their M90s? I experienced this last night. When I forgot to take them out before sleep, I was awakened by strong tingling mostly in fingers & hands.
