Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome. Hearing aids are manufactured with varying levels of quality; some hearing aids are extremely durable, while others suffer frequent breakage. Battery life also varies between models, and manufacturer predictions of battery life are often optimistic. By collecting feedback from consumers, we can get a better idea of real world product durability and battery life... Continue reading

I have been wearing lyrics for 6 years after having worn traditional canal hearing aids for 17 years. I started wearing hearing early at the age of 29 due to inherited hearing loss. What a life changing experience. They are pricey ($3200/year) but they are worth it. I used to get lots of ear infections. I was told that lyrics were BAD for ear infections. Nothing could be further from the truth. Non a single infection is 6 years. I believe my ear infections with traditional aids were from putting them in and out and moving water and wax around in my ear. All the wax is now outside of the Lyrics...nothing between my lyric and ear drum. The sound quality is very good...and no one can see them. They are invisible. I can shower, swim (do not go under water), and sleep with them. They are also great at suppressing sound if my wife is snoring :) The first few fittings were tough. It took a while to get them not to whistle. Now, I just have the audi put them in and I move them around with my pinkie. Works like a charm. I was even able to take them out for an MRI and put them back in with pretty good results. My aids (batteries) last about 8-10 weeks before I have to change them I am torn, as my year subscription is up, as to whether I want to try a tradition cic aid with all the bells and whistles. Maybe I will hear better. Maybe I can go diving again as the aids will be easier to take out and put in.
I've been using the Lyric for 10 years now and looking to switch for more power and features like Bluetooth. The Lyrics have been really great for their intended purpose and I will miss some of the unique capabilities that only the Lyric can provide, mainly hearing 24x7 vs. taking the hearing aids out at night.
I have worn CIC and BTE aids in the past and nothing compares to the comfort and convenience of Lyric. Just put them in and forget them till the batteries wear out (about 5-6 weeks). No need to take them out at night or fiddle with batteries. They have been great--BUT they are very pricey and the price just went up from $1800 per year per ear to $2200. That's $4400 each year which is getting outrageous. I'm getting to the point where despite the comfort and convenience I'm thinking about going back to digital aids (probably Costco). I know the technology has improved over the last few years so I'm going to give them a try. If they're comparable to the Lyric sond quality, I'll switch--if not, I may bite the bullet and pull out my wallet to stick with Lyric.
This is the third pair of aids I've tried, and the only ones I'll keep and live with. I especially like that I don't have to remove them every night. They are comfortable, and help with my tinnitus. Not inexpensive, but I've returned both less and more expensive competitive brands.
