The Carat 7bx is not my first set of hearing aids or for that matter my first set of BTE hearing aids. It's about my fourth set of hearing aids (aged 51) which have been required since a injury in a combat zone. Plus is that the technology has improved, but they are still only slightly better than not using anything at all. Discomfort is moderate - you will get used to it, but you will always feel a certain of discomfort with them. Sound quality: in my opinion they are not good at all in a crowded environment and this is even after selecting the program specifically for this type of environment. You'll find that you take them out in these situations as you'll actually hear better. In normal business environment(s) the quality is apt to vary. Why this happens I've no idea, but they do and it's incredibly frustrating when people see that you're wearing hearing aids and you still CANNOT hear them. Recharging system: This is another big disappointment. The thing is unreliable and even when it says the batteries have charged fully, you'll take them out and find that they have not charged at all. Or worse yet, they've charged and it lasts about 2-3 hours before dying out (be sure to always carry a spare set of non-rechargeable batteries with you and to NOT rely on this system. Overall value: I'd rate it as poor/fair. They are very expensive and you can only expect fair sound quality (on a good day) so there has to be better options and if not I'd have forgone this purchase and just done without.
