History

Established in 1971.

Dr. Janice Powis founded Mayflower Audiology in May of 2014 with the mission of bringing a "whole patient" approach to hearing health care on Boston's South Shore.

When the previous owner of Quincy Hearing Aid decided to retire, the perfect opportunity presented itself. Quincy Hearing reopened in August of 2014 as the first Mayflower Audiology Practice. Since then, the practice has continued to grow exponentially under the direction and guidance of Dr. J.

Dr. Janice Tanedo Powis believes in the "whole person" approach to hearing health care, partnering with her patients to combine hearing technology with communication strategies to maximize their hearing potential.

Dr. Powis completed her clinical fellowship year at Brigham and Women's hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.  After spending several years working in private practice settings in both Boston and Plymouth, MA, Dr. Powis took ownership of Quincy Hearing Aid in August 2014.  Dr. Powis holds an AuD degree from the University of Memphis in Tennessee.  She is a fellow of both the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology.  A member of the Massachusetts Academy of Audiology, Dr. Powis is licensed to practice audiology in Massachusetts.

As an advocate of hearing preservation, Dr. Powis was featured as a noise expert on Boston's NBC news affiliate, WHDH-TV on the dangers of noise-induced hearing loss while riding the MBTA.

Quincy Hearing Aid Video Reviews & Testimonials #1

Our Patient Mary shares some of the reasons why she has chosen Quincy Hearing Aid for her hearing healthcare needs.

Dr. Powis:

Alright, Now you are on. So first question. What difficulties were you experiencing before you came to this office?

Mary:

Before I came here I had difficulty hearing English movies on the television and I was speaking more loudly in the house then I wanted to because I couldn’t really hear. So – I raised my voice but I find that I don’t have to do that anymore.

Dr. Powis:

Ok. So since you came here to this office, how have things changed for you?

Mary:

Well, I can speak more softly; my children are happy, they don’t have to speak so loudly anymore. And they smile…and its a great feeling to feel as though I’m more normal (laughs).

Dr. Powis:

That’s wonderful. If you were to recommend Dr. Powis what would you say to a friend or family member about coming here?

Mary:

Well, I felt very comfortable, I feel as though I can ask any questions, and I feel that I could call at any time and it was a great experience instead of having somebody just try to sell me something.

Dr. Powis:

Wonderful, thank you so much.
