Widex is one of the world’s most popular hearing aid brands. Known for its advanced hearing aid technology, Widex was founded more than 60 years ago in Denmark by the Tøpholm and Westermann families. In March 2019, relatives of the company's original founders merged Widex with Sivantos, another Big Six hearing aid manufacturer. The new combined company, WS Audiology, has combined revenues of EUR 1.7 billion ($1.9 billion USD) and more than 10,000 employees. WS Audiology is now the third-largest hearing aid company in the world. Widex brand hearing aids specialize in innovative ways to deliver the best possible sound quality and performance in real-life situations, like noise.

Widex Evoke Hearing Aids

EVOKE hearing aids with machine learning

EVOKE™ is the latest hearing aid family from Widex. Released in mid-2018, EVOKE features automatic sound processing, natural sound and performance in a variety of difficult listening environments, with Sound Class technology across all product styles and tiers. Select styles offer Made-for-iPhone connectivity. EVOKE is the only hearing aid to utilize real-time machine learning to allow the wearer to personalize and optimize their sound settings in any listening environment, right in the moment. This proprietary Widex feature is called SoundSense Learn.

SoundSense Learn

Found in the EVOKE smartphone app, SoundSense Learn lets the wearer select their environment and listening goals, then listen and compare two sound profiles, and choose one they like best. Based on the wearer’s choices, the hearing aid learns what settings they like and improves their hearing experience in real time. This Widex-exclusive feature allows the wearer more control even in the most difficult listening environments and offers the hearing care professional insights into their patients’ sound preferences to further enhance treatment. The Widex EVOKE smartphone app offers a variety of control options in addition to SoundSense learn, including advanced control for streaming, volume and programs, directional focus, and more.

UNIQUE hearing aids

Widex UNIQUE hearing aids feature superior sound quality, including a sound processing classification system called Sound Class Technology that divides listening environments into nine distinct sound classes to better suit each wearer’s own sound situation. They include a Wind Noise Attenuation system that reduces wind noise, making the hearing aids more comfortable and making speech easier to hear, addressing a common challenge for hearing aid wearers. And for understanding speech in environments with background noise, such as a fan or a refrigerator, a Soft Level Noise Reduction system ensures that soft speech sounds are maintained for users while unwanted sounds are limited.

Notable Widex hearing aid features and technologies

Widex is a huge innovator in the world of hearing aids. Aside from machine learning and rechargeable innovations, Widex has a long-standing reputation as being the best hearing aid brand for musicians, and most consumers rate Widex as the best brand for natural music reproduction. Many in the hearing industry also look to Widex as a pioneer in tinnitus relief, due in part to its Zen Fractal Technology, which offers a variety of sound therapy solutions for both the user and hearing care provider. Zen Fractal Technology is available in all hearing aid models.

Widex rechargeable hearing aids

Widex provides rechargeable hearing aids utilizing replaceable batteries from the Second-Generation ZPower system. ZPower rechargeable batteries offer at least a full day of battery life and can be swapped with standard zinc air batteries at any time, providing more flexibility if wearers forget to charge their devices or are without power.

Widex Rechargeables

New Widex EVOKE Fusion 2 hearing aids come with a rechargeable option. If you currently own either EVOKE Fusion 2 or BEYOND Fusion 2 hearing aids, you can ask your audiologist to retrofit them with a new battery door to accommodate the ZPower rechargeable batteries.

Machine Learning

Machine learning is a form of artificial intelligence where systems learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions on their own. In Widex EVOKE hearing aids, SoundSense Learn technology has hearing aid users listen to sound profiles suggested by an app on their smartphones. The user is presented with simple sound profiles via A/B comparisons, then listens and compares the sound profiles, and selects their preference for either A or B. The users’ choices are then fed back into a machine learning system, the Widex Cloud, where the process continues and new intelligent sound profiles are presented to other users. The SoundSense Learn feature constantly improves the personalized sound settings for various listening environments and is available to EVOKE wearers—right in the moment when they need them.

Fluid Sound Analyzer

Widex hearing aids automatically react to different listening environments with Fluid Sound Analyzer technology, and the Fluid Sound Controller automatically adjusts device settings to those different environments. This feature is known as SoundClass Technology and minimizes the need for additional dedicated programs. It distinguishes between settings with speech and without speech to allow for both comfort and clarity in any environment.

EVOKE smartphone app provides range of controls

The EVOKE app provides a range of controls for your EVOKE hearing aids. It also features the exclusive machine learning feature called SoundSense Learn to establish the best personalized sound settings for multiple listening environments in real-time. With it, EVOKE wearers can create and name their own, personalized programs. If they wish, they can save the settings. It also lets wearers make individual volume adjustments on each hearing aid, adjust the directionality of microphones, and set location-based programs to switch on automatically. The EVOKE smartphone app also generates automatic updates that will give the user access to new features and product enhancements.

Accessory

EVOKE App

Compatible hearing aids

The TONELINK app uses a smartphone's speaker to transmit one-way acoustic commands that control key functions. Since these commands are sent in a coded sound from the smartphone to the hearing aid, users do not need Bluetooth or assistive listening devices. The TONELINK hearing aid app enables users to discreetly change programs, adjust volume, mute, and change directional focus.

Widex legacy hearing aid models

Widex constantly updates its hearing aid models. It leads its current lineup with its EVOKE, BEYOND, and UNIQUE models. However, some dealers continue to sell earlier models, including:

  • Widex DREAM hearing aids
  • Widex SUPER hearing aids
  • Widex CLEAR hearing aids
  • Widex MIND hearing aids

Widex tinnitus solutions

Widex was among the first to use hearing aids to treat tinnitus when it introduced its ZEN Therapy program in 2012. Widex hearing aids generate "fractal tones" to manage tinnitus noises in the ears and head. Additionally, the Widex ZEN Tinnitus App offers listeners the option to stream soothing sounds through their hearing devices. It also offers counseling techniques for relaxation and sleep.

Widex EVOKE

My hearing aid is compatible with my iPhone and TV Play. When using these I hear every word clearly and I'm very happy with this. I no longer need closed captioning and feel less disabled and feel I can communicate better. I did not have a cell phone earlier because I couldn't hear on any phone. I love this new tech!

Widex EVOKE

My hearing has gotten worse so it is not helping as much as I wish it did. That is more a reflection of my declining hearing than a problem with my hearing aid.

Widex CLEAR

Hearing aids in my experience really have not helped in most situations. Microphone is behind the ear, noisy restaurant you hear conversations behind you not the person sitting across from you! On the phone, microphone is covered up by ear, large room poor acoustics no help at all. Not sure I would spend this kind of money again?

It's a life challenge, which hearing aids overcome. Yesterday, I sat out and listened to the birds, and it was amazing!
