Dr. McKenna’s interests in hearing and cognition in aging, tinnitus, the genetics of hearing loss, hearing loss in school age children, and the benefits/limitations of hearing aid technology are reflected in her clinical practice. A research scientist early in her career, she emphasizes up to date evidence based practice in both diagnostics and rehabilitation/treatment. At the same time, she values a patient centered focus, emphasizing the patient’s needs and good two way communication. Dr. McKenna is also a faculty member in the audiology doctoral program at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine where she provides both academic and clinical teaching.
