About the Audicus Oro (Previously Alto)

Update: The Audicus Alto is known as the Audicus Oro as of January 3rd, 2017. The name "Alto" has not been changed in the text below, but description still applies as the product is the same.
The Audicus Alto is the newest hearing aid on offer from internet-only hearing aid company Audicus. The company is best known for offering Audicus-branded Hansaton hearing aids for a fraction of the typical price. The Alto is priced at $699 per device with a Bluetooth remote offered for $299 or regular remote control for $99. The hearing aids are offered with a 45-day money-back trial period, and one-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. The whole package (two hearing aids and a Bluetooth Remote) comes in at around $1,697. For comparison, the Costco Kirkland Signature™ 7.0 hearing aids cost about $3 more and come with built-in Bluetooth connectivity (no remote necessary), a six-month money-back trial period, a 2-year loss and damage warranty, and unlimited face-to-face professional support.
The Alto comes in three different power levels, with a maximum output of 127dB SPL. Audicus claims that the Alto is suitable for consumers with up-to severe hearing loss. However, Alto is only available with open or closed speaker domes (custom earmolds are not offered). While it's possible that the Alto is capable of working for some consumers with severe hearing loss, it may be a stretch for others. Custom earmolds are often needed for hearing aid users with severe to profound hearing loss to help facilitate louder volumes and reduce the likelihood of audible feedback.
The Alto comes with directional microphones and an environmental classification system which helps the hearing aid to automatically adjust to "changing acoustic environments." The documentation also lists a feedback suppression system, a noise reduction system, and a speech detection algorithm. Detailed feature descriptions were not available in the one-page spec sheet. Audicus' website also lists a "tinnitus-masking element" that may be of some value to chronic tinnitus sufferers.
Before attempting to purchase the Alto's, you'll need to obtain a copy of your most recent hearing test (cannot be older than one year). Audicus will use the hearing test to pre-program your hearing aids to your "hearing profile." Once your hearing aids are delivered, you're free to utilize Audicus' phone, email, and chat support to resolve any issues. Unfortunately, Audicus has no way of adjusting the programming on your hearing aids remotely, so you'll need to ship them back and forth if further adjustments are needed. If you decide to purchase a remote after receiving your hearing aids, you'll need to send the hearing aids back to Audicus, so the aids may be paired with your new remote.
Note: Hansaton was acquired by Sonova in April 2015.

Audicus Oro (Previously Alto) Reviews

Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome. Hearing aids are manufactured with varying levels of quality; some hearing aids are extremely durable, while others suffer frequent breakage. Battery life also varies between models, and manufacturer predictions of battery life are often optimistic. By collecting feedback from consumers, we can get a better idea of real world product durability and battery life... Continue reading

I do really like this hearing aid. I think it'd be even better with some custom molds on it, because it tends to want to slide out of my ear. Audicus has always been very helpful if I've had questions or concerns

Wonderful, gives me my hearing back, and so light and small. Ordering online was way easier than going to an audiologist.

This hearing aid has exceeded all of my expectations! I was a bit nervous to order online, but I am so glad that I did. The fit of the Alto is exactly like the hearing aid that I tried on with my local audiologist. I did two trials to compare the two hearing aids and I found that the Alto has a better sound quality than the other $3000 hearing aid. I am a music lover and am very pleased with the sound that the Alto produces - my ears are happy and dancing again. Thank you, Audicus!

I think with this price, Alto really do great improvement for my hearing, my hearing loss is severe to profound. I already wear hearing aid about 5 years different brand and with higher price than alto.. This alto comfort, produce clear sound and good noisy reduction.. But when the environment too noisy its better to put off your Alto, why? Because this alto really "brake" this noisy, so sometime we even don't realize that we are really in noisy environment :). Like see live rock music on stage. One my concern is, i live in Indonesia. Hope Audicus give better solution for fitting instead to send my HA back to US. Because it's not cheap, risk of damage and lost, and should take long time for shipping. Finally, i love my alto! From Danny - Indonesia

I have had 3 lots of different hearing aids in the past 10 years and the Altos are the best by a huge difference in a different range of hearing enviroments across the board. I dont have to adjust them they change automatically and are comfortable sound wise to wear.

Very happy. I am a repeat customer. The first set got a bit wet when I dived into a pool. My bad. The quality of service is second to none, quality is outstanding, reliability is superb and price is excellent.

Can't stress enough how good this RIC has been to me. I have had RICs in the past (never wanted to deal with ITE hearing aids... too pluggy) and I can say that this sound is the most natural and reliable of any I've tried. I'm only a week in but I think this is a true winner. Hosted a huge dinner party at a restaurant for my husband's 60th and not only did no one notice the hearing aids, but I also did not have to adjust them once and they assisted me thru the entire night (this was in a noisy steakhouse where I typically can't hear the waiter without HAs). Only one button for control but I actually like this. It is easier than with two buttons, which I've tried in the past (and on top of that it auto adjusts). Still in trial pd but I totally plan on keeping and recommending to all of my friends!

I am pretty happy with my Altos. At the time of purchase, I didn't realize that Costco had comparable prices and personal support. Either way, its worked out pretty well for me, but I might investigate alternatives next time. I have a mild hearing loss, and the hearing aids seem clear enough, and don't whistle. They help some in noisy situations, but not much.

Costco would not sell me the Kirkland for $1,700 because they said my hearing was too poor for that Hearing Aid. Could someone tell me what range of hearing loss the Kirkland handles? My hearing loss is 100 on the audiogram in one ear and 95 in the other ear. Costco sold me the Brenafon for $2.600, I did not like the remote that hangs around the neck and did not use it so I felt I was paying for something I did not want or did not use. The hearing aids kept falling out of my ears. I kept complaining and they said I was fine. I thought I needed a longer wire but the audiologist at Costco said I had the correct size. I went home but thought it over and came to the conclusion that I needed the longer wire and thought Costco probably did not have the longer wire in stock and perhaps that was why they told me I did not need the longer wire or a larger dome . So I called Costco on the phone and just said "I need the longer wires would you order them for me and I also need a larger dome?" Once I got the longer wire and the larger dome the Hearing aids no longer fell out of my ears and i was more comfortable with the aids and stopped putting my hands up to my ears to push the domes in more securely. The aids had a little tinny sound and at this point I had lost some confidence in what the specialist at Costco was saying. My hearing in one ear is 100 on the audiogram and 95 in the other ear so it is called a severe? hearing loss. I asked for a refund and considering the Audicus Alto and would like some comparison or input about the Audicus Alto as compared to the Costco Brenafon for my levelof hearing loss

I am a new hearing aid user, and the cost was preventing me from getting them. I found Audicus online and after reviewing them, I purchased a pair of Oro's. I cannot believe all of the sounds I was missing out on! Audicus has amazing customer support and shipping was very fast! I ordered on a Friday, and they arrived Monday! I highly recommend Audicus!
