Rexton Reach at Costco: Audiologist and Lab Tested for Performance, Features, and Value
In this video, HearingTracker Audiologist Matthew Allsop details the six key features that he thinks make Rexton Reach an outstanding value when purchased at Costco.
The Rexton Reach R-Li T is a premium receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid now available at Costco for $1,499 per pair. As the flagship hearing aid of Rexton, it incorporates multi-track speech processing, advanced noise management, Bluetooth LE Audio, and a 39-hour battery life that is one of the best in the industry.
HearAdvisor lab testing and HearingTracker's analysis of features indicate that Rexton Reach— which is currently the lowest-priced prescription hearing aid at Costco— is an exceptional value. In terms of performance, it scores in the top 25% of all prescription hearing aids we've tested to date, and in terms of features and value, it ranks in the top 5%.
With a wide fitting range from mild to severe hearing loss, Rexton Reach combines the robust durability (IP68-rated) from Rexton's previous-generation Bi-Core hearing aids with cutting-edge technology that improves speech clarity in a variety of listening environments.
But how does it really perform? After extensive real-world testing and lab measurements, here’s my expert take on its strengths, weaknesses, and overall value proposition.
)
Rexton is an established brand in hearing healthcare but is sometimes overshadowed by its two "big sisters," Widex and Signia, who are part of the "Big 6” global premium brand leaders. With Rexton, these brands belong to Denmark's WS Audiology (WSA) group, the world's third-largest manufacturer of hearing aids. Today, Rexton hearing aids contain technology closely resembling that of Signia, guaranteeing their quality is on par with premium brands. You may also find Rexton products at WSA-owned hearing centers like HearUSA and HearCanada.
Rexton was the first hearing aid offered by Costco, so it enjoys a long history with the retailer. Costco also offers the Rexton inoX-CIC Li 80 instant-fit hearing aid, and some may still offer the previous-generation Rexton Bi-Core family.

Lab Testing: Performance of the Rexton Reach Hearing Aid
In HearAdvisor’s independent testing, the Rexton Reach R-Li T demonstrated strong performance, earning an "A" SoundGrade and earning a HearAdvisor Expert Choice Award.
The table below presents the lab results for Rexton Reach across five tested conditions using a 5-point scale (with 5 being the best). The "Initial Fit" represents the hearing aid’s performance using the manufacturer's default "first fit" setting (i.e., before any fine-tuning by a hearing care provider). In contrast, the "Tuned Fit" reflects the optimized settings an audiologist can achieve through the use of best practices, such as real-ear measurement (REM) and other fine-tuning techniques designed to enhance hearing aid performance. Typically, professionals place an emphasis on achieving the best possible results for speech in quiet and in noise.
Test Condition | Initial Fit | Tuned Fit |
---|---|---|
Speech in quiet | 3.9 | 4.1 |
Speech in noise | 2.3 | 2.4 |
Feedback handling | 4.9 | 4.8 |
Own voice | 3.6 | 3.6 |
Music streaming | 2.9 | 2.7 |
OVERALL SCORE | 4.5 | 4.6 |
"Tuned" versus "Initial" fitting scores for Rexton R-Li T hearing aids. The Tuned Score reflects the performance when "fine-tuned" using audiological best practices by a professional as opposed to "first-fit" programming.
Below, we'll look more closely at what these lab scores mean, and then I'll comment on my own experiences with various features of Rexton Reach.
Speech in Noise: Above Average Performance
One of the most critical factors for hearing aid users is performance in noisy environments. In the HearAdvisor lab, Rexton Reach R-Li T scored a full point (on a 5-point scale) above the average of 81 tested hearing aids, meaning it performs better than most in its class. The multi-track Reach processing allows the hearing aid to analyze sound from different angles and prioritize speech while reducing background noise. In my testing, I found it to be particularly effective in restaurants and social gatherings, where background noise can often drown out conversation.
That said, while the speech enhancement and noise reduction features are excellent, they don’t quite match the most premium hearing aids from brands like Oticon Intent, Starkey Evolv and Edge AI, or Phonak Infinio Sphere, which offer even more nuanced noise suppression through adaptive AI processing. In terms of outward appearance, overall operation, and functionality, Rexton Reach is most similar to the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX.
Speech in Quiet: Excellent Clarity
When tested in quiet environments, the Rexton Reach R-Li T scored 1.19 points above the average. This means voices come through exceptionally clear in one-on-one conversations and when watching TV at home. Rexton's Embedded Speech Preservation Technology does a great job of enhancing speech while maintaining natural sound quality. I found voices to be crisp and well-articulated, with minimal distortion, even in soft-spoken conversations.
Feedback Handling and Own Voice Perception
Two factors that can lead to dissatisfaction with hearing aids are when the device starts whistling or squealing (feedback) and the perception that your own voice sounds hollow or like you're speaking out of a barrel (occlusion). Reach scored above average on feedback handling and well above average on occlusion results compared to other hearing aids tested.
Streaming Music: Slightly Below Average
One of the few downsides I found was the performance of the Reach R-Li T when streaming music. It scored 0.62 points below average, indicating that music reproduction lacks some depth and richness compared to competitors. While speech streaming is clear, the music felt a bit flat and lacking in bass. This is likely due to the limited frequency range of the drivers compared to some of the more music-focused hearing aids like Widex Moment Sheer or ReSound Vivia. If music streaming is a high priority, I would suggest testing these hearing aids before committing.

Rexton Reach in Real-life Use: Beyond Sound Performance
Here are some of my observations along with HearingTracker's analysis of the Rexton R-Li T hearing aid features.
Modern, Sleek, and Discreet
The Rexton Reach R-Li T follows the modern behind-the-ear (BTE) design, with a receiver-in-canal (RIC) style. It’s available in a variety of colors, ranging from discreet tones like beige and brown to bold options like black and silver. The earwire design and overall ergonomics make it very comfortable, even for extended wear. In my testing, I found the fit to be secure yet lightweight, making it a great option for all-day use.
Battery Life: Industry-Leading
A standout feature of the Reach R-Li T is its battery life.
- Up to 39 hours of use per charge (34 hours with 5 hours of streaming)
- Full recharge in 3–4 hours
- Portable travel charger included
This is one of the longest-lasting rechargeable hearing aids available today, only rivaled by Signia’s flagship models and Starkey Edge AI. While some hearing aids recharge faster, the exceptional battery life makes up for the slightly longer charge time.
Along with daily usage, long battery life can also be important for the practical life of the hearing aid. The Lithium-ion batteries in hearing aids degrade in power just like those in your cell phone, losing their efficiency each year. Thus, the longer battery life in Rexton Reach means you have some power to spare once the devices start hitting the 5+ year mark.
Connectivity and Bluetooth Streaming
- Fully compatible with both iOS and Android
- Supports Bluetooth LE and Auracast (future-proof)
- Hands-free calling on iPhones (Android users need to speak into their phone for calls but will hear the person on the line through the hearing aids)
- Easy control via the Rexton App
The Bluetooth connectivity is excellent, with a strong and stable connection for both streaming and calls. The addition of Bluetooth LE and Auracast ensures that the Reach R-Li T is ready for next-generation wireless audio streaming. The hands-free calling on iPhones is a great feature, allowing users to answer calls without touching their phones.
App Features: One of the Best
The Rexton App is one of the most user-friendly hearing aid apps I’ve tested. It offers:
- Customizable sound adjustments
- Directional microphone control
- Mask Mode (enhances speech clarity for mask-wearing situations)
- Battery level monitoring
The intuitive design and responsive controls make it easy for users to fine-tune their hearing aids without visiting a provider.
Build Quality and Durability: Top-Tier
The Rexton Reach R-Li T scored 4.9 out of 5 for build quality, which is among the best in its category.
- IP68-rated (dustproof and waterproof up to 2m for 30 minutes)
- Robust charging case
- ATEX-certified for hazardous environments
This hearing aid is built to withstand tough conditions, making it an excellent option for active users or those in demanding environments. They are available in four colors: rose gold, dark champaign, sand brown, and almost black
Handling and Ease of Use
The Rexton Reach R-Li T scored 4.5 for handling, which indicates that it’s generally easy to use but may require some practice for first-time users. The hearing aid insertion process is straightforward, and once properly set up by a hearing care provider, daily operation is hassle-free with minimal maintenance.
Pro Support: A Strong Offering with Some Caveats
One major advantage of buying from Costco is the included professional support. Users can expect thorough hearing tests, proper fitting, and follow-up care. Additionally, the Rexton App enhances the experience by allowing remote adjustments and feedback sharing with providers.
Putting aside the Rexton brand for a moment (i.e., this applies to all Costco hearing aids), we will caution that Costco hearing care providers are usually very busy. Although they're generally good at what they do, Costco providers often don't have a lot of time for in-depth, personalized service and troubleshooting. If you have a more severe or complex hearing loss or need help with tinnitus relief or other issues, you'll probably be better served by visiting an audiology clinic or independent practice that can devote the necessary time to address your individual needs.
Final Verdict: Rexton Reach is an Excellent Value
With a price of $1,499 per pair, the Rexton Reach R-Li T falls into the lowest-priced prescription category. Given its premium features, outstanding battery life, and strong Bluetooth connectivity, it delivers excellent value for the money. Many comparable hearing aids from major brands cost twice as much without offering significantly better performance.
Overall Rating: 4.6/5
The Rexton Reach R-Li T is a well-rounded, feature-packed hearing aid that excels in speech clarity, battery life, and connectivity. It offers premium-level performance at a mid-range price, making it one of the best-value hearing aids available at Costco today. If music streaming isn’t a top priority, this hearing aid is an excellent choice for most users.
