You can get hearing aids at Costco that can provide amplification that reaches well into the severe hearing loss category. However, although most Costco hearing providers are good at what they do and capable of helping people with more severe levels of hearing loss, most don't have the available time to optimally treat people with more complex hearing needs. In fact, we know of some Costco Hearing Centers that refer people with more severe losses to area practices and clinics that can devote more individualized care and the time required for this patient group. In general, if you have a more severe hearing loss, your best course is to seek out a good audiologist or hearing aid specialist who adheres to best practices.

ReSound has long been known for producing some of the world's best "big boomer" hearing aids—devices with loud amplification (high outputs)—for people with severe to profound hearing losses. In the past, due to the need to generate high-volume sounds, these hearing aids were forced to make significant compromises in battery life, comfort, size, and aesthetics. Not so much anymore.
ReSound Enzo IA, launched in August 2025, is the world’s smallest rechargeable Super Power hearing aid. It combines cutting-edge AI-driven speech-in-noise processing and beamforming tech, next-gen connectivity, and up to 28 hours of battery life in a surprisingly sleek, traditional behind-the-ear (BTE) form factor. Enzo IA replaces ReSound's previous-generation super-power hearing aid, Enzo Q.

Dr. Christensen says that ReSound established “four non-negotiable priorities” when developing Enzo IA:
1) New Tech for Speech in Noise Performance and Feedback Management
At the core of Enzo IA lies Intelligence Augmented™, powered by ReSound’s 360 chip, which continuously analyzes environmental sounds and automatically adapts settings for seamless listening. This means there is constant real-time scanning and classification of your environment followed by adjustments in gain, noise reduction, and directionality of the microphones.
Clear Focus, a four‑microphone beamformer—said to be the narrowest-focusing in the industry—spotlights speech and delivers a 2.7 dB boost in SNR compared to their previous model. In noisy places, this is designed to cut out much of the background noise while focusing on the speaker or sound source directly in front of you. A ReSound study shows that it garnered a 93% user preference in noisy situations.
Enzo IA's feedback management, DFS Ultra III, outperforms peers by providing higher stable gain without unwanted whistling. ReSound claims this is a best-in-class technology, providing the most added stable gain (volume) before feedback occurs. This means you can get more usable volume without the annoying whistling and squealing that have historically plagued "big boomer" hearing aids whenever you get something close to the hearing aid microphones, as when putting on a hat or giving someone a hug.
However, we'll point out that, due primarily to size and power constraints, Enzo IA does not have a separate, dedicated Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing chip, as found in the company's flagship product, the ReSound Vivia miniRIE.
2) All-day Rechargeable Battery Life
Rechargeability is a standout feature for Enzo IA. It eliminates battery anxiety by packing up to 28 hours of listening time per charge, or 20 hours when streaming half the time. Fast-charged and managed via the ReSound Smart 3D™ app, users always know their status.
Enzo IA comes with a Desktop Charger that you simply drop the hearing aids into for easy charging. The charger uses a USB-C charging cable to connect with a power source, but unlike some chargers, it does not carry any extra charges, nor is it designed for use as a portable case (but this is not unusual for a power aid).

3) Super Power Amplification
The Enzo IA provides one of the strongest levels of amplification available in hearing aids, making it highly suitable for individuals with significant hearing loss.

ReSound Smart 3D App
You can customize your listening experience with the ReSound Smart 3D app, which assist with onboarding and lets you control settings, check battery levels, and personalize your hearing preferences on the go.
The app also supports remote fine-tuning by your hearing provider, which is especially helpful for making adjustments without visiting a clinic. The ReSound Assist feature enables you to schedule video-based remote appointments with your provider for real-time adjustments. If a live session isn’t necessary, you can also request programming updates, which your provider can send remotely for you to download and install on your hearing aids. Keep in mind that not all clinics offer remote services, so check with your provider.
A Find My Hearing Aids feature is included in the Smart 3D App, allowing you to see where and when the hearing aid was last connected to the app. While ReSound Enzo IA has push-buttons and tap controls and is designed to operate automatically, you’d miss out if you didn’t install and use the app.

- TV-Streamer+ — Streams TV audio directly to your aids at your preferred volume. The small box connects to your TV and supplies Auracast broadcasts directly to your hearing aids.
- Multi-Mic+ — A small pocket-friendly remote microphone that you can set on a table, clip to a companion's shirt/blouse, or place on a lectern to transmit sound directly to your hearing aid, dramatically improving your ability to hear speech and other audio in noisy environments. It can capture speech up to about 82 feet away and adds approximately 6 dB SNR advantage over omnidirectional. This system uses Auracast, and you can broadcast sound to multiple listeners. It also connects to other devices like induction loops and FM systems.

The Previous-Gen Enzo Q
Launched in 2019, Enzo Q has been ReSound’s go-to high-powered BTE for users with severe to profound hearing loss for the past 6 years. The key differentiators of Enzo IA over Enzo Q are the all-day rechargeability with 28 hours of battery life, significantly better hearing in noise, and the cutting-edge Bluetooth LE and Auracast connectivity.

However, Enzo Q is still an excellent power hearing aid. It offers substantial gain, clear sound, trusted noise-management features like Binaural Directionality and NoiseTracker II, Bluetooth streaming, remote fine-tuning, and accessory compatibility. While still available in select markets, Enzo Q has now been succeeded by Enzo IA.
The Downside of Super Power Hearing Aids
As noted earlier, there are far fewer compromises in today's Super Power hearing aids compared to just 5-10 years ago. However, two notable ones remain:
- Slightly larger size: Although smaller than other power hearing aids, Enzo IA and Q are traditional BTEs that are larger than many other hearing aids—including the ReSound Vivia and Nexia RICs—due chiefly to the powerful amplification they provide. This size is a consideration for users who prefer a more discreet device.
- More skill required: People who use power hearing aids often have what audiologists call a reduced dynamic range. This means the gap between the softest sound they can hear and the loudest sound they can tolerate is much smaller than normal. For example, imagine you can only just detect sounds at 70 dB, but anything above 100 dB feels painfully loud. With such a narrow range to work with, your audiologist needs to be highly experienced with power aids to ensure you get the clearest, most comfortable sound possible.

Final Verdict
Because the HearAdvisor lab uses test protocols geared for mild-to-moderate hearing loss (N3 configuration), it currently has not tested Enzo IA or any other power hearing aid at this writing. However, based on ReSound's history in producing some of the industry's best power aids and the chip platform used in Enzo IA (the same 360 chip used in ReSound Vivia and Nexia), Enzo IA is almost certainly a top pick for people with severe to profound hearing loss.
ReSound's former super-power BTE, Enzo Q, was among the best power aids available, and Enzo IA improves upon its design with 28 hours of rechargeable battery life, AI-driven speech-in-noise and ClearFocus directionality, as well as representing the industry's only Bluetooth LE power aid with Auracast connectivity.
As noted above, it has been a while since a global hearing aid manufacturer has made a major update to its super-power BTE hearing aid for people with severe to profound hearing loss, as the focus has been on the far larger market of receiver-in-canal (RIC) aids for people with moderate to severe losses. Alternatives to ReSound Enzo IA
If you have a severe to profound hearing loss, it's unlikely you'll benefit much from over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids that are specifically designed (i.e., limited in amplification) for mild to moderate losses; that means a prescription hearing aid from an audiologist who adheres to best practices is your best bet.
However, you may be able to get styles beyond a BTE. If you have a hearing loss that is not too severe, your hearing provider may be able to offer options that include in-the-ear (ITE) and in-the-canal (ITC) styles, as well as receiver-in-canal (RIC) models. These RICs resemble BTEs but feature a more discreet wire connecting the hearing aid body to a receiver in the ear, rather than the BTE's acoustic tubing connecting the device to a custom earmold.
