CMS Proposes Broadening Medicare Coverage for Cochlear Implants
CMS is proposing broadened Medicare coverage for cochlear implantation from ≤40% correct to ≤60% correct in the best-aided listening condition on tape-recorded tests of open-set sentence recognition. CMS reached their conclusion after reviewing a recent consensus paper along with close to a dozen research studies that strongly suggest cochlear implantation in older adults is safe and effective and may facilitate healthy aging in adults with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
