Benefits of amplification for unaided speech discrimination in age-related hearing loss with flat audiograms

Although there are several caveats in the results of this study, the researchers found that over half of older patients with flat audiograms who used their hearing aids for more than 8 hours/day improved their unaided maximum speech discrimination scores by 10% or more. There was no significant improvement in groups with other types of audiograms.

Hearing Aid Sales Flatten in 2022 Due to Economic Headwinds

U.S. net hearing aid sales in 2022 increased nominally by 0.8% in 2022, or about 36,000 more units than in 2021 when pent-up demand caused sales to surge by 37% following the pandemic. In 2022, there was a -0.6% decline in units dispensed by the private/commercial market and a 7.2% increase for the VA.
