Can I purchase an extended warranty for my hearing aids (beyond my 3 year warranty)? Is it worth it?

Hello!  Yes, you are able to extend your warranty.  Talk to your hearing care provider for specific costs.  Most manufacturers will gladly extend your warranty for another year for a relatively low fee.  If you are worried about loss replacement, it is also a good idea to visit with your insurance carrier.  They can often create a small policy for your devices, or add your hearing aids to your homeowners policy.

As to it's worth, it depends on how often your aids may need repair.  If you aren't worried about loss coverage, it is often less expensive to wait until a repair is required, and then opt for a one year warranty with your repair.

Some manufactures allow you to buy extended warranty on hearing aids. It really depends on how well you think they are working for you. If you feel like they are working well for you it may be worth it, however if you loss has gotten worse then it would just be a question of if they are providing enough power for you.

You can purchase extended warranties up to 5 years as long as the hearing instruments stay under warranty. There is several different companies that can offer extended warranties. I question if it is a value due to the non issues we have with hearing instruments now. However patients who lose hearing instruments or are hard on their hearing instruments it may pay off in the long run.

Extended warranties are available from many manufacturers.  You can purchase additional repair warranty and loss and damage coverage for additional one year periods not to exceed a total of five years from the date of purchase.  So if the factory warranty was three years you could extend the warranty twice.  There are also third-party warranty companies who sell extended warranties.  Their coverage may vary from the manufacturer's coverage so be sure to read all the fine print.  In most cases an out-of-warranty factory repair comes back with 6 to 12 months of additional repair warranty and is less money than an extended warranty but you do not get loss and damage coverage with it.  Some patients prefer the peace of mind that comes with the extended warranty that includes loss and damage coverage.  Is it worth it?  The peace of mind has intrinsic value.  Mechanical repairs are cheaper to pay for the repair and get the extra warranty with it instead of buying the extended warranty.  But if you lose the hearing aid then the deductible with the loss and damage coverage is much cheaper than paying for a new hearing aid out of pocket.  So like most other insurances it is a bargain if you need it and expensive if you don't use it.

It depends on the manufacturer. Some manufacturers will allow you to purchase an extended warranty up to four years from the purchase date, with some manufacturers requiring this to be purchased at the time of purchase.

I generally recommend against purchasing extended repair warranties, as you receive an extended repair warranty of either 6 or 12 months from the manufacturer if you have to send your hearing aid in for repair when it is out of warranty (less money out of your pocket and you are only paying for what you actually use!). Once the hearing aids are more than five years past the purchase date, most manufacturers will only warranty repairs for up to six months.

However, it is a good idea to extend your loss and damage warranty. Again, it differs from manufacturer, but they will generally allow extensions up to four years from the purchase date. There are also hearing aid insurance companies (eg: Esco) that will insure your hearing aid against loss or damage beyond repair that are available regardless of how old the hearing aid is, or if it has been replaced by the manufacturer before. You can also inquire with your homeowners insurance, as some will allow you to add your hearing aids to your policy.

Yes you may purchase an extended warranty from your audiology provider. Your devices usually come with a limited warranty, either one, two or three years, depending on the manufacturer and technology level. In many cases, an extended warranty may not be offered by the practitioner until the end of the standard warranty is near. In my office, patients get a reminder that the warranty is expiring soon and suggest that it is a good time to come in for hearing aid maintenance.

It depends on the Manufacurer, most require you to get extended warranties at time of purchase.  I do know that you can get an extended warranty at/near the end of your warranty from Starkey.
