About Oticon Opn
Opn™ is Oticon's newest hearing aid family. Running on Oticon's new Velox™ Platform, the Opn™ will process data 50x faster than Oticon's previous processing platform, "Inium Sense." Oticon has also bumped the number of frequency processing channels to 64 and added an environmental analysis that runs in excess of 100x per second. Oticon claims that all this processing power has helped them to achieve better speech understanding, reduced listening effort, and an increase the ability to remember conversations.
Aside from processing improvements the Oticon Opn™ miniRITE is the first Oticon hearing have direct iPhone connectivity. This means no more intermediary device necessary to stream audio, phone calls, etc, from your iPhone (or compatible iOS device). From Oticon's marketing materials: Oticon Opn is compatible with iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th and 6th generation). Devices must be running iOS 9.3 or later.
Opn™ may be paired with the TV Adapter 3.0 for a 2.4GHz audio streaming solution for television. Again, no intermediary device is required. For more information on this solution, check out the technical data sheet.
One last very interesting improvement: Oticon is the first hearing aid manufacturer to add an integration with the If This Then That (IFTTT) network, which effectively enables Opn™ users to control their home via "Internet of Things (IoT)" Not sure what that means? You're not alone! Here's a brief description of IoT from Wikipedia: The internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical objects—devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit; when IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020.
So what does having your hearing aid connected to IFTTT/IoT mean for you anyway? In Oticon's own words: The Oticon ON app unlocks the power of the internet of things. IFTTT (If This Then That) is an ever expanding internet-based service, which enables you to integrate your hearing solution with a vast range of online products and solutions such as your home lighting, doorbell, alarm system, and mobile phone. Oticon Opn Reviews
Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome ... Continue reading

Overall Ratings
Hearing Tracker uses a ten-question survey to assess consumer feedback on hearing aids. The percentage bars below reflect the average ratings provided per question, averaged across all hearing aids belonging to this family of devices.
Note: Original answers provided in star rating format.

Nothing wrong with them in the context of their generation but having to use a connectclip with my laptop or an android device is somewhat annoying.
I also wish they had the ability to function by themselves as a headset without an external mic or use of the phone mic

Too humidity sensitive. Random beeping. Random shutdown. Lengthy servicing. No improvement after servicing. "Hearing Specialist" either not trained properly or didn't care.

very dependable, comfortable, and good quality sound

I have the rechargeable miniRite variety. They have been plagued with problems almost since buying them (Sept 2018) and as a consequence were returned to Oticon for service which failed to resolve the issues. My aids switch off and be-boot from time to time; streaming is beset by sound drop out, albeit minor but enough to spoil my enjoyment of music. Rechargeable batteries seem to fail regularly and pairing is a nightmare.
I am happy that they improve my hearing; I suffer from mild to moderate age-related sound loss but the persistent faults spoil my satisfaction of an expensive product.

Likes:
- Sound quality: Sound quality is generally excellent--I first got hearing aids in the early 1990s and have gone between full size BTE, CIC, and mini-RTE hearing aids from Siemens, Starkey, Oticon, and one other brand I'm drawing a blank on over the years, and as far as I can remember over the past 25+ years, these generally provide the best sound quality.
- Comfort: I have the mini-RTE version of the OPN 1 and they are comfortable. I generally wear them for approximately 16 hours per day and rarely ever have any physical ear fatigue.
Dislikes:
- Battery life: I generally get 4-5 days out of the 312 batteries, sometimes as little as 3.5 days and rarely more than 5 days.
- Moisture: I am a swim coach and am standing on an indoor pool deck for approximately 3 hours per day, 5 days a week. Since I got these hearing aids in late 2017, I have sent both back in twice for refurbishment under warranty due to moisture caused malfunctions, and both are malfunctioning again. I put the hearing aids overnight in a UV/air dryer every night and the only exposure they get to moisture is when my hair's wet right after a shower, when I sweat, and when I'm on the humid pool deck. These hearing aids have been far more susceptible to moisture damage than any of the other hearing aids I've owned, as I've had similar daily routines for decades and never had this quantity of moisture caused issues with any of the other aids.
- Bluetooth: I understand this is a common issue across pretty much all hearing aid brands and models, but I don't like that the hearing aids can't just connect to various audio devices via bluetooth like my headphones can, sans accessories.

Whilst I get some hearing improvement and the 4 modes do change the hearing effect I still struggle badly in crowded environments to the point I remove the aids and just "go with the flow"
Recently the aids seem to have gone out of balance(wax guards changed regularly) and one has an intermittent connection . Out of warranty so will be interesting to see what Oticon want to repair.
Local agent wanted £1250 for a years maintenance contract! crazy.
Overall I do not feel they were good value for money and the performance compared with NHS (Oticons) is definitely not worth it .

Unable to pair + use to multiple iPhones and unable to pair to Android using ASHA
Limited number of programs. Makes it hard to use multiple TV adapters, etc.

Its a great asset to my hearing the only problem I have with it is that during a long phone conversation or listening to a podcast the speaker in one ear or the other breaks down and drops out

I wear the OPN1 mini rites and am really happy with everything about them, comfort, I have very few problems with tinitis now since I started wearing them just over 18 months ago, I am very happy with fact that I know I can hear everything I need to now, when I go anywhere.

The general assessment I make of the device is that it is a great option.
Weaknesses:
-he gets lost with the feeedback cancellation and this is a platform problem that the pro
Oticon itself recognized and corrected in the later generation, OPN S
-the fact of not having direct connectivity with Android smartphones and need an adapter for that
-the simplicity of the application for smartphones, which has only basic functions, such as increasing volume and usage history
Strong points
- direct connectivity to iphone
-the stability of the connection with iphones
-noise management and environment transition is virtually imperceptible
-the quality of sound processing
- low power consumption
-use of relatively small batteries (312 in the miniRITE model)
-the wide range of colors

Hi I am currently trying the phonak hearing aide and I'm struggling with it ! I have the oticon sumo and love them but one of them is broken and you can't get these anymore ! How are you liking the newer version of oticon ?
I can't handle all the background noise ! I have been wearing hearing aides my whole life and I need the full power !
I value your opinion!
Thank you,
Denise
I'm happy with the Opns. Streaming to multiple devices is a key capability for me and they do it quite well, at least, much better than the Phonak Audéo Marvels. My hearing is also a lot better. Previously having only one hearing aid and upgrading to two, I didn't think I would notice as much difference in my better ear. However, I really notice the difference when I remove them after work.
As for your particular consideration about background noise, I'm not sure what to say. Background noise is always a problem. The hearing aids reduce the problem, but they don't completely eliminate it.
If you can do an evaluation before you commit to making a purchase, that would be a good way of finding if they will make the difference for you.
Also, the Opn S was announced and it will be available very soon. I recommend you wait for it. (I will probably switch to them, since they were announced less than a week after I purchased the Opn 1s.)

The best hearing aids I ever have had so far

My speech understanding is about the same no improvement.
