Eargo Neo HiFi Reviews
Hearing aid reviews are fundamentally different from reviews for most other consumer electronic products. The reason is because individual factors, like degree of hearing loss, have a profound effect one's success and overall satisfaction with the product. When purchasing a hearing aid, you'll need to consider more than just your hearing outcome ... Continue readingWrite a Review

Hearing quality is excellent and even superior to my Neo that I have used for 2 1/2years. Speech quality is crisp and clean. The enhanced cleaning process of the 5 microphone is a major improvement over Neo in which inspissated wax and oil in the microphone was a problem despite my rigorous daily cleaning routine (including use of a hearing device dehumidifier over night). The ability to remove the microphone cover, clean and replace should be a significant improvement.
Only dislike is the inability to utilize all the functions of the 5 app, because the full function of the app is not supported on my PALM smart phone (Android operating system).
They work great, as promised. Sound is very good, as is the fit.
I have been a long time customer of Eargo, and for good reason. They have helped me not only hear, but reconnect with the world. The Neo HiFi is no exception to this. I love the HiFi. Comparing them directly to the Neo, there is a very discernible difference in sound. Things are more crisp, more boosted, and in my opinion, more dialed in when you work with their incredible team of audiologist.
The fist week you wear them, you will notice them in your ears. There’s a bit of an itch while you get acclimated. After that, you don’t even know they’re there. You just hear better. The tips you get with them give you enough options to find the appropriate fit.
If you’re considering buying them, I would say they’re definitely worth every penny. Just make sure to take advantage of their free hearing test, and check out their free dummy units so you can see how they fit before you buy if you’re still skeptical. Also, definitely take advantage of their audiology services. Their staff really cares, and wants you to have the best hearing possible based off of your hearing deficit. You won’t regret it!
Buyer Beware - Particularly if you have heavy earwax!
My experience with Eargo Neo HiFi has been extremely frustrating. I have spent countless times contacting Eargo (with long waits on hold). Despite the fact that I have carefully cleaned and probably replaced wax guards too often I am plagued by unreliable hearing aids.
I ordered Eargo Neo HiFi on April 25, 2021. They worked briefly until early May. After several conversations with your representative I ordered a replacement for the right ear on May 11. The left ear aid showed no amplification in late June. Again, after speaking with your representatives I ordered a replacement on July 2. The left failed again and I ordered a replacement after discussing with your representative on July 20. In early August both failed. The left just quit amplifying after a short time, the right would suddenly squeal for about 10 seconds and die. The right hearing aid died again Sept 29. It was replaced in about a week. The left died in mid-October.
I have used up most of my wax guards as I have replaced numerous times to see if that made a difference. I have tried an electric toothbrush, as one representative suggested, used separate brushes on microphone and speaker end, and flushed with compressed air.
I was advised that my replacements showed signs of wax getting under the microphone cover. I seem to secrete a relatively large amount of earwax but did not find out that wax under the cover could be the basis for my problem.
I asked about returns and was told that I was outside my 45 day return period despite never having had 45 day of use without failure. Either there is a quality control problem on the Eargo Neo Hi Fi or they are somehow unsuitable for me.
Notably they have recognized the problem and made it possible to clean the microphone end with a removable cap in Eargo 5.
I have had the eargo hi fi for about a year now and had to replace the right one once and the left one twice already because the microphone end gets plugged up so easy and there is no way to clean or change this filter. The inner filters are changeable. The new eargo 5 has a way to clean the mic filters, they will not exchange the hifi for some credit so your SOL. If your thinking of these get the neo 5 latest ones.
I like the fact that they do not block ambient low frequency sounds that I've become accustom to, like jets, trains, thunder, etc.
They are so comfortable in my ears that I sometimes forget that I'm wearing them.
I can hear women's and children's voices again, instead of just screeching sounds.
They do not amplify wind noise and tire sizzle in the car, and I can now hear the car stereo again.
The charging pod/storage case is a stroke of genius. However, your instructions should have explained how to open it. I was about to take my pocket knife to it when my daughter intervened.
Conclusion: After trying about 4-5 other hearing aids costing up to $6000, these are the best so far, by far.
I've been saying for years that if they can sell a 60" LED Hi-Def TV for $700, hearing aids, should cost no more. You've proved me to be correct.
Easy to use. At first the high frequencies were uncomfortable, but I got used to it.
I really like my Eargo hearing aids. They are so easy to use and comfortable. I can hear sounds that I never noticed before. I recommend this hearing aids to my friends.
They fit in the ears comfortably and no one knows you have them, I can hear stuff I've forgot even existed, It is easy to change the programs with the blue tooth, and once programmed it is easy to change between settings when you are wearing them, although people look confused when you are tapping your ears.
Clarity! It’s so comfortable and hidden!
At this time, I am having to actually slap myself on the ear for the programs to change. I have tried tapping the ear as shown in the videos. however, it doesn't seem to work. I also get a very high pitched feedback when I cover my ear in an attempt to change programs.
The only problem is answering the phone, tilting seams to help. So far it appears to be a great system.
Overall, they are great. I still sound funny, but it is getting better.
they work very well, and have a great time hearing everything for a change
Liked very much.👌🏼
Tiny easy to use and reasonably priced. Love them . Lots of support.
Hear better and more distinct.
They have very comfortable feeling in my ears.
Easy to put on and off
And know that I can call with questions.
Small size, easy to use, and easy to adjust volume
Very comfortable and easy to manage with the well designed charging dev
Ok but not as good as I expected. Had issues with one of the right aid and than with the charging device. Did not start off well the meeting with the audiologist fix things a lot better and we are moving forward.
I disliked nothing. They are great!!! The more I use them the more it becomes natural.
I’ve had no issues. My wife is pleased also. She doesn’t have to repeat herself as much. I’ve had no itching or big adjustments to make. I’m only on level one but so far I like them. My only complaint is calling EarGo twice and not getting a call back. I sat on hold for 28 mins and got tired of waiting. I hope this is not one of those companies that once the sale is made, you can never talk to them again. I have questions in charging.
Excellent! I love the my new Eargo Neo HiFi.
I find difficult to lower the volume when I first put the hearing aids on
Great product. I don't have to keep saying "huh?"
It works well, even with a little trial and error. I learned about the phone before the video by just as was said in the video tilting the phone.
I like that they are not noticeable. Well nearly. The right one doesn’t fit as well as the left even with the smaller size so the left sticks out a little more.
I would have liked them to be Bluetooth but I realize that with this size that is not possible.
I would also like to be able to turn them off without removing them.
So far I’m trying to adapt and it’s going better than I expected.
I have a big problem with the charger lights not knowing if it is changed properly lights don’t stay lit
There’s nothing that I dislike about them so far.
Too early to summarize, but so far so good!
Love the discrete look and the rechargeble feature.
Have no idea what it I am supposed to experience.
The rechargeable batteries are great. It was a pain to change the battery all the time. Still getting use to the, in the ear, hearing aids.
Slapping ears to change programs hurts and certainly looks crazy 🙃
I'm doing good with my new Eargo hearing aids 😁 I'm getting used to all the functions have clean them and I'm able to hear when people talk to me thank God
The fit wasn't very easy. Left ear was a snap but right ear is still not perfect even though I changed the fritillary.
Stays in place does not get in way of hair or masks
easy to wear easy to put on doesn't get in hair or face mask
A wonderful surprise. The clarity of the sound of people speaking and the lesser volume of the background noises. Couple that with the comfortable fit and they can’t be seen. It’s a winner in my book.
They are comfortable to wear all day which isn't true for my old hearing aids. The rechargeable aspect is great, no messing with batteries or running out of battery life at inopportune times.
I Like my hearing aids very much, only a few adjustment comments: they cause pressure in my ear canals, especially while chewing. Also the “outside” noises are extremely loud...traffic, people talking, birds chattering...as well as rustling paper or silverware on a table or plate. Still haven’t gotten used to it all!
I love the size, that they are rechargeable, nearly invisible, don’t hang over my ear, as well as improving my hearing!
Having problems getting Eargos properly situated in my left ear
Having a little trouble with the left hearing aid. I sometimes fall asleep with them on and the left aid tells me that battery is low, but the right one does not. I am having a call from Eargo next Friday so I will ask about this then.
So far the devices are doing a good job. I have trouble getting them into my ears properly. I figure with more experience they may become easier to install. I just downloaded the Eargo app and it is really comprehensive. I will be trying several of the different programs that one can load. They really make it easy to download a program get it programs to work on the devices. I am looking forward to experiencing the differences to see if there is a better program for my hearing problem. Time will tell.
I am not much for words detailing any sort of experience, but I do guarantee EARGO & company I am more than happy & satisfied with them, thank you, mhr.
They have done more than I expected them to do. I’ve been in small groups and in a fairly large meeting and they allowed me to do my job....I’m the recording secretary of my volunteer fire department and I had no problem taking the minutes of the meeting. I am impressed not only with the Eargo product, but also with the Eargo support staff.
Love love love I can hear!! My family is very happy too!
phone issues and still have trouble hearing my wife ( this might be selective hearing)
I have to get used to the charging the ear go
I most like the clarity of voices I hear.
Haven't figured it out yet. Still getting use to them, when I remember to put them in.
The fit. Haven’t quite got the left ear right.
I like my eargos it took a few days to get used to sounds I have not heard for a long time. After 2 weeks it all seems very natural. I'm glad that I have them.
Easy to use, lots of help available.
Wish you could adjust without having to remove from ear and return to the charger
Charging module is a little tricky to get Eargo’s to start charging with the pin alignment
Well, I can't stop smiling....hearing everything is wonderful! I'm socializing more and enjoying music and tv. I feel so at home with them that I have forgotten to take them out to charge...and even jumped in the shower...but jumped out once I heard the water. I love them, It's like trying different flavors after only having vanilla. I love them!
I can hear the tv with a lower sound now and i can understand people better when they are talking.
Excellent hearing with eargo and easy to adjust.
The clarity is very good. Eargo are very comfortable to wear. I love the quality and the fit.
Lightweight and very comfortable! They have many settings for all kinds of situations and work great!
I wish that there were not just three levels to the base and treble settings. That you could freely set them up and down to the level you like. There should also be a place you can look up what hearing changes you should expect when changing you settings. Example what is the difference you should hear from the theater setting than that of TV. Or that of crowd and restaurant. both of those I am assuming are for controlling back ground noise but what is the difference?
I love the ease of using the hearing aids. They are easy to keep clean and have made a noticeable effect on my hearing.
Having a little difficulty in charging right hearing aid in charger. I have to jiggle and re-position hearing aid for quite a while to get it just right and have internal light go on and charging begin. Any suggestions? I clean contacts with cleaning cloth every night. But, I just love my Eargo hearing aids and feel the miracle in my ears every morning!
I love them. Still need to load app. Thank you. I have hearing at 70%.
The fit and feel. Hardly know they’re in my ear. Comfortable to wear all day.
Only problem -- The right works well and is clear -- The left one is not as clear
Biggest difficulty, so far, has been the anxiety of forgetting to take them out before showering. The improvement in group conversations and listening to music has been remarkable.
They are very comfortable and the sound quality is very good.
I don't like having to place the aids in the charger to make adjustments.
I'm not sure they are fitting in my ears correctly.
Great, comfortable, no wind whistling over the microphone like the over the pair I was using. Still experimenting with the programs, but program 3 with environment setting in crowd mode seems to be the best all around setting for me.
Need help getting everything set up. Getting a lot of low lower ringing(feedback, I think).
They are so comfortable, I forget they are there.
Don’t have to take them out when I remove my mask
Helps with hearing my wife and TV volume.
Still experimenting. havn't used app yet to see if bass and treble adjustment helps. Like charger. Aids seem to stay in place, was afraid of losing them. Comfortable. Havn't figured out how far to insert in ear for best hearing. Hard to tell watching TV as programs and commercial sound levels keep changing.
Very clear and easy to use. The charging station is easy to use. I have been telling a number of people about them. Thanks for all the help.
I found them very easy to understand how to use them ,I like that they’re small I like that they have a charging case I like that they have a long charge on them..
What’s not to like? I’m amazed by them!!
Easy to put into ears, sound is good, charging is very convenient and fast.
I have found nothing to dislike.
The hardest thing is getting used to hearing better than I have in the past. The online instructions are great.
Sometimes it seems like both eargos just stop working. I put them on the charger, and it shows the eargos are still charged. I have experienced a lot of feedback, mostly when I put them too far into my ears.
No batteries! Very convenient receptical !
Insertion more difficult than anticipated
I can hear better and I do not have to have people repeat what they said.
So far, so good. No problems with the unit
They move back out of the ear canal over time
You cannot have anything cover your ears.
Shape not optimal for one of my ear canals
I could hear everything. Made a difference on watching TV.
Like hearing the world for the first time. Get more background noise in some cases but have not heard in so long not a problem. So far the only problem I have encountered is they run out of charge in about nine hours and the charger takes overnight to recharge. Even cleaning with alcohol Q-tip it sometimes does not charge to full. This may wear out as time goes on. No real complaints to speak of.
Haven’t got used to it yet. Still working on it.
I love their design, rechargability, and the fact that I can control volume.
I’ve had my Eargo’s for two weeks and my quality of life has greatly improved and my wife is much happier too.
I would recommend Eargo’s. There easy to use and maintain and no batteries.
There are several videos on line that are very helpful and if that’s not your style just call Eargo and their customer service team will gladly help you out.
I’m hearing things like I did in my younger days.
Like that they're in the air and I'm not talking in the vacuum easy to wear comfortable forget I have them in
hearing improved. Service was really great.
I am enjoying my Eargo i am hear thing that i haven't heard in a long time i like them very much i will buy them again customer service was very nice everybody that i talk to was very nice they answer all my question thank you very much and keep up the good work and be safe.
They fit really comfortably and can’t be seen when your wearing them
I disliked microphone noise in left ergo . It happens intermittingly when listening to music in car.
Eargo has a product and process for making the first time user of a hearing aid, easy and comfortable. The commitment to customer satisfaction and support is unmatched. I'm glad I acted on improving my hearing by going with Eargo.
I am old and have big arthritic hands. Wanted the recharging so I didn’t need to fight tiny batteries. Theater are a little difficult.
It has been simple and easy to use . Two nights I fell asleep and awoke a few minutes later with them still in my ears. They're comfortable.
Still adjusting to having items, like hoodie on my sweat jacket cause feedback. And of course a bit in phone adjustments. Overall, however, I'm enjoying sounds I have not heard for years...birds, squirrels, barking dogs, giggling children. My brain is still adjusting too to these background sounds. I'm pleased with my eargos this far.
Charging system doesn't always work easily
Nothing negative to report . Took some time to get use to them.
Just learning and getting adjusted so far.
I am an engineer who founded a major company. The charging system is very sensitive. Too easy not to get the earphones charged properly. But, otherwise the best I have ever used. My hearing difficulties probably started because I did not use proper hear protection when using my chain saw cutting trees for paths on our NH property.
All good. Just adjusting to things sounding loud and hearing people talk 20 yards away! Getting used to using them and some itchy ears. Working very nicely.
Every time I remove and install my EARGOs, l have to go thru the “1,2, etc., volumes. A minor problem but I have been using them just about every day.
Staying away from crowds and self quarantining during this period due to covid susceptibility. So not enough tests with hearing people other than my wife.
Need video on how to change wax guard
I had to send the hearing aids back as they are uncomfortable for my size ear canals, particularly my left ear. They are good hearing aids, the fit in the canal just doesn’t work for my ears.
Very pleased. I've got a good dose of PTSD, and it is alleviated significantly with the Eargos.
Only had them 3 days. So far, so good.
My left unit stopped working after about four days. I contacted Eargo and it was replaced. So far, so good.
Very pleased - have had the aids for only a month and I'm extremely happy.
Any issues that I have had or am having I'm able to work with my specialist.
So far everything has gone well. I don't say "huh" as much to my wife.
Every so often if I am hammering or truck window is open they switch levels.
Also when I put them in in morning it doesn't always say level they are on, even tho I know.
I couldn't read all of the previous print and wondering is it good time to get flexi replacements?
But so far so good. Still getting use to hear my footsteps or certain noises.
Great no real problems working great
Very well, except that they are not holding a full charge for more than 4 hours. I charge them over night, but just recently having the issue. I'm going to change the Flexi Tetrapalms since I have had the Eargos approximately a month to see if that is the problem.
All seems well although there's a little ache/soreness when I take them out after 12 to 16 hours of wearing them.
Makes ear itch
Sounds like I'm in a drum
I can hear myself breath
Some noise seem to be very loud. Some people's speech seem to be very loud. I'm hoping this will improve over time. I now can have the volume on the radio and tv much lower.
I'm really happy with the NEO's. It has improved my hearing considerably from going without, although not as finely tuned as my BTE aids. That may become better by calling in for help again.
The biggest plus for me is being able to wear them, and not have them fall out when I put on or take off my COVID mask, my motorcycle helmet, or when I'm doing strenuous activities.
Still getting used to then. Still don’t see a great change in hearing though it has helped a lot. Right ear needs more volume to bring the hearing 20/20.
Changing programs is problematic, especially tone. Unsure any change was made.
Fine it just takes time to adjust.
They are an improvement.
Great tip from "the amazing Randy" re; use of phone... It is great to be able to make changed to the programs....so far +..plus levels are not always better...the voice that anounces the level has been helpful.... my biggest problem has been finding a good setting for my right ear...it is 10db lower than the left...the left was great with the "out of the box" setting.... Maybe the setting inventory are to much of a good thing.... Having a persistent problem with control of the whistling......
My biggest problem is the units are too comfortable. Wore them for two+ weeks and didn't realize I had lost the right one. Went to take it out at night and it wasn't there. Had to order a new one. Far less expensive than I thought for a replacement.
The canal in my right ear seems to be too small to get the ear bud in so it does stick out a little bit. Is there a smaller one?
I have no idea how long the batteries last. I am charging them as recommended over night.
I am also not sure why I get those question so early in the process of wearing them.
It has improved a great deal. The only negative I have is the occasional feedback and low bass, even after adjusting with the app. It’s doesn’t seem to add any.
So far I am very pleased with the performance of the hearing aids. I am hearing much more clearly and noticing sounds that I wasn't able to hear without them.
Ok so far...
- Would be nice to have known how deep to wear them (maybe pictures?)
- Would be nice if they would be "off" a little longer when inserting them so you have more time to avoid the feedback during insertion
- Would be FABULOUS if you could make adjustments without putting them back in the charger base
- Even better, if they could sync with phone for bluetooth streaming and/or phone direct to earpiece
Still trying to get use to them. I have been experimenting with the 4 programs to see which one works best for me. They tend to feedback a bit as I insert them into my ear canal, but otherwise work very well.
Can't get app to detect my charger
So far, so good.
When listening to music at normal volume there's some distortion.
Using Eargo's app, I've turned down the treble and increased the bass....still sound like the treble is turned up too much.
Wish there were additional programs (more than 4) that could be stored.
As expected. Some technical issues and support issues. When I fully have knowledge of the app, hopefully things will improve.
The only real problem I'm having is getting hold of the little removal cord. Small cord, tight small space, and big fingers don't work well. Other than that I'm quite pleased with the Eargo's.
I had an issue with my right Eargo, I got some feedback on how to fix it and it worked so all is good!
Things are 100% better than before Eargo’s. Very pleased
Things are going great but I do think Eargo is pricey. I would not be able to afford if not for my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.
Great vast improvement from other aids.
The good news, or perhaps the bad news, is that I can now understand what my wife has to say.
Still struggling a bit with insertion, but that will come with time.
Having only worn the aids for three days, some of the questions above may not be my final opinion.
(Great) I love them, just great hearing aid. You have given me my world back.I thank you for your device's.
Left ear still hears virtually nothing. ONCE I heard the voice softly say Program One, Program 2, Program three, Program 4. I don't notice any Dif in the programs. Rt ear is giving lots feed back today on Program 2. I have tried taking aid out , repositioning when replacing. I am trying to use daily to train my brain.
So far EARGO has exceeded my expectations, hearing sounds which I had forgotten even existed!!!
So far great, the clarity is awesome. However, the high pitch voices can still be a challenge at times. Fortunately, the EARGO aids has improved my ability to hear that higher pitch range alot better. Also, it has helped tremendously in eliminating my tinnitus condition when wearing the aids. The flexies design is what I really love as it: 1. Allows for natural sound instead of a muffled sound. 2. I can have my aids secured in my ears, not on the outside. Lastly, RECHARGEABLE!!!
They have given me back my hearing I did not know how bad it had gotten until I received my Eargo hearing aids they are comfortable and work outstanding I love them
Sound quality, especially high frequencies, is excellent. Still getting a some feedback when anything is too close to my ear. The phone environmental setting doesn't really seem to improve the sound of the phone ( I usually just take out the hearing aid when I use the phone. I'm still getting used to them, but overall, so far, I am very satisfied with my Eargos.
So far so good. I scheduled a hearing test on Aug 31 and will akd them to evaluate my eargo WiFi.
I am very pleased with them, but I have not been in to many situations where they will be needed.
I will sometimes get feed back if I bring anything close to my ear, even if I go to scratch my ear or brush my hair back it will screech some. I found that the white ear plug fits the best for me the others seem to slip while I eat or talk a lot. Before the Eargo I could not hear the TV well I would ask my wife to turn up the sound and she would watch Comedy Central on her I phone and I couldn't hear any thing now I can enjoy all the jokes.
Still settling down with the fitting in the ear canal. The manual says there are four volume settings but tapping gives only three. I need more volume in my right ear.
Sometimes they’re way too loud. Would like a volume control.
So far, so good. I am enjoying wearing these where I did NOT like wearing my behind the ear ones. These are really great for me, and for vanity reasons, they are tops! They are very comfortable and are a snap to take care of properly. I'm so glad I "took the plunge" and got these.
Excellent, and superb customer service too.
So far, so good. I wish the removal thread was a tad longer but I’m quickly getting the hang of inserting the hearing devices correctly in my ears.
Some feedback. When watching TV and someone talked to me, have some trouble understanding them.
the only problem i have is there is not enough volume control, which sometimes is too high for a quite setting
So far so good. I immediately noticed a big difference in sound level and clarity and I love them in my ears instead of hanging over them. The only downside right now is the fact that putting them in the charger seems to be a little tricky. Unless you have them in just right they may not continue to charge. I woke up and noticed when I was ready to put them in the morning that one of my aids was not charged and yet when I put it in the charger it went on but then shuts off after a short while so unless you open up the cover and check once in a while you have no idea if it's charging properly or not. I would think the charger and the aids would continue to blink until it's completely charged but it doesn't. Is this proper? Is this correct?
Excellent customer care. Love this product!
Going well, took some fiddling around to get the charger working properly. I haven't yet had an opportunity to try them in noisy social setting such as restaurants etc. Mainly they make sounds more clear - i had been diagnosed as a borderline case for hearing amplification so wasnt expecting a trult dramatic result
Great very pleasant and comfortable
I get some feedback using the phone. There are echos sometimes in rooms with little furniture. I get what I will call pressure soreness from the hard case of the inner ear buds. I had to change to the smallest ear adapters, but this did not eleviate the feeling of pressure nor the soreness I have after they are taken out.
I can hear people talking to me when they are using their normal voices. The used to have to speak up. I've only had one instance of feedback. Two ladies were screeching at each other at an event. They were standing behind me. They were so loud that I had to remove my "ears". Other than that, I haven't had any problems. Still getting used to them.
Going great! Couldn’t be any happier. Thank you!
Just phone feed back.
So far I'm very pleased with my Eargo hearing aids. I truly hope long term they stay thus way... Its my only concern.
Overall I pleased with Eargo however I am having problems with the charger.
It’s going really well- tiok a few days to get used to them!
I have never worn hearing aids before- I really love them!
Great. I am using the smallest “fluffies.” and will need some more. Can you provide me some more. I will pay for them.
So far so good. I'm getting feedback more than my old hearing aids, but these are way more comfortable to wear. And invisible too. Sometimes, when there's a lot going on, talking, radio on, background noise, TV, etc, it's hard to tune into the voices. I'm assuming it will get better as my brain adjust to the new sounds.
