Widex Moment Receives Android Streaming Upgrade
Hauppauge NY — Hearing aid pioneer and innovator Widex USA Inc. announced that wearers of the company’s breakthrough Widex MOMENT family of hearing aids can now stream music, calls, and other content seamlessly from Android smartphones thanks to an upgrade to its Widex MOMENT App.
With the Widex MOMENT App, version 1.4, Widex MOMENT hearing aids now support Google’s Android Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) standard, allowing Widex MOMENT hearing aids to function like traditional Bluetooth headsets and earbuds. ASHA streaming is handled using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to preserve both smartphone and hearing aid battery power—a critical feature for patients who rely on their hearing aids throughout the day but still want to be able to stream.
Widex MOMENT hearing aids also support the ability to stream from Apple iOS devices through integration of Apple’s wireless MFi technology, and from other hardware devices through available DEX accessories. This latest update, combined with Widex MOMENT’s already fast processing time and impressive sound quality, gives wearers greater convenience and a pure, natural sound experience as they go about their day.
“Supporting ASHA in our award-winning Widex MOMENT product line is a game-changer,” said Nancy Bridges, Product Manager for Widex. “Now, our hearing care professional partners can offer their patients a more natural-sounding hearing aid while simultaneously delivering to them the convenience of direct-streaming from ASHA-compatible Android smartphones. This combination of natural sound and seamless streaming will further enhance patient use and enjoyment of Widex MOMENT hearing aids.”
To enjoy ASHA compatibility, a patient’s Android smartphone must be running Android 11 or later and Bluetooth 5.0. All new Widex MOMENT connected hearing aids will come with ASHA compatibility. Current Widex MOMENT hearing aid wearers can enjoy ASHA streaming through an upgrade to the Widex MOMENT App version 1.4, now available in the Google Play app store, or through the Widex Compass GPS fitting software.
Among current Widex MOMENT hearing aids branded ‘Ready for Direct Android Streaming’ are the BTE 13 D, RIC 312 D, and mRIC R D. Among popular Android smartphones supporting ASHA streaming are the Google Pixel 5, 4a, 4 , 4 XL, 3, 3 XL, 3a, and 3a XL; the Samsung Galaxy S21, S20, S10e, and S10; and the OnePlus 8 Pro, 8, 7T, and 7 Pro.

I have widex moment latest upgrade with the mRIC aids. I have the TV play set-up, a samsung S7+ tablet and samsung A12 phone. The upgrade is a most welcome addition, however I am experiencing lots of problems with various operations. I have listed the issues below,
1. TV play often will only connect to the left earpiece, sometimes it will connect to the RH after 15 or twenty minutes . As I am typing now, the app is reporting that the RH has 0% charge, which is incorrect. I have just charged them overnight and the settings in the tablet are reporting them as fully charged. So there is an issue with app connecting to the RH earpiece. I have re paired on multiple occasions and it sometimes rectifies the problem.
2. If I am streaming from the tablet and the TV is running, TV play will turn on. There is no simple way of selecting the streaming to dominate over TV play. On the app it will flash to a screen which shows a streaming icon, but this is not accessible to the user.
3. When TVplay is running I cannot use my tablet without the sound from the TV being cut out for 4-5secs when I do any operation on the tablet in another app. The samsung is a very powerful tablet and is capable of running the sound and many other operations.
4. If I have been using my tablet and I get phone call the streaming from the phone does not work. I can not have them both paired at the same time.
The connections are wonderful individually, but a lot of work needs to be done on the software. I have experience dating back to the 70's with computer programming and this seems to me to be poor and inadequate software design.
